Cala Canyelles on the Costa Brava | 狂野海岸南端港湾Canyelles

I mentioned artsy Cadaqués and Portlligat in the "Dalinian Triangle", which are close to the northern end of Costa Brava, the "Wild Coast" in Catalonia. But we skipped visiting them last month as it was incredibly windy there that week. We went to less wild inland for the Púbol Castle instead, and drove to Roses afterwards. Roses is just a bit south of Cadaqués, boasting the longest beach on the Costa Brava.

Today I'm going to show you a more secluded bay at the southern end of Costa Brava, called Cala Canyelles. By the way, "cala" is a great word to search for on the map, if you crave for a nice cove in Catalan-speaking regions! :) Cala Canyelles is in the eastern part of Lloret de Mar, one of the towns in Catalonia being awarded with the most blue-flags certification in recognition of their quality beaches.

You can reach the cove and port here in about 10 minutes' drive from the center of Lloret de Mar. Then you will see an isolated strand of beach surrounded by green pine woods, with cliffs, houses and restaurants rising from the back. It's easy to reach, yet still retaining a sense of serenity. Perhaps the off-season and the pandemic add to its tranquility.

It's still too cold for weak me to dip into the water, but it looks like a good place for swimming and snorkeling when it's warmer. There are lots of fish and sea urchins in the water at the adjacent port. You can also try waterskiing and kayaking at the bay. When I was there, only a couple of visitors were sunbathing on the beach.

I saw campsites, hotels, villas and rental apartments in the area, but most of them were closed at the time. Lockers, hammocks and sun umbrellas are available to rent in the high season too. The signs here are often multilingual with Catalan, Spanish, French and English on them, sometimes other languages such as German can also be seen.

也许是淡季和疫情的缘故，这处港湾显得格外宁静。我去的时候只看到零零星星几个游客在沙滩上晒太阳。这个季节还不适合我这种怕冷的人下水，不过这里看起来是游泳和浮潜的好地方。靠近港口的水中能看到很多小鱼和海胆，旁边也有店家出租皮划艇。

附近有露营地、酒店、别墅和出租公寓等，但这个时候大部分都关闭了。旺季也可以租用储物柜、吊床和遮阳伞。这里的标示牌比比利时还要纠结，通常有四种语言：加泰罗尼亚语、西班牙语、法语和英语，有时也可以看到其他语言，比如德语。
