(ESP-ENG) Lioness [Season 2] | More politics, less drama - Serie Review!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Zoe Saldaña is one of the most mainstream actresses lately appearing in a few nominated films and of course being the lead here. This series I would venture to say is one that is going way under the radar as it is not on the big streaming platforms despite how amazing it is and the top cast it manages. Today we will talk about its second season, one that as I said came with a more political touch and touching more war themes and geopolitics itself but leaving a little behind certain dramas and interpersonal relationships; that is, it is much less deep.
For those of you who have no idea what this series is about, I'll quickly explain it to you. It's about an elite group of secret agents managed by the CIA who are in charge of those operations that nobody wants to do but are very necessary, the dirty work as they sometimes call it. The particularity is that it is run mostly by women. Joe (Zoe Saldaña) is the leader of this group and in charge of recruiting the Lioness to infiltrate the targets that are considered threats in order to carry out the missions more effectively. In the first season that Lioness was Cruz (Laysla De Oliveira) and now in this second season is Josefina Carrillo (Genesis Rodriguez).
This second part of the series focuses on threats a little more “domestic” and is that in the first had to do with terrorists in the Middle East, now focus on Mexican cartels and border management. It is here where Josefina comes into action, she will be the key piece in this new mission that has no other purpose than to kill the leader of the organization. There is something that the series continues to maintain and it is that deep struggle that these agents surely have in their lives when choosing their personal life and family over the duty they have with their country. This is something that Joe suffers in his own flesh because he seems to be the one who sacrifices the most.
On that side the drama may increase a bit or be maintained as it follows the line of the initial season hence the ups and downs of Joe with her husband and daughters. But in general terms I feel that the series enters a much more action-packed phase and not so much of interpersonal relationships that was a bit the previous tone. We will see much more combat and ground operations, more incursions both military and civilian and of course the touch that can not miss, all the political aspect behind the decisions that are made, the blessed bureaucracy. I think that what we see here may be a reflection of the current reality of the world, although these threats are quite cliché, they still have certain nods to foreign policy.
The series is spectacular, the plot is put together to make it impossible to lose the pace and not get bored; in addition to the good action scenes it has because that is its strong point, all the sequences of explosions, deployments of agents, vehicles, helicopters, snipers and shooting must be said that the diplomatic part is very top, for some strange reason all this hypnotizes because one imagines that this can be in real life, I would believe that behind the fiction there must be some truth behind the fiction. The intensity never drops and in the most tense moments and where the action may slow down, the atmosphere is always in expectation. Personally I enjoyed it a lot.
As for the characters, everyone's work is spectacular. Zoe is impeccable, she is an extremely complete actress who is able to deliver action and drama equally and do it at the height. I also liked Genesis Rodriguez, I had never seen her in these roles and what she shows is fine, it is true that she was more the cornerstone in the whole plot but still little to say. And well Laysla is not surprising either, in the first season she impressed me, here her character is more mature so the security in her scenes are much better. Remember that this cast also includes Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Kelly, all of them big name actors.
I easily give it an 8/10, the two seasons are very different and that makes the series not monotonous. It has it all, action, drama, good performances and good exteriors. Highly recommended. I leave the trailer here.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
The moment I saw Zoe, I just knew it would be a brilliant movie and I’m definitely going to check it out soon. You giving it 8/10 is even enough reason for me to dig in.
Zoe is very good at what she does, she is synonymous with quality. If you are a fan of her I recommend her, she is very good.
se ve buena, está interesante la historia!
