Hace poco fue estrenada en Netflix la película musical titulada "tick, tick...BOOM!", dirigida por Lin-Manuel Miranda (Director de el musical Hamilton) y protagonizada por Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker/Spider-Man en las películas de The Amazing Spider-Man).

Este filme nos cuenta la historia de Jonathan Larson, quien se encuentra escribiendo la última canción que le falta para culminar Superbia, su obra musical a estrenarse en pocos días y que espera lo lleve al éxito, a la vez que se prepara para su cumpleaños número 30.

It was recently released on Netflix the musical film entitled "tick, tick...BOOM!", directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Director of the musical Hamilton) and starring Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man movies).

This film tells the story of Jonathan Larson, who is writing the last song he needs to finish Superbia, his musical work to be released in a few days and which he hopes will lead him to success, while he prepares for his 30th birthday.

En la víspera de los 30

El principal tema de la película es la presión de la llegada a los 30 años, edad a la que, según Larson, dejas de ser una persona joven. Larson pasa tantos años de su vida trabajando en su primera obra, Superbia, que teme que el fracaso de la obra signifique el fracaso de su carrera teatral.

Dentro de esta temática, están presentes muchos problemas típicos de la etapa de la juventud, tales como el miedo al futuro, el compararse con otros, la procrastinación y el bloqueo creativo, de forma que es fácil identificarse y empatizar con Jonathan en su situación.

On the Eve of 30

The main theme of the film is the pressure of reaching 30, the age at which, according to Larson, you cease to be a young person. Larson spends so many years of his life working on his first play, Superbia, that he fears the play's failure means the failure of his theatrical career.

Within this theme, many typical problems of the youth stage are present, such as fear of the future, comparing oneself to others, procrastination and creative block, so it is easy to identify and empathize with Jonathan in his situation.

Tick, tick...BOOM! usa la vida de Jonathan Larson como un medio para enseñarnos que, en el arte y en la vida, no podemos estancarnos en que nuestro futuro depende de un momento que determinará todo, sino que se trata de ir labrándose camino constantemente para acercarnos más a la persona que queremos ser, o a tener la vida que queremos tener. Del mismo modo, nos demuestra que el que no hayamos logrado algo a determinada edad, no quiere decir que no podamos lograrlo más adelante.

La película de hecho está basada en la historia real de Jonathan Larson, a la vez que toma como base la obra musical escrita por el propio Jonathan donde cuenta su propia experiencia.

Slowly and at your own pace

Tick, tick...BOOM! uses the life of Jonathan Larson as a means to teach us that, in art and in life, we can't get stuck in the idea that our future depends on one moment that will determine everything, it is about constantly working our way forward to get closer to the person we want to be, or to have the life we want to have. In the same way, it shows us that just because we have not achieved something at a certain age, does not mean that we cannot achieve it later on.

The film is in fact based on the true story of Jonathan Larson, while taking as a basis the musical play written by Jonathan himself where he recounts his own experience.

La actuación de Garfield

Entre las cosas que más disfruté de esta película, definitivamente destaca la actuación de Andrew Garfield, quien se mete por completo en el papel de este artista, nos expresa su dolor y su temor, a la vez que contagia su amor y pasión, todo con gran técnica que incluso implica la capacidad para cantar y realizar un performance de musical completo.

Among the things I enjoyed the most about this movie, definitely stands out the performance of Andrew Garfield, who gets completely into the role of this artist, he expresses his pain and fear, while transmitting his love and passion, all with great technique that even implies the ability to sing and make a full musical performance.

Michael y Jon

Otro de los elementos que más podría destacar de esta película es al personaje de Michael, el mejor amigo de toda la vida de Jonathan. Michael representa una conexión entre los sueños de Jonathan y el resto del mundo que le rodea, cumpliendo un papel importante a lo largo de la trama para definir el rumbo de Jon y las decisiones que tomará.

Another of the elements that I could highlight the most in this film is the character of Michael, Jonathan's lifelong best friend. Michael represents a connection between Jonathan's dreams and the rest of the world around him, playing an important role throughout the plot in defining Jon's direction and the decisions he will make.
