My she goat and her babies.
Sometimes, we see the unexpected happen about what we have made a calculative arrangements for and fully hopeful on, crashing down without help.
It's so painful to see someone's expectations crumbles maybe because of a minor mistake that's not even yours to fix or by something you never believed that could happen.
I have a she and a he goat that I have been feeding by going all out to the bush cutting the type of grasses they eat bringing them home to feed them for one year now. I mean, I have been taking very good care of these goats....let me say, they're husband and wife, 😂.
The female goat had no horns at all when she came but now has developed a huge horn. She got pregnant earlier this year and carried it to terms, she carried the baby goats for six months, 6 months. I was happy and expectant waiting for her to give birth so that the population of my goats can increase.
It happened on the 19th of July, she gave birth to two baby goats, a female goat and a male goat. I was totally surprised and shocked and at the same time happy that this very young female goat that was just growing around the yard could give birth to twin goats at this her tender age and first pregnancy, oooh, i was very much happy 😊.
The worst happened that she refused to breast feed her new born baby goats. I could not understand why... I went out asking people I think would know or help to tell me what I can do about this ugly development.
(Green leaves, their daily food.)
One of my aunts told me to grab her lay her on the floor and fix the mouth of the babies to her nipples so they can suck. I quickly did that, both of them sucked a little then I took the mother goat back to her pen, (goat's house). The baby goats were just crying wanting to be fed with their mother's breast milk but their mother refused to feed them... Very surprising to me.....
I asked my daughter to google out by asking, what could be used to feed new born baby goats in replacement of their mother's breast milk.
The answer was milk.
I bought powdered peak milk mixed it with water turned it to liquid and fed them with a spoon, while Carrying them one after the other in my hands, feeding them. They really drank a large quantity of the milk.
They liked it though, and were sucking the milk. After two days, I decided to return the babies to their mother from where I separated them. Thinking she will change her mind and start breastfeeding them but still she refused to do so.
But very painful after three days, these two new born baby goats died. I became terribly angry it was very painful. I even forgot to snap them as i was very angry that they finally died after all my efforts to make them live.
My son buried them, to me, I felt bad about the whole senerio, i wasn't expecting such. But what can I do than to expect she gets pregnant again very fast. I'm expectant now, maybe she will get pregnant soon and deliver three babies, 😂😂. I'm hoping it will come faster than normal, I want my goats to be more, and more and more in population!!!.
All that is bygone now.... Now i want some suggestions on what i could have done in such situation, we learn everyday from everything. Let me know how such situation should have been treated. Maybe apart from how I handled it.
The pictures are mine captured with my Tecno spark 8 phone camera.
