JoJo's Bizarre Adventure definitivamente es uno de los Animes que más me han recomendado ver, además de ser referenciado por mis amigos y conocidos en una gran cantidad de conversaciones y siempre presente en los cosplayers en las últimas convenciones de Anime a las que tuve la oportunidad de asistir antes de la pandemia. Cuando vi que la serie se había sumado al catálogo de Netflix, pensé ¿Por qué no darle una oportunidad?

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is definitely one of the Anime that I have been recommended to watch the most, besides being referenced by my friends and acquaintances in a lot of conversations and always present among cosplayers in the last Anime conventions I had the opportunity to attend before the pandemic. When I saw that the series had been added to the Netflix catalog, I thought why not give it a chance?

Phantom Blood

La historia de esta serie se separa en diferentes partes, protagonizadas por diferentes héroes pertenecientes a distintas generaciones de la famila Joestar y todos con el apodo "JoJo" en común.

Hasta ahora 5 de esas partes han sido adaptadas a la televisión japonesa, de la producción de la adaptación de la parte 6 se encuentra Netflix a cargo, 8 partes han sido estrenadas en Manga y una parte 9 ha sido anunciada.

En esta oportunidad me centraré en mi opinión de la primera parte, titulada Phantom Blood. En esta historia que se desarrolla a finales del siglo IXX, el joven Jonathan Joestar debe enfrentarse a la llegada de Dio a su hogar, quien busca destruir el legado de los Joestar y quedarse con la herencia de Jonathan. La relación de ambos se volverá muy complicada y marcará la vida de ambos.

Phantom Blood

The story of this series is divided in different parts, starring different heroes belonging to different generations of the Joestar family and all with the nickname "JoJo" in common.

So far 5 of those parts have been adapted to Japanese TV, Netflix is in charge of producing the adaptation of part 6, 8 parts have been released in Manga and a part 9 has been announced.

This time I will focus on my opinion of the first part, titled Phantom Blood. In this story that takes place at the end of the IXX century, the young Jonathan Joestar must face the arrival of Dio to his home, who seeks to destroy the legacy of the Joestar and take Jonathan's inheritance. Their relationship will become very complicated and will mark the lives of both.

Jonathan Joestar

Jonathan Joestar es el primer protagonista que tenemos en esta serie. Jonathan destaca por su nobleza y su amabilidad en todo momento, pues como digno caballero, respeta completamente a todas las demás personas, así como ve la humanidad incluso en quienes menos parecen poseerla.

Jonathan es un personaje agradable y con una causa con la que es fácil empatizar, sin embargo, lo perfecto que es como persona, hace que sea difícil para el espectador conectar con sus emociones, así como su falta de conflictos internos lo vuelve un personaje ligeramente plano.

Jonathan Joestar

Jonathan Joestar is the first protagonist we have in this series. Jonathan stands out for his nobility and kindness at all times, for as a worthy gentleman, he completely respects all other people, as well as sees humanity even in those who seem to possess it the least.

Jonathan is a likable character with a cause that is easy to empathize with, however, how perfect he is as a person, makes it difficult for the viewer to connect with his emotions, as well as his lack of inner conflict makes him a slightly flat character.

Dio Brando

A nivel de personalidad, el personaje que más se luce en este arco es, sin duda alguna, el antagonista Dio Brando.

Dio es un personaje diseñado para ganarse inmediatamente el odio del espectador, cosa que logra desde sus primeras acciones. La forma en la que el personaje se adentra en la vida de los Joestar, mientras descubrimos sus intenciones y a la vez que su relación con el inocente Jonathan se va complicando más, logra todo esto que el espectador realmente comparta el disgusto hacia sus acciones y espere así el momento en que finalmente sea derrotado.

El actor de voz Takehito Koyasu, encargado de la voz de Dio, hace un excelente trabajo de caracterización al interpretar a su personaje, logrando que éste tenga una voz muy fácil de reconocer y recordar.

Dio Brando

On terms of personality, the character that shines the most in this arc is, without a doubt, the antagonist Dio Brando.

Dio is a character designed to immediately earn the viewer's hatred, which he achieves from his first actions. The way in which the character delves deeper into the lives of the Joestar, as we discover his intentions and as his relationship with the innocent Jonathan becomes more complicated, manages to make the viewer really share the distaste for his actions and look forward to the moment when he is finally defeated.

Voice actor Takehito Koyasu, who voices Dio, does an excellent job of characterization in portraying his character, making his voice very easy to recognize and remember.

Una entrada simple

La trama de Phantom Blood carece de muchos elementos para considerarla una buena trama, por lo que realmente es un inicio muy flojo para esta serie. De todos modos, su corta duración de 9 episodios, permite que sea viable tomarla como una introducción para el resto de la serie, con historias mucho mejor elaboradas y con mayor interés.

Por otro lado, aunque la historia no atraiga mucha atención por sí misma, genera el interés suficiente en su universo y en lo que podría ser una próxima historia con su material, tomando en cuenta las máscaras de piedra, la energía conocida como Hamon y los guerreros que hacen uso de ésta.

A simple entrance

The plot of Phantom Blood lacks many elements to consider it a good plot, so it really is a very weak start for this series. Anyway, its short duration of 9 episodes, allows it to be viable to take it as an introduction for the rest of the series, with much better elaborated stories and with more interest.

On the other hand, although the story does not attract much attention by itself, it generates enough interest in its universe and in what could be a next story with its material, taking into account the stone masks, the energy known as Hamon and the warriors that make use of it.

Yes

Resaltan también, a mi parecer, los temas de introducción y cierre de la serie. Con un opening que me recuerda mucho el estilo clásico de rock-pop japonés, y para cerrar, el ending es la canción Roundabot de la banda Yes (La forma en que la serie cortaba los episodios y pasaba a los créditos, llegó incluso a popularizar una serie de memes que imitaban dicho cierre con esa canción).

Also stand out, in my opinion, the introduction and closing themes of the series. With an opening that reminds me a lot of the classic Japanese rock-pop style, and for closing, the ending is the song Roundabot by the band Yes (The way the series cut the episodes and moved on to the credits, even popularized a series of memes that imitated the closing with that song).
