Tras haber iniciado la fase 2 del Universo Cinematográfico de Marvel con las secuelas individuales de los miembros de los Vengadores, llega el turno de una película que nuevamente nos introduce en un nuevo mundo de este universo, en este caso, el mundo de Star-Lord y los forajidos que se acabarán convirtiendo en los Guardianes de la Galaxia.

After having started phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the individual sequels of the members of the Avengers, comes the turn of a movie that again introduces us to a new world of this universe, in this case, the world of Star-Lord and the outlaws that will end up becoming the Guardians of the Galaxy.

El bajo mundo espacial

En Guardianes de la Galaxia, Marvel nos presenta una historia espacial, en un espacio muy diferente al presentado en las películas de Thor, esta vez adentrándose más en la variedad de civilizaciones alienígenas que hay en la galaxia, así como en las fuerzas que se encuentran en ella.

De este modo, Marvel continúa con la expansión de su universo y nos da más material que será utilizado frecuentemente en sus próximas películas, tales como el sistema de viajes espaciales por saltos, civilizaciones como los Xandarianos y el imperio Kree, los primeros conceptos de los Celestiales, una introducción directa al personaje de Thanos, una mayor idea de lo que son las Gemas del Infinito, así como diversas razas alienígenas que serán eventualmente reutilizadas.

The space underworld

In Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel presents us with a space story, in a very different space than the one presented in the Thor movies, this time delving deeper into the variety of alien civilizations in the galaxy, as well as the forces within it.

In this way, Marvel continues with the expansion of its universe and gives us more material that will be used frequently in its upcoming films, such as the jumping space travel system, civilizations like the Xandarians and the Kree empire, the first concepts of the Celestials, a direct introduction to the character of Thanos, a greater idea of what the Infinity Stones are, as well as various alien races that will eventually be reused.

La llegada de James Gunn

James Gunn no era un director con una filmografía muy extensa antes de dirigir esta película, sin embargo, consiguió plasmar su propia visión y estilo en ella, creando un mundo cósmico, divertido y colorido con aires de los 80 transmitidos a través del protagonista y la música que le rodea, de modo que logra dotar a Guardianes de la Galaxia de gran personalidad que la diferencia del resto de películas de su franquicia, sin necesidad de llegar al extremo de aislarla

El trabajo de James Gunn fue tan gustoso que logró que se gane la confianza del estudio para tener más libertad en su secuela, Guardianes de la Galaxia Volumen 2, logró que el público lo defendiera de su despido por parte de Disney tras cierras polémicas que le rodearon, así como logró darle un puesto importante para la franquicia de DC Comics con su rol de director en The Suicide Squad y de Showrunner de Peacemaker.

The Arrival of James Gunn

James Gunn was not a director with a very extensive filmography before directing this film, however, he managed to capture his own vision and style in it, creating a cosmic, fun and colorful world with a touch of the 80s transmitted through the protagonist and the music that surrounds him, so that he manages to give Guardians of the Galaxy great personality that differentiates it from other films in his franchise, without having to go to the extreme of isolating it.

James Gunn's work was so pleasing that he managed to win the studio's trust to have more freedom in its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, he managed to get the public to defend him from his dismissal by Disney after the controversies that surrounded him, as well as he managed to give him an important position for the DC Comics franchise with his role as director in The Suicide Squad and Showrunner of Peacemaker.

El equipo de Guardianes

El equipo de protagonistas está armado completamente de personajes recién presentados en la franquicia, por lo que cargan todos con la responsabilidad de ganarse el cariño del público con sus propias manos, cosa que efectivamente logran con su reparto bien elegido y la química bien lograda entre los personajes.

Peter Quill, interpretado por Chris Pratt, es el clásico personaje cómico que destaca por su capacidad para zafarse de los problemas a pesar de caer seguido en la ingenuidad y la torpeza. Zoe Saldana por su parte transmite la seriedad y hostilidad de Gamora pero sin que éstas choquen con la ligereza de la película y la comedia. A Rocket Raccoon le combina perfectamente el humor de Bradley Cooper en su personaje, así como su relación con Groot. Finalmente Dave Bautista llega a Hollywood con el pie derecho interpretando a Drax, el "fuerza bruta" del equipo.

The Guardians team

The team of protagonists is made up entirely of characters newly introduced in the franchise, so they all carry the responsibility of winning the public's affection with their own hands, something they effectively achieve with their well-chosen cast and the well-achieved chemistry between the characters.

Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, is the classic comedic character who stands out for his ability to get out of trouble despite often falling into naivety and clumsiness. Zoe Saldana for her part conveys the seriousness and hostility of Gamora but without them clashing with the lightness of the film and the comedy. Rocket Raccoon is perfectly matched by Bradley Cooper's humor in his character, as well as his relationship with Groot. Finally Dave Bautista arrives in Hollywood on the right foot playing Drax, the "brute force" of the team.

La Banda Sonora, el sexto integrante del equipo

El Walkman que posee siempre Peter consigo con el cassette de Awesome Mix Vol. 1, con la música que acompañará también al espectador a lo largo de la película, hace de la aventura de los Guardianes una experiencia aún más disfrutable, con una selección musical muy bien elegida y resaltada intencionalmente por James Gunn como parte de su estilo y su intención con esta película.

De hecho, la canción "Hooked on a Feeling" de Blue Swede, acaba asociándose tanto con la película que actualmente no puedo escuchar esa canción sin pensar en los Guardianes de la Galaxia, cosa que estoy seguro de que le pasa a más de uno.

El Awesome Mix Vol. 1 puede encontrarse en internet para oírse por cuenta propia, con una variedad de canciones clásicas de los 80 que permiten al oyente disfrutar de la misma atmósfera retro que da la película.

The Soundtrack, the sixth member of the team.

The Walkman that Peter always has with him with the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 cassette*, with the music that will also accompany the viewer throughout the film, makes the Guardians adventure an even more enjoyable experience, with a very well chosen musical selection intentionally highlighted by James Gunn as part of his style and his intention with this film.

In fact, the song "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede, ends up becoming so associated with the movie that I currently can't listen to that song without thinking of Guardians of the Galaxy, which I'm sure happens to more than one.

The Awesome Mix Vol. 1 can be found on the internet to listen to on its own, with a variety of classic 80's songs that allow the listener to enjoy the same retro atmosphere that the movie gives.

En Conclusión

Guardianes de la Galaxia es una de esas películas de Marvel Studios que merecen ser destacadas, pues consigue una personalidad propia en medio de películas con mucho parecido entre ellas, así como probablemente tiene influencia en la decisión de permitir a otros directores de la franquicia el dotar a sus películas de su propia personalidad.

In conclusion

Guardians of the Galaxy is one of those Marvel Studios films that deserve to be highlighted, as it achieves a personality of its own in the midst of films with a lot of similarity between them, as well as probably has influence in the decision to allow other directors in the franchise to endow their films with their own personality.
