Afikpo Village Wrestling Contest Eke Day 2

I bring us a new day with a different community wrestling contest. Afikpo North, Ebonyi State, Nigeria wrestling contest is a contest that have stayed for years. It's part of the African culture from Igbo tribe, Nigeria. We Igbo's values culture the way many other tribes do. Our wrestling contest is part of our culture. Aim of it is for unity, entertainment, reconciliation, and to keep African culture alive.

These wrestling culture of ours do take place six to seven times in a week. Usual times for it is after every two days in one week. Afikpo North wrestling contest is counted from Igbo market days of Eke and Afor market days.

I'm supposed to share this post yesterday but I had a battery low as my community is faced with electricity problem, I charged it this morning. It was that yesterday Eke market day we had another wrestling contest. As my people was about to kick of wrestling contest, it nearly rained. The small drop of rain contributed to low turnout of people coming out on time to watch wrestling contest. It was towards evening from five PM, people were able to find their ways to the wrestling village square.

The story now began

For now we pushed newly for wrestling contest of our people, children are the ones that begins to wrestle between their age mate. The wrestling I watched was differently as two people who wrestled put all of us who watched the game into laugh.

At first, first wrestler came out and the second followed. The wrestlers begins to show their muscles as they later kick off from Atamaja known as referee.

We all was watching the game with laugh and anxiety who will eventually win from two of the wrestlers. My people wrestling is not by muscle as WWWE but of tactics and experience. For any wresler to be declared winner his opponent back will touch ground to have sand on his back.

As two of the wrestlers was wrestling, much time was not spent as first wresler rushed second person, raised him up above his head, finally throw him to the ground. We all celebrated the winner. From my watching, people from crowd noted that the winner were more experienced than the person who lost. The crowd note winners father was a great wresler when he was alive.
