The benefits of planting near your home:Even a little land is enough to cultivate few home crops 🖤

It's my first post in this beautiful community and to be honest I'm so excited to be one of you.
I want to share with you on the benefits of cultivating close to your home.

 Before , i underestimated the need to cultivate few companion food crops, i thought they were pointless that you could always purchase them by yourself anytime. But my friend made me realize the importance in it. Although i refused till a day i was sick and couldn't leave the house to a far distance i felt the need to have a companion crop at home 

I'm a great lover of vegetable soup locally called ( efere nkong in my dialect,Ibibio) so i started with that.

It grew beyond my expectations and i use it very often for the preparation of vegetable soup, vegetable rice , porridge yam, porridge plantain, noodles etc . If i didn't have vegetable planted beside my home , i would've felt lazy at times to go purchase them including the cost of it

The second is the water leaf :

Water leaf in my locality is one of me most used leaf
It is used with afang, melon, bitter leaf etc some people prepare it as a soup itself, in most cases it is used as enema for the treatment of heat

The next is pepper 🌶️:

When i planted it, i had low expectations, i thought it wouldn't yeild but surprisingly it did . Instead of going out to purchase it, i easily cut it and use at my convenience

I have my bitter leaf

Bitterleaf in my locality is a soup itself, it's used alongside with waterleaf , since it's bitter we believe it's good for the health so some squeeze the water out and drink for health purposes. And the bitterleaf with less bitterness is sometimes used in porridge yam, or plantain etc

Lastly is my yam

I'm sure we're fond of yam, Yam is actually one of my favorite food, although it isn't due for harvest i already have lined up plans for it 😂

Planting a companion food crop is actually a very nice thing you could do, even a small plot behind your house could cultivate much more than you expected, I'm a witness 😁
