Lamb - What are you willing to accept to get what you want?

Movies that don't need a lot of dialogue are very rare, and it is even rarer that many people like it, silence is something that few people can stand, and they stand it much less when watching a movie, and even less when the movie little by little removes our reality allowing unimaginable things to penetrate our mind making it impossible for us to see the world in the same way as before, and it is something wonderful that only a movie achieves so much.

I have seen Lamb twice and I think I will see it a third time soon, the film completely creates an unusual environment, a safe place for me where being out of the norm is the norm, and although monotony reigns, it is a chaotic monotony for anyone watching from the outside as they do not understand the calm, the normality with which we take into account what we are experiencing, which for anyone else would be something unthinkable.

Lamb will place us in a sheep farm near the remote mountains of Iceland, where Maria and Ingvar are going to be living, immersed in that depressive and suffocating monotony that is ending their lives, at least until during the births of the sheep they find a special baby that they begin to take care of, in their home, as if it were a baby of their own.

Las películas que no necesitan de muchos diálogos son muy raras, y es más raro aún que a mucha gente le gusta, el silencio es algo que pocas personas soportan, y lo soportan mucho menos al ver una película, y menos cuando la película poco a poco va descociendo nuestra realidad permitiendo que cosas inimaginables penetren en nuestra mente haciendo imposible que veamos el mundo de la misma forma que antes, y es algo maravilloso que solo una película logre tanto.

He visto Lamb dos veces y creo que pronto la veré una tercera, la película por completo crea un ambiente inusual, un lugar seguro para mí donde estar fuera de la norma es lo común y aunque la monotonía reine, es una monotonía caótica para cualquier persona que la vea desde el exterior pues no entiende la calma, la normalidad con la que tomamos en cuenta lo que estamos experimentando, que para cualquier otro sería algo impensable.

Lamb nos situará en una granja de ovejas cerca de las remotas montadas de Iceland, donde Maria e Ingvar van a estar viviendo, inmersos en esa depresiva y asfixiante monotonía que está acabando con sus vidas, al menos hasta que durante los partos de las ovejas encuentran a un bebé especial que comienzan a cuidar ellos, en su casa, como si fuera un bebé propio.

The perfect calmness with which this movie is made still affects me and can make me cry if I think about it too much, besides the soundtrack is perfectly done, disturbing until it makes your whole body itch and then puts you in an absolute trance where you think you are going to fall asleep at any moment, but it is not, it is just the mental preparation needed to absorb what you are seeing and not run away afraid of what is on the screen.

This movie tells more than one story, the beginning is just one of them because we are already in the middle of a different story and we don't know it. Maria and Ingvar are suffering their relationship, they are still together because of the habit, because of the work, because of how difficult it is to start from scratch in solitude and in a different place, they are still together with the hope that everything will get better, without knowing if that wish will be fulfilled or not, without knowing if things will change or if things will remain the same until one of them dies bringing a change to their lives.

The film is going to be divided into three acts, three different stories, or better said, three different parts of a story, or three different stories that come together to tell us something new that would not be possible without them, my favorite parts are the first and the third, the beginning and the end, the beginning of something mediocre and regrettable that becomes extraordinary, and the transcendence of the extraordinary to ambrosia made from the dust of the stars of the universe.

The second part is not in my favorites, I love it anyway, but it is the strangest of all in terms of the message it is communicating to us, it is not even the calm before the storm, it seems to be a storm, but it is not like that either, it is more like the clear sky that in the blink of an eye is filled with black clouds without you being able to notice, you don't know whether to run or wait for the rain and die from the impact of lightning; and after writing this I question my mind because I love it, just like the other two parts, but I don't know why it's not in my favorites.

La calma perfecta con la que está hecha esta película me sigue afectando y me puede hacer llorar si pienso demasiado en ello, además de que el soundtrack está perfectamente hecho, inquietante hasta hacer que te pique todo el cuerpo y después te coloca en un trance absoluto donde piensas que te vas a dormir en cualquier momento, pero no es así, es tan solo la preparación mental necesaria para poder absorber lo que estás viendo y no salir corriendo con miedo de lo que está en la pantalla.

Esta película cuenta más de una historia, el comienzo es tan solo una de ella, pues ya estamos a la mitad de una historia diferente y no lo sabemos. Maria e Ingvar están sufriendo su relación, siguen juntos por la costumbre, por el trabajo, por lo difícil que es comenzar de cero en soledad y en un lugar diferente, siguen juntos con la esperanza de que todo mejore, sin saber si ese deseo se va a cumplir o no, sin saber si las cosas van a cambiar o si las cosas seguirán iguales hasta que alguno de los dos muera trayendo un cambio a sus vidas.

La película va a estar dividida en tres actos, tres historias diferentes, o mejor dicho, tres partes diferentes de una historia, o tres historias diferentes que se unen para contarnos algo nuevo que no sería posible sin ellas, mis partes favoritas son la primera y la tercera, el inicio y el final, el comienzo de algo mediocre y lamentable que se convierte en extraordinario, y la trascendencia de lo extraordinario a ambrosía hecha del polvo de las estrellas del universo.

La segunda parte no está en mis favoritas, la amo de todas formas, pero es que es la más rara de todas en cuanto al mensaje que nos está comunicando, no es ni siquiera la calma antes de la tormenta, parece ser una tormenta, pero tampoco es así, es más como el cielo claro que en un parpadeo se llena de nubes negras sin que uno se pueda dar cuenta, no se sabe si correr o esperar a la lluvia y morir por el impacto de un rayo; y después de escribir esto cuestiono mi mente porque la amo, igual que a las otras dos partes, pero no sé por qué no está en mis favoritas.

It's totally unnecessary and irrelevant, but personally, I would have liked to know more about Ingvar's brother who arrives in the second part of the movie, who were the ones who left him over there, why did they do it, what addiction he has that makes him lose and/or owe so much money, among many other things.

Pétur is what you could say, the representative of the world in this movie, he is the insertion of someone 'normal' in that 'abnormal' situation that tries to impose order and reason in something that he was never asked for an opinion, that is, Pétur is someone who puts himself where he was not called, and when he wants to change things and sees that he will never achieve it, he ends up accepting it, or else he would pay the consequences of an unjustified insistence. I love that about this movie.

Es totalmente innecesario e irrelevante, pero personalmente me hubiera gustado saber másd el hermani de Ingvar que llega en la segunda parte de la película, ¿quiénes eran los que lo dejaron por allá? ¿por qué lo hicieron? ¿qué adicción tiene que lo hace perder oy/o deber tanto dinero?, entre muchas otras cosas.

Es totalmente innecesario e irrelevante, lo sé, pero igual quisiera saber más de él, soy una persona que ama y le encantan las cosas con un exceso de información y descripciones de todo, pero en esta película es algo que no iba a encajar bien de ninguna forma, pues él, a pesar de ser importante en todo lo que está sucediendo, no es primordial en la historia, es un papel que podría haber sido sustituído por cualquier otra cosa y se lograría tener el mismo efecto.

Pétur es lo que se podría decir, el representante del mundo en esta película, es la inserción de alguien ‘normal’ en esa situación ‘anormal’ que intenta imponer orden y razón en algo que nunca se le pidió opinión, es decir, Pétur es alguien que se mete donde no lo llamaron, y cuando quiere cambiar las cosas y ve que nunca lo va a lograr, termina aceptándolo, o si no, pagaría las consecuencias de una insistencia injustificada. Amo eso de esta película.

Many times people say that they would be able to do anything to fulfill a dream, or anything they want to fulfill, the truth, no matter how small or big we think it is, but for that person, it is something of life or death, and in many cases, it is literal, even if we think otherwise; many of the things they sometimes have in front of them come to question the morals of the person, the belief systems they have and the sense of right and wrong, and with a simple yes or no we get a glimpse of what that person is made of.

That happens in this film, but at a higher level, it is the ability of the human being to adapt, to accept that things are happening one way and not another, that this way is the only way to get what you want, that no matter what the world says you cling to that new reality and will fight to the death to protect what you got in an unexpected way.

This film can be analyzed from many points of view, but I will not do it or I never finish, the line between the subjective and the objective here is almost nonexistent, because although what we are shown is something that would terrify almost the entire population, it can be extrapolated to other situations in which in a very far-fetched way can come to feel identified and understand the reason for everything that happens, the reason for their actions and what they feel, the motivation behind each step on that stormy road.

A24 has become one of my favorite film producers, reviewing the list of all the movies they have, easily 20 of my favorites are under their name, and it makes me want to watch them all again. Here is the trailer, and it expresses perfectly what this movie is all about, it made me want to watch it more than I already did.

Muchas veces las personas dicen que serían capaz de hacer lo que sea para cumplir con algún sueño, o con cualquier cosa que quisieran cumplir, la verdad, por más pequeño o grande que creamos que sea, pero para esa persona es algo de vida o muerte, y en muchos casos es literal, aunque pensemos lo contrario; muchas de las cosas que a veces tienen frente a sí llegan a poner en duda la moral de la persona, los sistemas de creencias que se tienen y el sentido del bien y el mal, y con un simple sí o no llegamos a vislumbrar de qué está hecha esa persona.

Eso sucede en esta película, pero a un nivel mayor, es la habilidad que tiene el ser humano de adaptarse, de aceptar que las cosas están sucediendo de una forma y no de otra, de que esa forma es la única en la que se puede conseguir lo que se quiere, de que sin importar lo que diga el mundo uno se aferra a esa nueva realidad y se peleará hasta la muerte por proteger lo que se consiguió de manera inesperada.

Esta película se puede analizar desde muchísimos puntos de vista, pero no lo haré o no termino nunca, la linea entre lo subjetivo y lo objetivo aquí es casi inexistente, porque aunque lo que nos muestran es algo que aterrorizaría a casi toda la población, se puede extrapolar a otras situaciones en las que de una forma muy rebuscada puedan llegar a sentirse identificados y entender el por qué de todo lo que sucede, el por qué de sus acciones y de lo que sienten, de la motivación detrás de cada paso en ese camino tormentoso.

A24 se ha convertido en una de mis productoras favoritas de cine, revisando la lista de todas las películas que tienen, facilmente 20 de mis favoritas están bajo su nombre, y me provoca volver a verlas todas. Ahí les dejo el trailer, y expresa a la perfección lo que es esta película, me hizo querer verla más de lo que ya quería hacerlo.
