No se si a algunos les sonará el nombre de este hombre pero es una de las personas más importantes y relevantes del mundo del cine y de la musica que da vida a ese arte. Zimmer es un compositor de bandas sonoras, de hecho el número de películas en las que ha trabajo son incontables. Films como Gladiator, Interstellar, Misión Imposible, El Rey León, Piratas del Caribe, Pearl Harbor, hasta Kung Fu Panda y un largo etcétera. La cosa es que muy seguramente no les suene nada de esto pero cuando escuchen algunas de sus obras estoy seguro que harán el click y entenderán lo top que ha sido y que es el trabajo de este hombre. Así es que hoy les voy a mostrar unos pequeños ejemplos de lo que son unas verdaderos soundtracks.

I don't know if the name of this man is familiar to some of you, but he is one of the most important and relevant people in the world of cinema and the music that gives life to that art. Zimmer is a composer of soundtracks, in fact the number of films in which he has worked are countless. Films like Gladiator, Interstellar, Mission Impossible, The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pearl Harbor, even Kung Fu Panda and a long etcetera. The thing is that most probably none of this sounds familiar to you, but when you listen to some of his works I'm sure you will click and understand how great this man's work has been and still is. So today I'm going to show you some small examples of what are real soundtracks.

- Now We Are Free - Gladiator

Para mi de las mejores películas de la historia con mejor banda sonora es Gladiador sin ningún tipo de dudas. Lo que impone escuchar estas pieza pocos soundtracks lo consiguen. También es importante conocer el trasfondo y contexto del film pero ya les digo que cuando la vi esta persona que está escribiendo lloró con la escenas en donde se hace presente esta obra maestra. Si se preguntan en qué idioma está interpretada esta canción pues la respuesta es que en ninguno; la artista utiliza palabras inventadas que fueron surgiendo en forma de improvisación al momento que la melodía iba emergiendo. La voz es de una chica australiana llamada Lisa Gerrard, de hecho no es el único tema que interpreta ya que a lo largo del film también tiene participación suya. Creo que lo que la hace tan épica y extraordinaria es lo que genera al escucharla, en lo personal es una nostalgia con cierta paz. No se si será la mejor de Zimmer pero bien arriba si está.

For me, one of the best movies in history with the best soundtrack is Gladiator without any doubt. What imposes to listen to this piece few soundtracks get it. It is also important to know the background and context of the film but I tell you that when I saw it this person who is writing cried with the scenes where this masterpiece is present. If you are wondering in what language this song is interpreted, the answer is that it is in none; the artist uses invented words that were emerging in the form of improvisation as the melody was emerging. I think what makes it so epic and extraordinary is what it generates when listening to it, personally it is a nostalgia with a certain peace. I don't know if it will be Zimmer's best but it's a good one.

- Day One - Interstellar

Interstellar es de las películas con más canciones dentro de su banda sonora general, tiene aproximadamente 30 canciones en su haber, una mejor que la otra. Este film tiene un par que son míticas pero yo creo que "Day One" es la más reconocida por la gente junto con "No Time for Caution". Pasa lo mismo que con Gladiador y bueno, en realidad con todas las canciones de él, las cargas emocionales que transmiten. Al ser temas netamente instrumentales, con sus excepciones, son percibidas de otra forma, creo que llegan más fácil porque es simplemente dejarse llevar y ya está, suena muy cursi pero es la mejor forma de explicarlo. Pero más allá de lo intangible también hay que ver la complejidad que hay detrás de la creación de cada tema, la capacidad que tiene ese señor para sentarse y comenzar a escribir algo desde cero y que sea tan trascendental.

Interstellar is one of the films with more songs in its overall soundtrack, it has approximately 30 songs to its credit, one better than the other. This film has a couple that are mythical but I think that “Day One” is the most recognized by people along with “No Time for Caution”. The same thing happens with Gladiator and well, actually with all his songs, the emotional charges they transmit. Being purely instrumental songs, with their exceptions, they are perceived in a different way, I think they come easier because it's simply to let yourself go and that's it, it sounds very corny but that's the best way to explain it. But beyond the intangible, you also have to see the complexity behind the creation of each song, the capacity that this man has to sit down and start writing something from scratch that is so transcendental.

- Remember Who You Are - The Lion King

Podemos estar de acuerdo con que El Rey León es quizás de las películas más tristes y emotivas que ha hecho Disney nunca. Zimmer ganó Oscars, Grammys y Golden Globes por lo hecho en este film. Creo que la más mítica es el "Circle of Life" la cual es mundialmente reconocida por todos pero me quise quedar con esta por la importancia que tiene a nivel de la historia y la carga sentimental que tiene. El tema acá no es solo componer las canciones sino darle forma a toda la banda sonora para que termine siendo lo que es, muchas veces se puede confundir el hecho de que Hans Zimmer es compositor si, también es músico instrumentista (guitarra y piano) pero a la vez es saber tener la capacidad de lo dicho anteriormente, tener la capacidad de armar un compilado de temas en armonía. La verdad es que hacer una reseña de este maestro en donde solo se toquen tan poco temas es difícil porque la cantidad de material que tiene es infinito pero creo que estas escogencias las hice con base en meros gustos personales.

We can agree that The Lion King is perhaps one of the saddest and most emotional films Disney has ever made. Zimmer won Oscars, Grammys and Golden Globes for what he did in this film. I think the most mythical is the “Circle of Life” which is recognized worldwide by everyone but I wanted to keep this one because of its importance to the story and the sentimental charge it has. The issue here is not only to compose the songs but to shape the whole soundtrack so that it ends up being what it is, many times it can be confused the fact that Hans Zimmer is a composer, yes, he is also an instrumentalist musician (guitar and piano) but at the same time he is able to have the ability of what I said before, to have the ability to put together a compilation of songs in harmony. The truth is that to make a review of this master in which only a few themes are played is difficult because the amount of material he has is infinite but I believe that I made these choices based on mere personal tastes.

- Drink Up Me Hearties Yo Ho - Pirates of the Caribbean [Bonus]

Esta película está al nivel de Interestelar en cuanto a grandes temas que tiene. Esta es quizás de las mejores piezas de Zimmer en su repertorio. Estoy seguro que la conoce pero se las dejo porque si estamos hablando de este maestro no puede faltar algo de Piratas del Caribe.

This film is on par with Interstellar in terms of great themes it has. This is perhaps one of Zimmer's best pieces in his repertoire. I'm sure you know it but I leave them because if we are talking about this master you can't miss something from Pirates of the Caribbean.
