Peníscola Old Town at Night | 老城夜色
Following the seafood eatery in Peníscola, now let's have a look at the impressive old town at night! :)
Peníscola is a Spanish town situated on the Costa del Azahar along the Mediterranean coast. I took these photos by placing my camera on top of a metal railing, at a dark vantage point opposite the port and walled area. It was quite cold at night, so I could hardly feel my hands (and feet) after trying out all these long exposure shots.
See that ancient castle sitting on top? It is also known as the Castle of Papa Luna. Its essential form was constructed by the Knights Templar, a powerful military order in the Middle Ages. The order was founded at the beginning of the 12th century by 9 French knights, who planned to build a kingdom surrounding Peníscola. They were responsible for defending Christian holy sites and protecting the pilgrims to Jerusalem. It was later recognised by the Catholic Church in Troyes. With its most characteristic templar symbols, the Peníscola Castle is a great representative of the order.
This last legendary templar fortress, as well as the old houses and walls, has been a popular location for cinematographic and television productions since a century ago. For instance, multiple scenes in the 1961 historical drama film "El Cid" were shot here, such as the battle of Valencia, which was on location along the beaches. The Peníscola Castle also offered a stage for Charlton Heston and Sofia Loren, the protagonists in the movie.
Another famous example is the HBO series "Game of Thrones". The town of Peníscola was filmed as the backdrop for Meereen, the largest city in Slaver’s Bay. The rulers of Meereen’s Slaving Families live in the pyramids, which were added in post-production. Real-life sites like the Peníscola Castle, Plaza Santa María, and the Parque de la Artillería also appeared in the series.

Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. The old town here looks amazing. I bet it would be a magical and probably eerie walk along those narrow streets all the way to the top.
