1962 VW Beetle Project --- Part 2
The last couple weeks or so I’ve been slowly stripping paint off of the 3 fenders (one is new but will need a sanding) and sanding them down to bare metal so I can get the bad spots straightened out as well as I can. I’m not going to super crazy with this initial build as it will most likely get messed up again.
This paint stripper is probably great for most projects just this 60 year old paint wasn’t having it. The fenders being curved I had a hard time keeping it on.
These fenders had been worked on previously apparently so sanded down as much as I could.
A little more bondo action to get these things strait.
These fenders are about $250-300 new so these will have to do for now.
Getting down to bare metal is great and all but it rusts verrry quickly and it’s hard to see all the imperfections.
After a coat of primer I see I have more work to do.
Last week I had a mechanic friend come over and help me diagnose this motor.
Come to find out the ignition coil was bad.
This wiring job isn’t helping anything either but that’s for another day.
$45 later we have new coil installed and as you can see in the video below, IT’S ALIVE!!!
