My village people were out to take their pound of flesh

I woke up to a throbbing headache. The day before, it seemed that everything was working against me and I didn't just know what to do. I know that disappointments come from time to time but when it came to every single project and appointment that I had that very day, I was led to suspect that something was awfully wrong. Perhaps I had offended my village people and they were now taking their pound of flesh.

I had three jobs to deliver on that fateful Friday so I woke up by 6 am so I could begin and finish up on time, especially since I had an appointment with one of my girls whom I had promised to follow to the market.

Despite starting on time, I submitted my stories very late. After writing more than five hundred words, my Google documents suddenly stopped responding. I would have easily switched over to WPS but I had already written more than half of that story. There was no starting over now, especially when I had so much work to do.

When I was eventually able to get it to respond again by updating the app, my network suddenly seized.

I thought I was frustrated that morning but the real frustration was yet to come.

Thankfully, I spotted one of the corpers living in the compound with me so I ran up to him.

“Please, I need your help. My network is bad, can I connect my wifi to send a document?”

He turned his hotspot on and I was successfully able to overcome that hurdle. Since I had two more jobs to deliver and it was already noon, I decided that I wasn't going to cook, instead, I would walk down my estate and buy food from the restaurant where I usually ate in situations like this.

After walking all the way under that sun, I saw that they were not open yet and neither were the two other restaurants within the estate.

“Excuse me,” I called out to the waiter I met in the last restaurant. “Please where is everybody? This is almost 1 pm and there is no food in any restaurant”

“Today is the big market day. There was food this morning but they left to the big market”

I thanked her and took my leave. Who left their businesses untended simply because it was a market day? And couldn't they have sent their waiters or someone else to the market? While I was still wondering, I received a message from one of the clients that the deadline was 4 pm and she was hoping that I was close to completion of the work.

I had to grab bread and Pepsi, even when I made a commitment to stop taking carbonated drinks then hurried home to finish up her writing.

In the middle of typing and eating, my phone ran low so I connected it to my laptop and I was able to successfully finish writing. Now I needed someone who could turn their hotspot on for me again.

I went back to James’s house but he wasn't around so I went to the provision store across my house. There was a POS person there, surely the guy would have data. He didn't.

As all this drama was unfolding, I couldn't see that my friend had sent me over seven messages on WhatsApp. It was already 3 pm when she called me.

“Treasure! Why aren't you responding to my messages?”

“I'm so sorry Suzie, I can't see your messages because my network has been really bad. Where are you at the moment?”

“I'm at the market now. Can you still make it?”

Since I needed to use someone's hotspot, I decided that it was a good thing for me to go so I said yes.

I got to the market around almost 4:30 pm and then sent the document to my client who didn't fail to express her displeasure. I had to write the third job on the road and that pissed Suzie off.

“If you couldn't make it because of your job why didn't you just say so? This is rude, please. And I told you about this throughout last week!” Then she stormed off. All my pleadings and begging to make her see my point yielded nothing. Eventually, I got upset and returned home.

Immediately I was able to send the final document which was by 9 pm, I stretched myself out on the bed and went to sleep. I woke up the following morning with a searing headache so I slept back till almost 1 pm.

I don't remember sleeping like that, in sickness and in health, in years. I know that when I am exhausted I take time out to sleep but sleeping from 9 pm till 1 pm the following day only happened once in a blue moon.

When I woke up, it seemed like the frustration of the day before died in my sleep because I was happier than I recalled myself being in a long, long time.

I think Ms. Treasure finally got a decent night's sleep🥰. You clearly needed it after the day you had 🤗. I also tend to survive on little sleep and then crash now and then and sleep for 10 hours or more. I am trying to get more consistent sleep. Studies show that humans need to be in bed for around 9 hours each night to get 8 hours of sleep. This is important because it takes the brain 8 hours to flush out the toxins that build up during the day. I hope your internet connectivity improves. It's so frustrating when you see your signal slip to nothing. What kind of writing work are you doing at the moment? Ghostwriting? Copywriting? Something else? I hope it's fulfilling and rewarding.

Poor internet connection generally is not a thing to be happy about especially when you need it to meet up before deadline 😪C'mon, we're in the digital age and everyone seems to be on the internet.

My internet connectivity has improved now😊

And yes, my writing work has been rewarding and fulfilling 😊

Thank you so much for your comment, @samsmith1971

Those days are stress and Fatigue is very common in our lives, whether for one reason or another everything gets complicated and puts us in a difficult position. At least sleeping all that time helped you recover and regain your calm.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Excellent Tuesday.

A stressful day is never what we ever plan for.

I can't imagine if I didn't have a good night sleep 'cos I don't know how the next day could be for me.
