(ESP-ENG) Un caos acuático en São Paulo!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Interlagos, always Interlagos, giving us something to talk about during a weekend that was a real nightmare and hell for drivers, fans and, why not, for the organizers and stewards of Formula 1. And there is so much but so much that happened that it is difficult to start with something. I think that first of all what must be said is that Max Verstappen is definitely the best driver, and by far, of all the 20 that make up the current grid and what we saw him do yesterday was an absolute barbarity. Last week I said that Sainz had done a masterclass in Mexico but the Dutchman's performance in Brazil is ten steps higher, running like that and in the rain nobody is able to do it nowadays.
It all started with a sprint race which Norris won, Piastri second and Leclerc third. This augured that McLaren could really get in tune for the world championship, Norris taking those 8 points and Verstappen only 5 could be the beginning of a comeback. Then came the pole position, one that has been one of the most eventful that I can remember starting because it could not be done on Saturday due to the weather and was run for yesterday at 7 am. This meant a lot of risks because if a car was damaged it was going to be complicated that in less than 3-4 hours it would be fixed, as indeed happened with Albon. The prediction continued to be that Lando would take the pole, with Russell and Tsunoda in third.
This Q3 had a particularity and that is that it could not be finished thanks to a red flag which meant that many could not finish the last lap including the two Red Bull, Ferrari, etc.. Verstappen finished 12th plus a sprint penalty of 5 places would end up placing him in seventeenth place. Let's see, Norris starting P1 and Max P17, ideal scenario, isn't it. For races like yesterday's we realize that unfortunately Lando Norris still has a long way to go to fight for a championship, he has the car to do it but mistakes and inattentions buried him. I say this because once again he lost the lead at the start of the race in just the first corner to Russell; a scenario that has been repeated a lot during the season and that has affected the young Briton.
And what was Verstappen's response then? - Well, in the first lap he advanced about 7-8 positions and quickly got P10-P9. The race itself was quite good because of the game that gives the rain, with those conditions we can see drivers stand out that normally do not, for example yesterday the race of Esteban Ocon, Gasly and Tsunoda was spectacular. Alpine's feat of putting their drivers on the podium was unheard of. But for this to happen many things happened during the award, beyond good driving, also chance or luck, whatever you want to call it, influenced a little. A VSC and then a red flag for me was what defined the race.
Hulkenberg was the cause of this incident. The thing is that just before that the drivers who were leading, namely Russell, Norris had entered the pits to change tires; a couple of laps later the red flag would arrive. This made those who had not entered the pits to change their tires and thus equalize the conditions without losing the time of the stops, among them was Verstappen. Formula 1 is like that, unpredictable and with a touch of fortune for some. From here on there was nothing more to do. Ocon was leading, Max second and Gasly third. That quickly changed and Verstappen took the lead and escaped. Record after record of laps was enlarging the advantage to the point that ended with a difference of almost 20 seconds with respect to Ocon and more than 30 with Norris.
To start from 17th and end up winning the way Max did was crushing and as the race commentators said “a moral blow” for Norris. You can't fight for a championship being so lukewarm and making so many mistakes; yes, he is very fast and has the car for great things but Max's expertise is greater. Driving under those conditions was very complicated, the track was very dangerous and he still took 20 seconds. I think the championship is defined and closed even though there are 3 awards left, 62 points of advantage is a lot. And on the other hand, Alpine took 35 points just with yesterday's race. This is important because in the end it can mean a few million more in the team's budget.
Próxima carrera en 3 semanas, en Las Vegas, premio donde de manera oficial pudiera ser Max Verstappen bicampeón del mundo.
Next race in 3 weeks, in Las Vegas, where Max Verstappen could officially become two-time world champion.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
