Introduction ENG-ESP

Mi nombre es Isaac Sivira. Me encanta leer y escribir tanto historias cortas, poesía, reflexiones filosóficas y algo de música. Eso en parte viene de familia y además reforzado por mi profesión. Me gradué en 2019 como profesor de inglés en la UPEL Maracay en Venezuela. Ser profesor de inglés no quiere decir que nunca meto la pata o que soy un diccionario humano. Ser profesor de una lengua extranjera implica ayudar a otros a adquirir unas destrezas de comprensión y producción tales como el uso de estructuras gramaticales, pronunciación precisa, estrategias para desarrollar la fluidez y el pensamiento crítico, métodos de lectura etc. Además de un rico componente cultural que permita expandir la mente de los aprendices.

¿Por qué me hice profesor?
Encuentro inevitable compartir lo que sé y hago. Me resulta imposible no ayudar a mejorar a las personas en lo que hacen o brindarles herramientas para que tengan éxito. Además de que me encanta conversar.

My name is Isaac Sivira. I love reading and writing short stories, poetry, philosophical reflections and a bit of music. That’s common in my family and it’s also reinforced by my occupation. I graduated as an English teacher in 2019 from UPEL Maracay in Venezuela. Being an English teacher doesn’t mean that I never screw it up or that I’m a human dictionary. Teaching a foreign language implies helping others to acquire a group of comprehension and production skills like the use of grammar structures, accurate pronunciation, strategies to develop their fluency, critical thinking, reading methods, and a rich cultural component that allows the expansion of the learner’s mind.

Why did I become a teacher?
I found inevitable to share what I know or do. It’s impossible for me not to help people in what they do or to offer them tools to succeed. Moreover, I love talking.

He trabajado como una especie de escritor fantasma durante los últimos años. Desarrollo material didáctico para un par de empresas extranjeras que lo usan para enseñar inglés y español vía online. Debo decir que amo aprender y enseñar inglés, pero honestamente, amo a la lengua española por sobre todas las cosas y coloco más cuidado en ella que en mi segunda lengua, o en la otra lengua que estudio: el alemán. Un idioma muy sistemático y algo complicado que implica un desafío para mí y que disfruto mucho. En alemán existen palabras que condensan conceptos completos y su sistema morfológico y sintáctico tiene una coherencia pasmosa.

I’ve worked as a kinda ghost writer during the last years. I develop didactic resources for a couple of foreign companies that use them to teach English and Spanish online. I must say that I do love learning and teaching English, but I honestly have a deeper love for the Spanish language above all things and I care about it more than I do about my second language or the other language I study: German. Deutsch is a very systematic and complex language that represents a challenge for me, and I enjoy it quite a lot. There are words in German that compress full concepts, and its morphology and syntax have an astonishing coherence.

Como dije escribo poesía. Mi padre también escribe poesía de estilo social y mis hermanas tienen también su vena poética. Escucharlo toda mi vida rimando me influenció en gran manera. Me gusta más la poesía que rima por aquello del placer auditivo como dijo Borges en una conferencia. Sin embargo, no desdeño el verso libre, el cual exige una capacidad de evocación muy fuerte para lograr mantener al lector unido a su cadencia. Por otro lado, mi objetivo poético es la exploración de una estética del mal, de lo abominable, que le provoque repulsión al lector, una poética de lo abyecto, de los sentimientos bajos y opiniones más sucias. Y debo aclarar que mucho de lo que escribo no lo apoyo, sencillamente encuentro divertido el meterme en otra piel, asumir otros roles y sombras que no son mías, cruzar el umbral. Por eso, mis poemas tienen como finalidad y propósito causarle disgusto a quienes los lean, que sientan asco o que no logren sentirse identificados por el mensaje. Aquí subo una breve muestra de uno de ellos. Los poemas en inglés van a diferir mucho de su versión en español, ya que deseo mantener la rima en ambas lenguas. Tal vez en el futuro lo haga con el alemán también.

As I said I write poetry. My father writes social poetry also, as well as my sisters do. Listening to my father saying rhymes through all my life influenced me as I did not have a clear idea. Now I can tell how much. I love rhymed poetry because of the auditory pleasure of each word corresponding to a future one, Borges said something about that in a conference. However, I don’t disdain the free verse, which demands a strong capacity for evocation so that the reader gets tied to the poem until its end. On the other hand, my poetic purpose is the exploration an aesthetic of evil, abominable and ominous feelings; poems that provoke repulsion, a poetry of the abjection, low feelings and dirty opinions. I must clarify that I don’t support much of what I write. I simply have fun in getting into a different skin, assuming other roles and shadows that aren’t mine, crossing the threshold. Therefore, my poems aim at causing disgust on those who read them, to make them feel sickened and have no empathy with the message. Here I upload a brief taste of one of them. My poems in English will differ slightly from the original Spanish version since I want to preserve the rhyme in both languages. I will probably do the same in German.

En la universidad me enamoré mucho más de la literatura, pero también del estudio lingüístico. He escrito muchas reflexiones acerca del uso del lenguaje, del lenguaje figurativo, las figuras retóricas y del modo en el que aparentemente el lenguaje modifica nuestra mente. Diría que el lenguaje es mi principal preocupación, el lenguaje y todo lo que deriva de él. El lenguaje como instinto, el lenguaje en la sociedad, los diversos tipos de lenguajes formales y naturales, el lenguaje como "casa del ser" como medio de vida, y como instrumento.

When I was at college, I fell in love much more with literature, but also with linguistics. I've written several reflections about the use of language, figurative language, hermeneutics, rhetoric figures and the way language apparently shapes our minds. I'd say that my main concern in life is language itself and everything that derives from it. Language as an instinct,formal and natural languages, language as "the house of being", language as an instrument, as as means of life

He participado activamente en varias agrupaciones de metal extremo, bandas de thrash metal, deathcore, death metal y sobre todo black metal. Mis influencias musicales en este campo son All Shall Perish, The Ocean, Dystopia Na, Dark Funeral, Alcest, Drudkh, Fen, Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity entre muchas otras. Realizo varios estilos de voces guturales y toco la guitarra. Estudio guitarra clásica por mi cuenta, la cual es otra de mis pasiones. En realidad puedo escuchar desde música clásica, salsa erótica, jazz, boleros y en ocasiones hasta rancheras y vallenatos. He soñado incluso con hacer un álbum de rap en algún momento, rimando sobre temas poco comunes en ese género. Quizás en el futuro publique también algo de música por aquí, pero por ahora, poesía maligna. Aquí coloco algunas imágenes de trabajos realizados con esas bandas que pueden encontrar en Youtube.

I’ve participated actively in some extreme metal bands, thrash metal, deathcore, death metal and above all black metal bands. My influences are All Shall Perish, The Ocean, Dystopia Na, Dark Funeral, Alcest, Drudkh, Fen, Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity among others. I do several styles of guttural voices and I play the guitar. I learn classical guitar on my own. I actually listen to different kinds of music from classical music, salsa, jazz, boleros and sometimes even rancheras and vallenatos. I’ve also dreamed of recording a rap album using rhymes that aren’t common in that genre. Perhaps in the future I’ll post some music here, but just evil poetry for the moment. Band: Austral EP: A Holistic Vision. Year: 2015. I recorded the vocals and wrote the lyrics. My friend Kley Araña from Beyond of Desolation, Astral Wolf and others wrote all the music and designed the art work.

Amo la literatura y también sé un poco sobre filosofía. Pero más que hablar de los sistemas filosóficos de autores como Marías, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Foucault, Séneca, Ortega y Gasset, Epicteto, Gadamer, entre otros que me encantan, pues **me gusta escribir mis propias reflexiones en torno a temas actuales**** como la influencia de la tecnología en el individuo y la sociedad. En su debido momento publicaré por aquí mis pensamientos en torno a esas cosas que pienso. Solía escribir historias cortas, incluso gané un pequeño concurso en mi universidad, pero la crisis del país hizo imposible siquiera celebrar una modesta ceremonia de premiación. Así que sigo inédito, pero no por mucho, estimo concluir mi primer poemario este año. Y luego seguir con un libro de cuentos o una novela breve. Influencias literarias: Borges, Eduardo Liendo, Fedosy Santaella, Fernando Vallejo, Chuck Palahniuk, Ramos Sucre, Pessoa, Baudelaire entre muchos otros.

I love literature, and I also know a bit about philosophy, but more than just talking about the systems of authors such as Marías, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Foucault, Séneca, Ortega y Gasset, Epicteto, Gadamer, and many others I find interesting, I love writing my own reflections about current matters like the influence of technology in the individual and society. I’ll post some of my thoughts here when the right moment comes. I used to write short stories and I won a small contest when I was at college, but the crisis in my country made impossible even a modest ceremony award. Hence, I still haven’t published anything. But not for so long since I expect to finish my first poem book this year. After that I’d like to keep on with a book of short stories or a brief novel. Literary influences: Borges, Eduardo Liendo, Fedosy Santaella, Fernando Vallejo, Chuck Palahniuk, Ramos Sucre, Pessoa, Baudelaire and many others.

Continúo en la búsqueda de mí mismo, en la construcción de mi yo y también de mis otros. Tengo pensado ** estudiar otras cosas**, mudarme a otros lugares, conocer otras personas. Espero conseguir algo de apoyo aquí y obtener ingresos extra, pues para nadie es un secreto que Venezuela es un país crítico para un profesor.

Y si no logro triunfar, pues al menos disfrutar la experiencia en Hive.

I’m still looking for myself, building who I am, and my alter egos. I’m planning to study other things, moving to different places, getting to know other people. I expect to find some support here, and to get some extra income, since it is not a secret for anybody that Venezuela is a tough country for a teacher.

And if I don’t thrive, then at least to enjoy the Hive experience.
