Another Treasure from the Box: Canadian $1

I opened my box of treasures and pulled out the leather envelope again and discovered Canadian dollars that are no longer in circulation.

I took them outside and took some photos. Living close to the Canadian border, we have used the "Loonie" and "Twoonie" coins. It's sort of nice paying for low-cost items with coins, rather than with bills. But it wasn't always like that. Canada did have one and two dollar bills.

Here are some details of the Canadian $1 note.

It's a handsome note, I like the colors and style. Looks very official, clearly denoting the value of the note.

The back is fascinating: it depicts the logging industry with the river filled with logs manipulated around with tugboats.

And the Finance Minister has been yakking about getting rid of the $5 note since last year. Further proof that our buying power is slowly being eaten away by money printing. Perhaps a pretext to roll out Project Jasper, Canada's own CBDC.

Will there be a five dollar coin? What's next $10? Why not $20? When we see $100 as the new "dollar", we know we're in trouble. Visiting a fast-food restaurant's $100 value menu.

And it used to be nicknamed, the Canada Peso back when it was $0.60 USD

Very nice my friend. I know somewhere I also have a Canadian Dollar note from 1967 I believe that I got in my youth. I know that Canada does not mint pennies anymore. Enjoy.

It sounds kind of weird to hear that $1 bills are no longer in circulation. It makes me wonder when everything will go digital and there will be no more cash being used.
