Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1097)

Hello Everyone!

An overcast day spent coding, A Hive file chunker, Building a Homesteading Helper GPT & Harvesting grapevines!

The sun set not all that long ago and I am right on time as far as sticking to my writing routines go. Oddly enough I wrapped up many of my 'late day chores' just before it began raining... which was sheer coincidence given that I was more or less doing so on a fluke.

It was another very overcast day and the sky stayed even darker with clouds than it did yesterday... and today's clouds were nowhere near as pretty as yesterday's were. That is the fall weather though... and there is not much that I can do about it... besides working with it instead of against it.

I was up before the sunrise this morning (again) and immediately dove into some coding projects while the first cup of espresso was still brewing. Something sure did 'click' in my brain while I stared bleary eyed at the screen... and let my half-awake brain probe the possibilities.

Of course one thing lead to another with that... and before I knew it I had finally found a method to split large files into lots of smaller ones in JSON format. I will not bore you with the details here... but suffice it to say that each smaller file is roughly the size of a single block on the Hive blockchain.

Not to get lost in the proverbial 'weeds' here with explaining all that... but my next goal on that project is to establish a framework for writing (and being able to retrieve) the contents of the files to (and from) the blockchain... and of course be able to reconstruct them as the original file (or files) later. There are a heck of a lot of steps... and a bit of a learning curve ahead of me... but I at least have a very good idea of how to achieve it all.

I also worked more on that homesteading GPT model... and for now it is called 'Homesteading Helper' and although I made it publicly available... it is not quite in the state that I want it to be in yet. The big snag in that model's evolution is still getting all the CD3WD data available to it. I finally got it all uploaded to the model but it does not navigate the zip files well enough to be all that practical.

Anyways, by late afternoon I was feeling kind of burned out on doing computer related projects... and headed outdoors to get some of my goals for the week done. I kind of did a bunch of things at once because I had a fire, got my elder dog washed... and harvested the bulk of the remaining grapevines.

Now that I think of it I am really glad that I buckled down and worked on getting the vines... because whoa it is raining pretty good out there at the moment... and it would have been another long wait for them to get dried out enough (again) for harvesting. At this point there is only a handful of the vines left on the fence and they are all ones that I could not easily get to from inside the dog yard.

In hindsight I am really glad that I saved all those smaller vines (that were branches) because without them I would have had to been way more picky during the overall harvesting to 'make the most' out of each vine. Given that many of those smaller vines will not be good for dreamcatchers it is not like it 'monumentally' increased my overall haul... but it did make quite the difference.

Well, I think that is all the words that I have in me for one day. I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice time.
