WE103: They are fortunate

Lucky life

Have you ever counted yourself as lucky? Write about a time or event in your life in which you felt luck or happenstance played a part in bringing an advantageous result. What was the situation and result and why do you see luck as instrumental in it?

Joseph spent hours connected to an endless number of online games, he was too introverted a young man to be able to make friends of his age in real life.
That's why he preferred to ask his parents for a high-end gamer computer and a kingston A400 solid state drive for speed as a birthday present, his room was the technological universe of entertainment.
Of course his parents thought it was wonderful for their 15 year old son to entertain himself with such things, so they could get on with living their own life, where there wasn't much room for Joseph.

His neighbors could not explain how a middle-class family could have so much purchasing power. Every day they saw how the Sánchez bought not only gifts for their son's entertainment, but also endless material possessions for themselves.
The expansion of the house was also the gossip of the week in the whole neighborhood, where the majority began to suspect where the money for so much exaggerated luxury came from, they could not believe they were so lucky.

One night Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez decided to go to a party, and told their son that they would be back the next day, which for Jose meant one more night of games and junk food, in other words, extreme happiness for him.
He said goodbye to his parents and began to prepare his medieval adventure, one of the famous online games that he never missed, along with the fan club that his alter ego had in the virtual world.

Something that made him immensely happy, since in real life the boys of his age only hit him and made him the target of their mockery. While women never paid any attention to his romantic pretensions, for them he was just a big loser.

He was at this when he looked at the camera monitor next to him, supposedly his parents decided to place several of these in different parts of the house, to warn if a burglar wanted to enter.
The strange thing was that the sensors were activated but there was no one on the street, it was a neighborhood of older people. Only Joseph's parents, who were good at partying, were arriving late at night.
He didn't pay much attention and went on with his games, while gobbling chips, accompanied by a couple of sodas.

A few minutes passed when someone knocked on his door desperately, he could see that it was Lidia, a young woman who has been interested in him since they were children. But he has never been attracted to her nerd-like physical appearance.
He immediately went to answer the door, especially since he didn't understand what she was doing on the street at one o'clock in the morning.
Lidia, almost on the verge of a nervous breakdown, entered the house, quickly closed the door and grabbed Joseph by the hand, dragging him into the living room.
He followed her, asked her to calm down and to try to explain what was happening.

A stranger entered Lidia's house, which was next door to Joseph's, while her parents were with relatives.
The two teenagers had no adults to turn to and could only call the police, but when they did, all the lights went out. It was more than obvious that the stranger was trying to sneak into the house as well.
They felt the glass of the window overlooking the street shatter violently, the two boys ran to take refuge in the second floor bedroom. Once inside, they do not know what to do and only manage to place the desk at the door so that the stranger cannot easily enter.

The man begins to kick violently at the small wooden door, while the young people embraced and prayed for something good to happen and save them from dying at the mercy of that maniac.
The door opens wide, and a flash of light falls into the eyes of the young men, both see a dark figure that does not allow them to differentiate his face or his limbs.
The pounding of the hearts of both Jose and Lidia in that silent night only foreshadowed the worst, as the stranger slowly approached them. Both remain in the darkness awaiting their horrible end, suddenly they hear the voices of their parents shouting their names and when they open their eyes the light was on again. Although there is no trace of the being that was about to kill them.

When the police arrived, one of the detectives told them that this had been happening in several houses in the city and that the perpetrator always did it when the parents were not present, and even showed them a photograph from a security camera, where the strange man could be seen as if he did not even have a face or one of his arms.
Of course, the only difference with the other cases was that in none of them the teenagers were not seriously injured.
The detective told them that they were two young people who should consider themselves very fortunate, especially because of their friendship, because if it had not been for Lidia calling her parents before leaving home, perhaps they would not be talking about it now.
From that day on Joseph completely forgot about his obsession with games and forged a beautiful friendship with Lidia, who knows if later on with the years it will turn into something more...

The image used is that of a man who was hanging around near the houses in my neighborhood, my brother saw him with the camera and said that neither his face nor one of his arms could be distinguished. Also that he had appeared out of nowhere, I guess that's why I came up with this write up, he looks like Slenderman. 😣
