(ESP-ENG) Fin de semana explosivo // Explosive weekend!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
The World Cup in Qatar does not stop and this weekend we lived a couple of days that really had a sea of emotions because a couple of matches were played that were among the most anticipated of this first round of teams. On the one hand, Argentina was looking for redemption against a Mexican team that wanted to secure its place in the round of 16 and send Messi and company home early on. It was a game that, beyond the spectacle we saw on the field, had an extra ingredient: the fans. The atmosphere in the stands was one of the best we have seen in the World Cup, so that aspect did not disappoint either.
And if this match was the Latin American clash, on the other side we had the European clash of two of the greatest powers of soccer, a Germany that like Argentina had suffered an unexpected setback and that the most optimistic could not have predicted against possibly along with France, one of the teams that have displayed the best soccer so far, Luis Enrique's La Roja. It must be said that this match was one of the best we have seen in this initial phase because it was the clash of two totally different styles of play and because the players on the pitch were some of the best in the world today. In general terms, we had a pretty good weekend, with France, Belgium, Poland, the surprising Arabia, etc. playing in addition.
Germany was playing for its life against a Spain that massacred an opponent that was never on the field but in the end ended up beating the team that defeated the Teutons, Costa Rica beat Japan in one of those paradoxes of soccer. The match was as expected, tight and disputed, the Spaniards logically did not have the freedom they saw against the Ticos and the Germans opted for physical play and the incursion through the wings, hence Raum and Musiala were among the best of the afternoon. Luis Enrique's team had the ball but that did not mean danger for a defense that was solid led by Rudiger's tank, in fact the only one in the first half was a shot by Dani Olmos that Neuer saved in a masterful way.
In the second half, everything changed and both teams pressed a little more in their need to score. Morata, the most questioned striker that Spain has ever had, scored the goal that put Germany out of the first round for the second consecutive World Cup. But the four-time champions did not give up and attacked with everything they had, made changes that served them very differently from Spain, which from then on diminished its quality. Such was the siege that the equalizing goal came relatively quickly and from that moment on Germany understood that a draw was good for them considering that their last rival is Costa Rica and that with a win against them they would qualify. Underestimating a rival is not a good idea, just tell that to Argentina against Saudi Arabia.
The titans of our continent were facing each other again in a World Cup and passions ran high on Saturday evening. Argentina had only one way to go, to win, but in front of them was a Mexican team that intended to make life difficult for the Albiceleste. A first half to forget, that's how I remember it, no chances, no clear play, a very weak 45 minutes from both sides and the truth was not understood given the need that existed. Mexico was waiting, laying back as if they were winning 3-0, Tata's team was anything but offensive, a team that has not hit the goal more than three times so far in the World Cup and that is regrettable, as I have already said, I have not seen anything from this Mexico.
But Argentina is not far behind, that team that overwhelmed in the Americas Cups and in the qualifiers is not being seen, Scaloni came out with five changes with respect to the match against Arabia and this tells us that the team is not very clear. How did they win? - Because Messi's goal and Enzo Fernandez's goal were extraordinary. It seems that this is the only way Argentina can win because it is not by collective and associated play. If it had not been for those two goals it would have been just another ordinary match, two great teams that have not shown anything interesting in this World Cup, so far...
If there is a team that has been a total disappointment is without any doubt Belgium. Many people put them as favorites and honestly I don't understand why. Yes, they have very big names in a squad that is very powerful but that doesn't make them work as a team. I call them the "eternal surprise" because they never surprise and if it wasn't for Cuortois this team would have scored a few goals. Against Morocco it was a match where effectiveness reigned because there were chances from both sides but it was the Africans who knew how to take advantage of them, they had more shots on goal than Belgium itself and that is saying a lot.
Yes, they beat Canada but the Americans played profoundly better than them in almost the entire match, they had one and they did, but against Morocco they could not lose, it was unacceptable for that to happen. I don't know if it is because of the lack of a natural striker, Lukaku is coming off an injury and little by little he has been coming back or because the playmaking part is quite null but there is something that has failed in the two games and Harzard, well, he has not looked as good as he promised, although he is not playing in Madrid as he would like he is called to be the reference of this team and the truth is nothing further from the truth. Sad the panorama for the Belgians that if they do not get a good result against Croatia, who humiliated Canada in terms of goals, will be another one that will go home early.
In other lines France beat Denmark 2-1 with a recital of Mbappé, the soccer that the current world champions are showing is very good and effective despite the great casualties they have suffered. And Poland won a tough match against Arabia who undoubtedly did not deserve to lose but as we have already said, this sport is not about deserving, it is about who scores the goals. The Arabs had great chances to score, they played and moved the ball better and in general they stood very well on the field, it is one of those teams that have pleasantly surprised me, it is very difficult for them to get messed up, hence the difficulty to beat them. But against the Polish forwards, including Lewandowski, who made his debut in the World Cup, everything is very complicated. We will see how they fare against Argentina and Mexico respectively.

Saludos amigo!
