One of the very interesting things that anime sometimes gives us are the adaptations of other works that have nothing to do with this world as we can also see completely original stories but that are supported with historical characters of different nature. This movie is a bit of a combination of this, it is based on two things: the video game of the same name and Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, but at the same time it is not exactly the same as the book, it has its changes. When I heard about the existence of this film, it caught my attention because this story is already a bit macabre and graphic, so being taken to anime could be something very cool to see and enjoy.

Una de las cosas bien interesantes que a veces nos regala el anime son las adaptaciones de otras obras que nada tienen que ver con este mundo como también podemos ver historias totalmente originales pero que se apoyan con personajes históricos de distintas naturaleza. Esta película es un poco la combinación de esto que les comento, se basa dos cosas: el videojuego del mismo nombre y en la obra de Dante Alighieri de la Divina Comedia pero al mismo tiempo no es exactamente igual al libro, tiene sus cambios. Cuando me enteré de la existencia de este film me llamó muchísimo la atención ya que de por si esta historia es un tanto macabra y gráfica por lo que ser llevada al anime podría ser algo muy cool de ver y disfrutar.

The story focuses on the same as the play. We have Dante who descended to hell in order to save the soul of his beloved Beatrice. Dante is a knight of the crusades, a man of God who sought to recover Jerusalem and the Christian religion on those sides of the world. For the church, anyone who did not profess religion was a pagan and was captured and killed. I say this because on that path Dante commits many sins, without being conscious, in the name of faith and that will take their toll on him once he is in hell. A hell that has 9 levels and that he will have to reach the last of them to face Lucifer himself.

La historia se centra en lo mismo que la obra. Tenemos a Dante quien descendió al infierno para poder salvar el alma de su querida Beatriz. Dante es un caballero de las cruzadas, un hombre de Dios que lo que buscaba era recuperar Jerusalén y la religión cristiana de aquellos lados del mundo. Para la iglesia todo aquel que no profesara la religión era un pagano por lo que eran capturados y asesinados. Digo esto porque en ese camino Dante comete muchos pecados, sin el ser consciente, en nombre de la fe y que le pasarán factura una vez estando en el infierno. Un infierno que tiene 9 niveles y que tendrá que llegar al último de ellos para hacerle frente al mismo Lucifer.

For those who do not remember the 9 levels are: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Swindle and Treachery. In each of them Dante will face demons and evil forces that are associated with the sin in question. Of the most representative is greed, there are all those who were not able to separate themselves from the material and are now suffering and being tortured by large amounts of gold, in fact there he will meet a character from his past. Personally I enjoyed the movie a lot, the only thing I can criticize is that I would have liked to see a little more depth in certain parts of the plot or in the same important action scenes, it is nothing serious but it is something that is noticeable, we see everything a bit rushed.

Para los que no recuerden los 9 niveles son: El limbo, lujuria, gula, codicia, ira, herejía, violencia, estafa y traición. En cada uno de ellos Dante se enfrentará a demonios y fuerzas malignas que están asociados al pecado en cuestión. De los más representativos es la codicia, ahí están todos los que no fueron capaces de separarse de lo material y ahora están sufriendo y siendo torturados por grandes cantidades de oro, de hecho ahí él se encontrará con un personaje de su pasado. Personalmente disfruté mucho la película, lo único que le puedo criticar es que me hubiese gustado ver un poco más de profundidad en ciertas partes de la trama o en las mismas escenas de acción importantes, no es nada grave pero si es algo que se nota, vemos todo un tanto apresurado.

At the beginning I said that the original work is somewhat graphic, we see this also in the film. There is a lot of gore, there is inevitably violence, blood; the essence of this story, visually, is this. I'm always going to support this because it makes things more eye-catching, but here it is extremely necessary because of the whole context of the story. I thought the animation was pretty good, those fight scenes and the details in them are well done, very fluid, it's a little dark in terms of light but I think it's because of the nature of the plot. And above all the design of the characters, I like that as they descend they change physically. It is very enjoyable to watch.

Al principio dije que la obra original es un tanto gráfica, esto lo vemos también en la película. Hay mucho gore, hay inevitablemente violencia, sangre; la esencia de esta historia, visualmente, es esto. Siempre voy a aupar esto porque le da más vistosidad a las cosas pero es que acá es sumamente necesario por todo el contexto de la historia. La animación me pareció bastante buena, esas escenas de peleas y los detalles que hay en ellas están bien logrados, muy fluida, es un tanto oscura en cuanto a la luz pero creo que es por la misma naturaleza de la trama. Y sobretodo el diseño de los personajes, me gusta que a medida que descienden van cambiando físicamente. Se disfruta mucho verla.

The plot is not boring because it is not heavy, being a film of about an hour and 20 minutes, it goes by quickly. There is always something going on, if it is not a fight it is flashbacks that will help us understand Dante's past and how it was not as perfect as he thought; hence why he is in the situation he is in. It is a thoughtful story, it shows us that it is never too late to regret what you do, that no one ever goes without paying and that our actions can have repercussions either directly or indirectly on others, in this case the one who suffers is poor Beatrice in Dante's name. Obviously the book is much more powerful but the movie is not a complete mess.

La trama no aburre porque no se hace pesada, al ser una película de una hora 20 minutos aproximadamente se pasa rápido. Siempre está pasando algo, si no es una pelea son flashbacks que nos ayudarán a entender el pasado de Dante y de cómo aquel no fue tan perfecto como él creía; de ahí el porqué está en la situación en la que se encuentra. Es una historia reflexiva, nos muestra que nunca es tarde para arrepentirse de lo que uno hace, que nadie nunca se va sin pagar y que nuestras acciones pueden tener repercusión ya sea directa o indirectamente en los demás, en este caso la que sufre es la pobre Beatriz en el nombre de Dante. Obviamente el libro es mucho más poderoso pero la película no es un completo desastre.

The characters as such we have Dante. A guy that blind faith led him to commit many sins and crimes and now thanks to an unbreakable will he will have to correct all that. In the end he is a man full of suffering and guilt. Beatriz is the woman in trouble but her disappointment leads her to walk a path of doubt in the sense that she may be influenced a little by Lucifer himself. In the end, evil seeks out the “weakest”. In conclusion it is a film to pass the time, this story will always be very interesting and for those who do not know it, this is perfect.

Los personajes como tal pues tenemos a Dante. Un tipo que la fe ciega lo llevó a cometer muchos pecados y crímenes y que ahora gracias a una voluntad inquebrantable tendrá que corregir todo eso. Al final es un hombre lleno de sufrimiento y culpa. Beatriz es la mujer en apuros pero que su decepción la llevan a transitar un camino duda en el sentido de que puede que se deja influenciar un poco por el mismo Lucifer. Al final la maldad busca a los más "débiles". En conclusión es un film para pasar el rato, esta historia siempre será muy interesante y para aquellos que no la conozcan pues esto es perfecto.

Gore, blood, action, decent animation and a story of forgiveness and redemption; the usual fight of good against evil. Recommended also for the story references, there are quite a few and I find that very cool, many biblical and mythological characters are named here. Here is the trailer.

Any work related to the divine comedy is sure to be good. I find it interesting that everything related to the 9 hells is condensed in a 1 hour 20 movie, it means that there is no room for boredom.

It is really short and in fact I feel it lacked a little more development but overall it is well approached. It's what you say, honestly you don't get bored, from minute 1 things are already happening.

I like that you mention the gore and violence, as it is part of the essence of the story. Sometimes adaptations can be a bit rushed, but it seems like this one manages to capture the attention. thanks for the recommendation!

It is well worth watching, for how short it is, they explain things very well and the context of things. If you like the story I recommend it, plus the animation is very good.

I usually don't like anime and even less at my age but after reading your review I was very curious because I see that it is an adaptation of The Divine Comedy, a book that I read a long time ago and that has great literary depth, I would like See if this anime captures that essence. It is not exactly the same as the book but it has the essence. The levels of hell it keeps them which is cool, the characters and the plot. It lacked a little bit of depth but it's not serious either.

If you liked the book or read it, the movie might appeal to you.
