[ENG- ESP] Ladies of Hive Contest #81 / My favorite vegetables
Well this is my entry for Ladies of Hive Community Contest #81.
I want to invite to participate @alejandralita, a friend I met recently in another social network and she's a little lost in Hive 😜
1️⃣ If you plan to grow a vegetable garden, what is your favorite vegetable to grow and what dishes do you use if for? Feel free to include a special recipe using that vegetable!
I am a woman who loves plants and I have always wanted to have my own vegetable garden, most of the times I have planted vegetables I have always opted for tomatoes or Italian squash.
Unfortunately I have had bad luck with other vegetables, such as caigua. I saved some seeds from it, which I put out to dry.
A few weeks went by and I created seedlings, only one of which thrived.
I consider the caigua bush to be beautiful, I was very sad when the only one that was growing was filled with aphids and caterpillars ☹️.
Then I went back to collecting tomato seeds and at present I have a bush growing day by day.
On the other hand, the last Italian squash seeds I planted ended up being snail food. A few months ago I uploaded a post on Hive where I saved a snail and put it on my squash plant.
It was a total mistake on my part, but I don't mind anyway, I'll plant others.
My favorite recipe with Tomato and Italian Squash.
All right ladies of hive, here I want to share with you my favorite recipe. Although it is quite simple I love to eat it.
Ingredients
- Tomatoes
- Italian squash
- oil, onion and garlic
- oregano, cumin and basil
- salt
- Tomates
- Calabaza italiana
- aceite, cebolla y ajo
- orégano, comino y albahaca
- sal
Place half of the tomatoes in hot water for a couple of minutes. This is to make the sauce, so it is only part of the tomatoes in the recipe.
Thanks to the hot water the tomato peel will come off easily and you place it in the pan along with the finely chopped onion, a little oil, garlic, basil, salt and seasoning.
Once ready, set aside.
Cut the Italian squash and the rest of the tomato in slices. As shown in the picture and place in a microwave safe dish.
Remember the sauce we made, pour it on top of these vegetables.
Here I put it in the microwave for 30 minutes, high power. Obviously it can also be done in the oven, but I found it easier in the microwave.
And that's it, I love the taste of these vegetables. It's kind of like Ratatouille, but my way. I served it with some fries 😋
Ah... I will try this!
It looks very easy and healthy!

Oh yum! A bit of melted cheese on that would be lovely too!
Sounds tasty and looks beautiful too! We have slugs (basically snails without shells) here that can mow down just about any plant you put out! It's maddening! Fortunately, there is slug bait (safe for vegetable gardens) and a host of other homemade remedies for those slug babies! I know just how you feel!
Thanks for sharing and have a lovely week!

Your tomato dish is something I'd like to try one day. But oh, I gave away my microwave, lol! But perhaps I can do it in the oven?
I giggled a bit with how you lose your Italian squash by saving a snail. Sorry about that but just like you said, you can plant again.
😅 yes, most of the time I lose my plants to save animals.
You are so kind to them :)
In my family, only I like tomatoes. The only time my kids like tomatoes is as a sauce on pizza and ketchup. Every year I have at least a potted tomato plant just to grow for fun. And snails are an annual problem when they invade my veggie garden.
