(ESP-ENG) El fin de una novela. [Opinión]
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
The most anticipated and commented news, the one that was generating more expectation within Formula 1 since a few months ago, has finally come to an end. For some it will be great news, for others it will be a reason for sadness and disappointment, but the reality is that the road within the maximum competition for the Mexican Sergio Perez has come to an end. The season just ended was particularly hard for Checo, at the beginning it seemed that it could be a pretty good one for him but suddenly something happened and his performance was not the same. Some people still claim today that it was “sabotage” by Red Bull but I am one of those who think that it was the pressure that ate his mind.
How is it possible for a pilot of this experience to fall into these potholes? - Well, that's what it is to be human. Checo spent 14 seasons in F1, the last 4 of them with RB, if one looks at the Mexican's numbers with the Austrian brand in detail, quite honestly, they could have been a little better. 5 race wins, 29 podiums and only 3 pole positions. This does not dictate his quality as a driver, for me Perez is one of the best overtakers, if the term applies, that I have seen in F1, the best version of him we see when he starts from the back and begins to climb positions. And another virtue of his is how well he manages tires, not everyone knows how to do it, that has its science and he manages it without problems.
It was very clear that the heavyweights did not want Checo in the team, if you are a person who follows Formula 1 and you are aware of the statements and press conferences you know that for quite some time Helmut Marko and Horner himself had their eye on him, hinting their disagreement with Perez's performance. It is true and as I already said that his performance was terrible this season but I think that with another vision and more drive they could have made him another mental setup so that he would not fall into the pit in which he ended up. If you as a driver feel constantly judged and realize that you have a target on your back, it is very likely that the pressure will end up eating you, as indeed it did.
I think it was a combination of several things that led Checo out of RB. Being Verstappen's teammate is not easy either, it is to be under the constant shadow of a multiple world champion who is too competitive to the point that between them there was more than one altercation and exchange of words for various incidents on track. It is said that Red Bull is a team that loves to “burn” the second drivers, such as Albon, Ricciardo, Gasly, etc. And if we see the whole forest and not a single tree, there may be somewhat similar patterns. Whether RB underestimated or made a mistake with Checo Perez only time will tell. In the meantime, a new youngster joins a great team and Liam Lawson will be Max's new teammate for next season.
The dilemma now is, why Lawson and not Tsunoda? - Only RB will know. I think the New Zealander is a slightly better driver than the Japanese, the issue here is his temperament which may clash with Max's on more than one occasion. No doubt it will be very interesting to see this pair understand each other and I would think that from above they will have instructed the young driver to slow down a bit and not be as reactive as we have seen in this final part of the season. For now Racing Bulls has yet to name Lawson's replacement, which could be Isack Hadjar, at least he is the favorite and the one who is sounding the most.
Well friends that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
A hug to all, see you next time!

Saludos amigo!
