Trying Out The Vietnamese Pineapple Fried Rice

12th December 2022

While walking on the street of Kowloon City looking for a restaurant to dine in, I came across a street with a long line of Asian restaurants. I was kind've fed up eating the same kind of Chinese food every holiday, so I looked for something new. The ones on my list were Thai, Korean, and Japanese, but Vietnamese wasn't on my mind.

But then I saw this restaurant and it wasn't too crowded. Without hesitation, I scanned my Leave Home Safe app and got in.

I was curious about the taste of Vietnamese food, so I wanted to try even just one of them.

The interior is just a typical Asian design, but cozy. There were only a few customers when I got in, but a lot more came later in the afternoon, and most were in groups. I guess I was the only one who came solo.

There are some artworks on the wall too, paintings of simple living in the countryside. Those paintings reminded me of my childhood drawings. Back in the day, I usually draw a portrait of a single tree and a house somewhere in the countryside with green lushes, or a river on the side.

My order arrived fast in less than 20 minutes. However, it wasn't the one I was expecting. Since some of the recipes don't have photos in the menu book, I was expecting something different.

I was expecting something like the one in the photo which I tried once in a Thai restaurant before. It's pineapple fried rice inside a pineapple bowl and it really tastes so good.

But the Vietnamese pineapple fried rice is just literal fried rice with pineapple chunks. Nonetheless, it tastes good as well. The pineapple they used is fresh and is not those in the can. Other ingredients include Chinese sausage, meat strips, corn, carrot, beans, cucumber, and pork floss. The seasoning they used is probably Vietnamese style since it tasted different from the usual Chinese fried rice.

You can check the pineapple fried rice in this short video I took while eating in this restaurant.

Aside from their main Vietnamese menu, there are delicacies displayed near the counter too. But these foods just look like Thai delicacies I've been seeing in the Thai market.

Well, Thai and Vietnam are just neighbors, and they also like using the same kind of ingredients in cooking such as coconut, pandan, and Asian herbs and condiments.

And lastly, this was my favorite part of the restaurant. A portrait of a mother and young elephant. This made me confused if I was in a Vietnamese or Thai restaurant, lol.

That's all for today's food blog. Happy new week everyone.

Thai, Vietnam, and you forgot about Indonesia 😅 Many foods with the same ingredients. Just the difference with the name 🤣

Hm sorry your order was not suitable to your expectation. In the past, I try Thai fried rice served with pineapple. But I didn't like it because they use pineapple cubes too for the filling and they tasted sour. Maybe if the pineapple was sweet it will change the taste better.
