Spring returns, a beginning to this year's yard/garden
After all the stresses of late, and the cold gray weather we've had, it is good to once more get out and get started on things that have been on hold since last year.
When I went home for my friends funeral several months ago, a family member gave me a sort of birdhouse/yard ornament that had been given to HIM (his wife really, she's a realtor) and had been laying in the brush behind their garage, in sad shape.
Today I finally got around to trying to refurbish it a little, which was a chore, it seems to be made primarily of something like Balsam wood, so everytime I tried to add a tack or drive one in a little better, something else started coming loose.
So I sanded and sprayed the tops and black parts black, I'll do the red later
Yesterday I went to purchase some "Pumapunku" blocks (my word for them) so I could utilize these 2x12 boards from the deck I dismantled last year to make raised beds for my veggies this year
Then after all that painting etc this morning, I began with the tilling.
My plan is to backfill with woodchips I have left in my yard for mulch, then put some black garden mesh, then begin filling with a mix of the soil I've removed, peat moss and garden soil.
It is gonna be a horrendous amount or work, and I will have to carry buckets of water over there to it (there will most likely be a second one as well)
On the other side of that fence, there is a stand of small pines and scrub bushes, the pines would have shaded these plants in the morning, so since I am pretty sure that is actually my property anyway, I went and culled some of it away from the fence
All ↑THAT↑ will go to the burn pile, the trunks etc I shall use to let vines (cucumbers, squash, beans etc) climb up on
As of this moment, this is how far I've walked today
having not eaten today, I decided to fix me some vittles.
So here, R>L is a Ribeye steak (the egg is there to break the chill from the fridge, prior to me boiling it) then poTATE-oes getting ready to boil for tater salad, (onions over there chopped waiting)
I made a green garden salad, and cut just the outer rind off the meat for tonight's supper
So there you have it!
