My kitty has lost her fangs

Rubia, the grandmother of the home is very weak, and with 13 years of age her body is not as strong as it was yesterday.
About two months ago she began to change her behavior, she didn't want to be in the places that most of the time she used to rest during the day. Rather, he looked for hiding places away from me and my family, where he spent most of the time.

On one of those outings, she disappeared and although we tried everything we could to find her, she was nowhere to be found.
When my strength had completely faded, after asking all over the neighborhood for her whereabouts and pasting posters in the streets, just as she had left, she appeared again out of nowhere.
I never knew what had happened to her, but now I think it was due to an illness that was beginning to show its effects.

I took her to the clinic and the vet told me she had a problem in her mouth, a periodontal disease, added to the Calicivirus she already has.
The diagnosis, "receding gums" was causing extreme pain in her oral cavity, causing her to stop eating and drinking water.
This picture is of Rubia, when she was still eating normally and was still active.

In these days she has lost a lot of weight and looks very weak, her hair has lost its beauty.
The vet told me that she had to be stabilized to be able to do a surgery called "Exodontia", which consisted in removing her two lower fangs. Something quite difficult in an animal of 2.4 kilos, and with old age, but I opted for that solution, since she could not even feed herself.
A cat cannot go any day without eating, it affects their organism too much, unlike other animals.

The pictures below shows the moment after he came out of the extraction of his fangs and how he gradually woke up from the anesthesia.

It's been 6 days and he still hasn't recovered, it's a titanic task to try to get him to eat, because he doesn't like medication. So he thinks that I am the evil one who wants to hurt him, I have to resort to other people to try to give him food, but I do not see any improvement :(

What is receding gums

This means that the gums weaken and begin to contract, as if they were losing volume. Thus, the root of the tooth, or in the case of Rubia's fangs, becomes quite exposed to decay or infection.
Periodontal disease also causes bone loss, which is very painful.

Symptoms that Rubia had
  • He stopped eating the normal portion of food, giving way to a smaller one.
  • She stopped drinking water for long periods during the day, which caused her body to become dehydrated.
  • Her gums were swollen and when she tried to open her mouth, she felt discomfort.

This is a picture of a cat with its four fangs, in a normal position, they look quite strong.

If you're wondering what those black spots are, it's called lentigo and it's a benign skin disorder, like moles. Most cats with blonde fur have them.
I couldn't open Rubia's mouth too much, as she is still in pain, but you can make out her upper fangs, while the lower ones were removed.

Unfortunately, there are times when many cats do not recover and have to have all their teeth removed. This is traumatic for a strict carnivorous animal like a cat.
I hope this will not be the case, only time will tell...

Our cat also had this disease, unfortunately it is almost common among older cats. I hope she gets well soon, our cat lived happy for years after the teeth removal.
