As we had already mentioned in the last publication, we know that next year will be a very busy one as far as sport is concerned, so we started talking a little about the first impressions of what would be the Euro Cup to be held in Germany after the draw for the groups had been made. Well, this time it is the turn of the longest tournament in the world, the great Copa America to be played in the United States, as a consequence of the fact that last night an eventful draw was carried out to determine the four groups that will face each other.

The reigning champion of America is Argentina, consecrated when it won that memorable final in the Maracana against Brazil by 1-0, being that the first title of Lionel Messi with the senior national team. Being the Cup of the American continent, it is not only made up of teams from Conmebol but also from Concacaf, opening the debate about which confederation has a higher level, is better, etc.; I think that this discussion is quite clear where it ends up but it is something that always happens and adds an extra color to the competition. This year there will be five representatives from the northern zone of our continent: Mexico, United States, Panama, Jamaica and the fifth place is between (Costa Rica, Honduras, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago).

These are the four groups that will compete for the remorphed cup. Group A has Argentina and it is already known that they will be the top of the group, the question is to guess who will be the second, considering that Chile and Peru are in a pretty bad shape and that Canada and Trinidad and Tobago are a bit of an unknown quantity. Let's see, after the World Cup with the North Americans we can say that they have a good team but functionally they still lack a little to be more convincing; I do not know about our Trinidadian neighbors. By the way, among the three Conmebol teams the rivalry is great, Chile-Peru historically have their own things, even outside the sport as such, and Argentina-Chile also have a certain rivalry. I think this group will be a great spectacle, it will give something to talk about, that is for sure, but in the end I am going to opt for Chile just because of names. Peru is at the bottom of the standings, something drastic would have to happen to improve the way they are going.

Group B for me is the most even of the four, it is where I see that the teams are somewhat on the same level. Jamaica is the unknown but looking at their last results and what they did in the Gold Cup, watch out for them, they were tied for first place with the United States in their group. In their last match they beat Canada, which puts them in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Nations League. These teams will always be a surprise, for better or worse, never trust them. Mexico is supposed to be the giant of this confederation, to me they have never convinced me much, although it is true that they are always on everyone's ballot I think they always leave something to be desired.

What to say about Ecuador and La Vinotinto that has not already been said, what more references than the last qualifying match we had here in November where the Ecuadorians' way of playing was evident, always being physical and uncomfortable. Honestly it is going to be a very complicated group to predict but I would dare to say that the two representatives of the Concacaf will be left out, it will be hard to get them out but I believe that Venezuela is capable of beating Mexico without problems, moreover, I think that against Jamaica it is likely that we will be a little more complicated than we should be because they are so physical. The level is there, the players, too, the project is going well, hopefully this is the Cup where we can perform better and surpass that fourth place in 2011.

Group C is easier to analyze, Uruguay has no reason to have doubts about their progress, they are at a much higher level than the rest, Bielsa has been able to readjust a team that was going through a complicated moment. The second place will be between Panama and USA because I feel that Bolivia will not be able to advance, their performance is not the best either. It must also be said that since it is a short tournament, surprises can happen and we can see teams come out of nowhere since they use these tournaments to give their all. The Charrúas and the United States will qualify, I have few doubts about that despite the possible surprises.

And finally group D, another group that could possibly take the position of the most evenly matched. I feel that Colombia can take the leadership of this group without problems, the current situation of the Colombians is very good, they have a great team with great names and above all they are developing a high level of soccer, solid in third place with 12 points I think our neighbors are ample favorites to take this edition of the Copa America. Brazil on the other hand is the antithesis of Colombia, a team that does not want to raise its head, sixth in the table of the qualifiers but worst of all is that playing terrible, when I see a game of them the truth is that I do not know what they are playing. Paraguay I think they have the least to lose, they have already changed their coach, from here to there we will see if the waters turn in their favor. Honduras or Costa Rica, whoever it is, will have a hard time because even a wounded Brazil is very dangerous.

I predict a good Cup where we will see great matches, duels that will bring tails and possibly the Back to Back of Argentina, it is very likely that this will happen. I am confident in the Vinotinto, I am not going to say that we are going to win the tournament but I do believe and hope that we can have a good performance given all the context and what has happened this year with the national team.
