Cowboy Bebop | Look how they massacred my boy

I just need my giant pink coffee cup full to sip it while I write this review destroying something that could have been wonderful because they had the idea, they captured very well what Cowboy Bebop is, its essence, the soul it transmits, but with the passing of the chapters, it was deformed little by little until it became unrecognizable. This review is going to be full of spoilers, both from the anime and the live-action, so read it at your own discretion.

The synopsis is the same as the anime, Cowboy Bebop follows the adventures of Spike Spiegel and Jet Black, two bounty hunters who are traveling around the universe looking for criminals to turn them into the police, and although sometimes they succeed, things do not go as planned and the reward ends up being less than they expected, along the way they are joined by Faye Valentine, they also get Ein, and Ed is conspicuous by his absence...

This leads me to say the following, I used Ein's individual poster as the cover because it's the least she deserves after what they do to her in the series, I mean, who the fuck came up with the idea that Faye would suggest they abandon Ein in the middle of nowhere, on a planet they don't know, just because someone transmitted a message through her eyes? I hated that, Ein deserved better, and the treatment he received was unheard of, I hated it, I had endured the series and I had liked certain things even though they had changed them completely, but the moment I saw Ein alone in an empty port in the middle of the night watching the ship leave my heart broke and that's when all empathy with the series ended. Ein is a little ball of love that didn't deserve that, I'm almost glad it was canceled, almost...

Solo me falta mi taza gigante rosada de café llena para tomarla a sorbos mientras escribo esta reseña destruyendo algo que pudo haber sido maravilloso, porque tenían la idea, captaron muy bien lo que es Cowboy Bebop, su esencia, el alma que transmite, pero con el pasar de los capítulos se fue deformando poco a poco hasta que quedó irreconocible. Esta reseña va a estar llena de spoilers, tanto del anime como del live action, así que leanla bajo su propia discreción.

La sinopsis es igual que la del anime, Cowboy Bebop sigue las aventuras de Spike Spiegel y Jet Black, dos cazarrecompensas que van viajando por todo el universo buscando criminales para entregarlos a la policia, y aunque a veces lo logran, las cosas no salen como lo planean y la recompensa termina siendo menos de lo que esperaban, en el transcurso se les une Faye Valentine, también consiguen a Ein, y Ed brilla por su ausencia...

Lo que me lleva a decir lo siguiente, usé el poster individual de Ein como portada porque es lo mínimo que se merece después de lo que le hacen en la serie, o sea, ¿a quién carajos se le ocurrió que ha Faye se le ocurriría sugerir que abandonaran a Ein en medio de la nada, en planeta que no conocen, solo porque alguien transmitió un mensaje a través de sus ojos? Odié eso, Ein merecía algo mejor, y el trato que recibió fue inaudito, lo odié, había soportado la serie y ciertas cosas me habían gustado a pesar de que las habían cambiado por completo, pero en el momento que vi a Ein solito en un puerto vacío en medio de la noche observando como la nave se iba se me partió el corazón y ahí acabó toda empatía con la serie. Ein es una bolita de amor que no merecía eso, casi me alegro de que la hayan cancelado, casi...

The first episode is the best of all, it is the one that best represents the anime completely, they kept the theatricality of the action scenes where half the world is killing each other, Spike being Spike, Jet being Jet, and the criminals being the best criminals they could face, I remember that first episode and if only they had kept them like that, no matter how much they changed the story, maybe it would have had a better reception from the audience, or if only they had changed the story and not the characters... It's just that they ruined the series on so many sides.

One of the strong points of the series is that they focused more on the lives of the characters, more on Spike's, but that doesn't matter, he's the main character, so ñe. In this series, you don't have to wait for 3 or 4 episodes to go by to keep learning about the background of each character's life, and in a way, it's weird, though nice anyway, but this is not a good thing, because even though Faye's story is one of the most faithfully portrayed, Jet's is the most destroyed of them all, and Spike's is something we never saw in the anime.

Starting because they killed Vicious, Spike's nemesis, brother of his past life, first love of his love, that is, Vicious sole no more than a dozen times in the 26 chapters of the anime, and here he appears almost in every chapter, but that's not the worst, the worst is that they turned him into something horrible, Vicious was a synonym of elegance, calm, coldness, of a calculating mind impossible to beat, in this series they turned him into an unstable, impulsive person, lover of senseless violence. ... it was horrible to see everything they did with Vicious, the truth.

El primer episodio es el mejor de todos, es el que mejor representa al anime por completo, mantuvieron la teatralidad de las escenas de acción donde medio mundo se está matando, Spike siendo Spike, Jet siendo Jet, y los criminales siendo los mejores criminales a los que ellos podían enfrentarse, recuerdo ese primer episodio y si tan solo los hubieran mantenido así, sin importar que hayan cambiado tanto la historia, quizás hubiera tenido una mejor recepción por parte del público, o si tan solo hubieran cambiado la historia y no a los personajes... Es que arruinaron la serie por muchos lados.

Uno de los puntos fuertes de la serie es que se enfocaron más en la vida de los personajes, más en la de Spike, pero eso no importa, es el protagonista, así que ñe. En esta serie no hay que esperar que pasen 3 o 4 capítulos para seguir enterándonos sobre el trasfondo de la vida de cada uno de ellos, y en cierta forma es raro, aunque agradable de todos modos, pero esto no es algo bueno, porque a pesar de que la historia de Faye es de las más fieles retratadas, la de Jet es la más destruida de todas, y la de Spike es algo que jamás vimos en el anime.

Comenzando porque asesinaron a Vicious, el némesis de Spike, hermano de su vida pasada, primer amor de su amor, o sea, Vicious no sole más de una docena de veces en los 26 capítulos del anime, y aquí sale casi en todos los capítulos, pero eso no es lo peor, lo peor es que lo convirtieron en algo horrible, Vicious era un sinónimo de elegeancia, calma, frialdad, de una mente calculadora imposible de vencer, en esta serie lo volvieron una persona inestable, impulsiva, amante de la violencia sin sentido... fue horrible ver todo lo que hicieron con Vicious, la verdad.

Fuck, during the whole series I wanted to tell Jet to shut up, it was horrible, he didn't talk that much...

Besides, and I think it's the right time to touch that topic, Mustafa Shakir was not a good Jet, never, he did his best effort, but he didn't make it, of all the characters, he is the one who is the hardest to get used to because he doesn't even like him halfway, no, never, ever, he is horrible, he completely distorts the story, the dynamics of Cowboy Bebop, although as they changed the character too much he was the best bet to achieve it, and maybe the intention with him was always to turn him into someone disruptive, I don't know, I don't know...

If they had just stuck with Jet's original story, and not made him talk so much, maybe it would have worked, but it didn't, and that's a shame. Also, what happens at the end? FUCK. Jet would never have done something like that, Spike didn't deserve it, and all together we can come to the conclusion that Spike does deserve bad things for everything he did in the past, but not what Jet did to him, that was really bad.

De verdad no sé si esto sucedió en el anime, así que a la gente que también lo vio, por favor respondan esto, ¿Jet tenía exesposa, hija, y su mejor amigo y compañero de sus tiempos de la policia fue el que se casó con su exesposa? Porque no recuerdo haber visto nada de eso en el anime, jamás y nunca vi nada de eso, se inventaron esa historia completamente vacía y dañaron el personaje, además, ¡Jet no hablaba tanto! Joder, durante toda la serie quise mandar a callar a Jet, fue horrible, él no hablaba tanto...

Además, y creo que es el momento justo de tocar ese tema, Mustafa Shakir no fue un buen Jet, nunca, hizo su mejor esfuerzo, pero no lo logró, de todos los personajes, él es a quién más cuesta acostumbrarse, porque ni siquiera es que agrada a medio camino, no, nunca, jamás, es horrible, distorciona por completo la historia, la dinámica de Cowboy Bebop, aunque igual como cambiaron demasiado el personaje él fue la mejor apuesta para lograrlo, y quizás la intención con él siempre fue convertilo en alguien disruptivo, no sé, no sé...

Si se hubieran mantenido solo con la historia original de Jet, y no lo hubieran puesto a hablar tanto, quizás hubiera resultado, pero no fue así, y es una lástima. Además, ¿lo que sucede al final? JODER. Jet jamás hubiera hecho algo así, Spike no lo merecía, y eso que todes en conjunto podemos llegar a la conclusión de que Spike sí merece cosas malas por todo lo que hizo en el pasado, pero no lo que le hizo Jet, eso fue muy malo.

Unlike Vicious, they improved Julia's character to interstellar levels, so much so that they turned her into someone unrecognizable, here on second thought, they turned her into everything that Vicious should be and they didn't achieve, alas, poor Vicious, although I think everything they did with Julia is perfect, although in the anime they never showed the abuse and pressure she was subjected to, it can be understood that it was present.

Also, I found something completely ridiculous in how the love between Julia and Spike arose, it was too ridiculous everything, the total drama, it seemed like something out of Romeo and Juliet, that was one of the moments that made me laugh the most in the whole series, because one of the best things about the anime is that Spike's life is always a mystery, you show the final result, but you don't show how things came about, you don't show his beginnings, to say it in a way, and that in the series they show everything doesn't turn out well at all, it's horrible, they had a good intention, but they didn't achieve it.

There are two characters that I must mention because they made the series better, without them I don't know what would have happened, the truth, Ana and Gren, Ana, played by Tamara Tunie, who did very well, it was one of the best performances of the series; and Gren, played by Mason Alexander Park, a non-binary actor, and his character was the representation of all the diversity that in a way characterizes the anime, and his performance was also decent, standing out as a good secondary character. I liked him a lot.

Al contrario que con Vicious, mejoraron el personaje de Julia a niveles interestelares, tanto así que la convirtieron en alguien irreconocible, aquí pensándolo bien, la convirtieron a ella en todo lo que Vicious debía ser y no lograron, ay, pobre Vicious, aunque me parece perfecto todo lo que hicieron con Julia, si bien en el anime nunca mostraron el maltrato y la presión a la que ella estuvo sometida, puede llegar a entenderse que sí estuvo presente.

Además, me pareció algo completamente ridículo en cómo surgió el amor entre Julia y Spike, fue demasiado ridículo todo, el drama total, parecía algo sacado de Romeo y Julieta, eso fue uno de los momentos que más risa me dio en toda la serie, porque una de las mejores cosas del anime es que la vida de Spike siempre es un misterio, muesras el resultado final, pero no muestran como surgieron las cosas, no muestras sus inicios, por decirlo de una forma, y que en la serie muestren todo no resulta del todo bien, es horrible, tuvieron una buena intención, pero no lo lograron.

Hay dos personajes que debo mencionar porque hicieron mejor la serie, sin elles no sé qué hubiera sucedido, la verdad, Ana y Gren, Ana, interpretada por Tamara Tunie, que lo hizo muy bien, fue de las mejores actuaciones de la serie; y Gren, interpretade por Mason Alexander Park, un actore no binarie, y su personaje fue la representación de toda la diversidad que en cierta forma caracteriza al anime, y su actuación también fue decente, destacándose como un buen personaje secundarie. Me gustó mucho.

And I would have really liked to talk about the series without so much hate, but I just couldn't, it comes completely natural to me when talking about monstrosities of adaptations, and for that reason, I haven't seen Death Note.

There's the trailer! Because I have to stop writing or I'm going to backtrack and say that the series is bad, both as an adaptation and not. John Cho is the best Spike we can get, because he is, I loved him from the first to the last episode, Daniella Pineda is the best Faye we could get, because even though she doesn't fit the character well at first, then she improves considerably and we love her, even though what she did to Ein is godforgiven. Mustafa was the worst Jet we got and that's all I'm going to talk about. Watch the series, maybe you'll enjoy it, maybe you won't, though you're sure to be upset with Netflix with such a horrific adaptation.

Esto lo debí decir hace mucho, pero se me olvidó, y es que la serie puede llegar a disfrutarse si no ven el anime, o si ven el anime después de la serie, pero antes no, todos los cambios de la historia, los personajes, incluso el orden de aparición de los criminales cambiaron, y no solo eso, si no que los ridiculizaron, al menos en cierta forma, pues también cambiaron sus historias y los volvieron si no mediocres, completamente diferentes a lo que eran en realidad y eso es una falta de respeto que no se puede pasar por alto.

Ed... ¿por qué carajos decidieron poner a Ed en el final de temporada? O sea, sabiendo que tomaron algo perfecto y lo dañaron, que el publicó claramente no iba a recibir la serie con los brazos abiertos teniendo en cuenta todos los cambios que hicieron; imagino que pusieron a Ed al final para que estuviera presente durante la segunda temporada que nunca va a tener lugar pues ya la cancelaron, así que no entiendo, la verdad, y tampoco quiero entender. Y me hubiera gustado mucho hablar de la serie sin tanto odio, pero es que no podía, me sale completamente natural al hablar de monstruocidades de adaptaciones, y por esa razón es que no he visto Death Note.

¡Ahí tienen el trailer! Porque debo dejar de escribir o me voy a retractar y diré que la serie es mala, tanto como adaptación como si no lo fuera. John Cho es el mejor Spike que podemos obtener, porque lo es, me encantó desde el primer hasta el último capítulo, Daniella Pineda es la mejor Faye que pudimos obtener, porque aunque al principio no encaja bien en el personaje, después mejora considerablemente y la amamos, aunque lo que le hizo a Ein no tiene perdón de dios. Mustafa fue el peor Jet que nos dieron y de eso no voy a hablar más. Vean la serie, quizás la disfruten, quizás no, aunque de seguro se molestan con Netflix con tan horrorosa adaptación.
