Review Summer Time Rendering / La Isla de las Sombras [ENG/ESP]
Good morning to all anime lovers, this time I come to review this curious anime, and then we have to break it down to explain it.
The series in Spanish is called La isla de las sombras, alluding to a homologous series of film and literature, but in context let's see what it's about.
Muy Buenas a todos los amantes del anime, en esta ocasión vengo a reseñar este curioso anime, y pues hay que desmenuzarlo para explicarlo.
La serie en español se llama La isla de las sombras, haciendo alusión a una serie homologa de cine y literatura, pero en contexto veamos de que trata.
I'll be honest at first the cover is not at all attractive to the eye in the anime catalog, because it feels somewhat simple and generic, but despite that first filter, which is the cover, I gave the series a chance because I had nothing else to see on tv.
Sere honesto al principio la portada no es nada atractiva a la vista en el catalogo de anime, pues se siente algo simple y generica, pero pese a ese primer filtro, que es la portada, le di la oportunidad a la serie pues no tenia nada mas que ver en tv.
The context of this story is that our "protagonist" named Shimpei, must return to his home island for a funeral of his childhood friend, who was named Ushio Kofune, she died saving a little girl in the sea doing quote-unquote (lifeguarding on the beach when she noticed that the girl was drowning).
And from here on, a series of paranormal events will occur that will gradually wipe out the human population of the island.
El contexto de esta historia es que nuestro "protagonista" llamado Shimpei, debe volver a su isla natal por un funeral de su amiga de infancia, que se llamaba Ushio Kofune, que falleció al salvar a una pequeña niña en el mar haciendo entre comillas (de salvavidas en la playa al notar que la niña estaba ahogándose).
Y pues de aquí en adelante ocurrirán una serie de eventos paranormales que poco a poco estará arrasando con la población de humanos de esa isla.
To put it in comparative planes the author of the series captured the urban fear of the (doppelganger), which in normal lexicon is when an evil entity usurps your identity as a clone of someone ... and to stay in this plane, it kills the original (ie the human) to stay in this world.
And yes, this initial mechanic that takes the series makes you enjoy it glued to the seat in the first chapters, because these entities (the doppelgangers or shadows), are malevolent and will kill their original in explicitly violent ways at the first attempt.
The general plot of this anime is that a great part of the population is already (shadows) and little by little they eliminate entire families to replace them and continue killing more and more people.
Para ponerlo en planos comparativos el autor de la serie plasmo el temor urbano de los (doppelganger), que en léxico normal es cuando una entidad maligna usurpa tu identidad como un clon de alguien...y para mantenerse en este plano, pues este mata al original (osea al humano) para quedarse en este mundo.
Y si, esta mecánica inicial que toma la serie hace que la disfrutes pegado al asiento en los primeros capítulos, pues estas entidades (los doppelganger o sombras), son malévolos y mataran a su original de formas explicitamente violentas al primer intento.
La trama general de este anime es que gran parte de la población ya son (sombras) y poco a poco eliminan familias enteras para reemplazarlas y seguir matando mas y mas gente.
Inevitably on a specific date of a festival where a lot of people gather, the doppelganger enemy horde kills the villagers left and right and summons a god of darkness with this ritual of accumulated souls, which in itself has enough power to consume the world with its cloak of darkness and annihilate the world's population.
Inevitablemente en una fecha especifica de un festival donde se reúne mucha gente, esta la orda de enemigos doppelganger matan a diestra y siniestra a los aldeanos y convocan por asi decirse a un dios de las tinieblas con ese ritual de almas acumuladas, que de por si tiene el poder suficiente para consumir el mundo con su manto de oscuridad y aniquilar a la población mundial.
So basically it's a doomsday equivalent to Thanos snapping his fingers of avengers annihilating humans. That is the context of what our protagonist must suffer in this series in a span of 3 days.
Osea básicamente es un día del juicio final con chasquido de Thanos de vengadores aniquilando humanos. Eso es el contexto de lo nuestro protagonista debe sufrir en esta serie en un lapso de 3 días.
The series presents us with a mixture of something already seen in other series like Re-Zero, where the hero dies many times and must repeat the cycle to try to save the situation (not just any silly situation, literally an end of the world), but what gives it that aspect of vulnerability, is that our protagonist has no magic, no super strength, or anything generic of fantasy series, that is literally a normal human vs. satan.
That's how simple you can define the scale of critical level to which the plot subjects the protagonist.
Pues la serie nos plantea una mezcla de algo ya visto en otras series como Re-Zero, donde el héroe muere muchas veces y debe repetir el ciclo para intentar salvar la situación. (Añado no cualquier tontería de situación, osea literalmente un fin del mundo), Pero lo que le da ese aspecto de vulnerabilidad, es que nuestro protagonista no tiene ni magia, ni super fuerza, ni nada genérico de series de fantasía, osea literalmente un humano normal vs satanás.
Así de simple se puede definir la escala de nivel critico a lo que te somete la trama al protagonista.

Otro elemento de estres es que el chico cada vez que muere no vuelve al punto de inicio a la hora que quiera, es decir, si al pisar la isla eran las 7 A.M, cuando revivas y sufras el efecto dejavu "de retroceder en el tiempo", pero empezaras el dia a las 7:20 AM.
Haciendo que "esa diferencia de tiempo" haga que no pueda salvar a todos, pues cada vez que vuelve perdera tiempo antes del final del evento que son 3 dias, llegando a un punto en que no puede evitar los acontecimientos sobre escritos.
Cosa que me parece bastante original y no dar el efecto viajero del tiempo con el Delorean y los circuitos del tiempo calibrados a conveniencia, XD.

El primero de ellos es esta chica llamada Mio Kofune, osea literalmente es la hermana menor de la chica que van a enterrar y pues no tiene el mas mínimo sentido que traten de ponerla como (quiero enamorar al ex novio de mi hermana aprovechando que viene a su funeral), osea, no hay ni pies ni cabeza en poner una sub trama amorosa cuando de por si ella debe estar destrozada por el funeral de su propia hermana, asi que en ese aspecto se siente super forzado un personaje asi en un momento dramático.

Don't misunderstand me, at the beginning she is a character that one doesn't know if she works for the villain and gives that effect of mystery, but then she is simply exposed as the heroine of the series, so it is something forced because even the same protagonist named Shimpei, knows that he will not be able to revive his original dead friend and he must accept that this copy helps him.
La propia sombra doppelganger de la chica muerta Ushio Kofune.
Y si, hay que ser claro al respecto, la chica original murio al comienzo de la serie, asi que por mas que traten de suavizarnos que ella es una copia benévola que ayudara a los protagonistas pues crees que es la real, sinceramente jamas explicaron el porque ella (es un error de la matrix que esta fuera del dominio del ser superior que es Jaime, el lider de las sombras).
No me mal entiendan, al comienzo es un personaje que uno no sabe si trabaja para el villano y da ese efecto de misterio, pero luego simplemente nos la exponen como la heroina porque si de la serie, asi que es algo forzado pues hasta el mismo protagonista llamado Shimpei, sabe que no podra revivir a su amiga muerta original y pues debe aceptar que esta copia lo ayude.

Este personaje lamentablemente arruino la serie, me explico, al comienzo ella parece ser una especie de (hombres de negro) enviados por el gobierno para reportar la actividad paranormal, y saber cuantas personas de la isla ya han sido suplantadas por doppelgangers, pero luego de 3 Doritos despues, la cosa es mas imposible de digerir que lo que imaginamos.
Añado: esta fémina es el brazo derecho en cuanto a musculo para enfrentar y eliminar a los seres paranormales, pero siendo totalmente honesto deteste este personaje.

Osea, si lo ponemos en planos de Harry poter, es como si en plena trama, la (autora del libro) se creyera un fanboy en su propia serie, inmiscuyéndose en la historia y robándose el protagonismo de su propia franquicia que es Harry potter.

Osea literalmente se siente un personaje tan pesado, pues porque al ser un extra, quito demasiado tiempo en pantalla a nuestros héroes principales, al punto que ella literalmente era el mesías para salvar la serie.
Osea detestable ver como esto pasa con un personaje así.
Puede que exagere, pero es como si el autor del manga creara un personaje con quien identificarse y lo metiera de apoyo en la serie y hasta (lo ponga en un pedestal por encima de los protagonistas), asi de indigerible es este personaje en pantalla.
Pues entrados los ultimos episodios es que por fin muere (sin que el heroe pueda volver en el tiempo y resicitarla otra vez, pues alcanzo el limite del horizonte de sucesos) y pues por fin luego de salir de ella se retoma el protagonismo de los héroes principales.
Asi que en planos de fastidio, claramente poner a un personaje que se cree escritor (o autor) en una serie ajena, tipo (Re-zero) da un mal sabor de boca.
P.S.: I'm sure the author is a fan of Mia Khalifa and I believe that cameo because of his obsession with her, but to be honest, this extra character stole a lot of the limelight to the point of making him unbearable.
Posdata: de seguro el autor es fan de Mia khalifa y le creo ese cameo por su obsesión con ella, pero siendo honestos este personaje extra robo mucho protagonismo al punto de hacerlo insoportable.

Pero en planos generales pese a esos 3 dilemas mencionados, las dos hermanas y esta justiciera que se autopersibe como autora, la serie llena bastante a niveles de intriga y entretenimiento.
Aclaro que hay partes donde uno siente que debieron acortar la serie, es decir, hay episodios entre el 9 y el 12 que se sienten alargados intencionalmente para llegar al limite de los 24 que aprobaron como presupuesto para animar.
Osea no es que exista relleno, ya que mencionan el origen del ente demoníaco, pero siento que si exageraron en esa aspecto para alargar la trama un poco.

Posdata: el final es algo complicado y raro de explicar, Ya que pudieron hacer como Jumangi, retornar a una época donde ellos eran jóvenes y el protagonista no hubiese aun partido de la isla a estudiar de cocinero a la ciudad, es decir, que su doppelganger con el poder del final retornara en el tiempo y salvara a su versión de ella original, dejandoles vivir con la conciencia de todo lo que ocurrio en ese punto de sus versiones mas jovenes en la playa.
Pero reiniciar la serie desde la entrada a la isla donde desembarca el héroe por primera vez para hacerlo pasar de nuevo por ese infierno "de detener el despertar de ese dios oscuro (con todas sus memorias y sus muertes con spoiler)", la verdad deja la serie anclada en un circulo vicioso sin final como un infierno de Dante.
If you want to watch the series, I recommend watching it all at once in marathon mode, so you can be aware of all its tangled plot, without having to rewatch it from the beginning to pick up the episode where you are.
No siendo mas, pues si te animas a ver la serie recomiendo verla de golpe en modo maraton y pues asi podras estar al tanto de toda su enmarañada trama, sin recurrir a volverla a verla desde el inicio para retomar el episodio donde estas.

The anime sounds quite interesting; I like that it features explicit deaths. The time loop reminds me of one in Doctor Who, where they also had time taken away. It seems like something different from the usual, though it's unfortunate about the characters that don't fit the story.
I'll make a note of it, although the fact that it has 24 episodes doesn't appeal to me much.

The series complies to entertain with its plot, in fact to defeat that demon is in itself a very high achievement since the same villain (he realized that the hero traveled back in time and marked him in a vision to also pursue him back (and be at par with the facts).
Making what the hero perceived as a predictable effect (groundhog day) change radically when the villain also traveled back in time with his consciousness (to his past body) and thus modified the events making the plot very unpredictable.
In that aspect the series gives that plot twist factor when there are 2 time travelers, each one looking for a personal goal, (Stop the annihilation of humanity), or to fulfill their goal of eradicating the world.
Ok, I went to see the trailer after reading your review and I must say that it ended up convincing me, I also saw Re-Zero, but I think this is different because of the kind of plots and sub-plots it has. The doppelganger concept is interesting as long as it's used in the right way and here it seems to be the case, although I also understand that we can see things a bit absurd.
It is striking that the protagonist is weak and has to deal repeatedly against these shadows, that gives a plus to the curiosity to know how he will face such a circumstance.

But for that same aspect, having 2 characters with the ability, both villain and hero, the thing is quite complicated and entertains even more.

Con respecto al fan service, realmente me disgusta que lo hagan, en gran manera. Y también lo que mencionas de que un personaje pase a prácticamente ser el prota sin razón de ser.
