The Most Delicious Wantan Mee at Yulek
It was a special Saturday for us today. Usually, we slept in but this morning, everyone woke up at 6am because one of our friends wanted to give us a breakfast treat as a gesture of appreciation of all the help and support received. It was the most delicious wantan noodles he ever had eaten and he wanted us to try. He had been eating the same wantan noodles during his growing up, so we all knew this shop had been there for 30 years plus. Wow!!!
Yulek Wantan Mee Restaurant
This shop opens from 7:30am till 4pm, close on Tuesday. By the time we reached, rhe shop had yet to open. Once opened, in a span of 5 minutes, the shop was full of people. That shows how famous is this shop. Our friend immediately ordered for each and everyone of us one medium size wonton noodles. He also ordered for us fried dumplings and roasted pork belly.
Our spread of food!!!
Just look at our table. Full of food and drinks. So sumptuous breakfast!
Wantan Mee
Wantan or wonton noodles (mee) is a noodle dish of Cantonese origin. The springy egg noodles here were super top notch, really springy and had super nice bites. And the noodles were properly tossed in savory dark soy sauce with a hint of barbecued taste.
The most highly commendable in the plate of wantan mee was the 'char-siu' aka Chinese BBQ pork. You could tell they chose the best part of pork belly with a good blend of meat and fat. First bite, I felt heavenly. Haha. One could taste that the 'char-siu' was well marinated, skillfully barbecued to produce that soft, juicy bites of charred, savoury and sweet sticky pork belly. Not forgetting the portion was so big for one plate. I felt like it was large size. I couldn't finish so there was remainder to be packed home.
The wonton soup was a bit salty to my preference but the wontons in the soup were given 5/5 stars. Tasty minced pork wrapped with good wonton skin. Delicious!!! I gobbled up the 3 wonton in my soup in no time. 😎
Fried Dumplings
These was the star of the day according to my eldest son. He ate 3 immediately when they arrived. Well-seasoned minced pork, neatly wrapped with dumplings skin and professionally fried till crispy yet inside meat still tasty and juicy. Yumsss!!!
Roasted Pork Belly
We called this 'siu yuk' in Cantonese, which is Chinese roast pork belly. It was well-marinated and well-roasted with that crispy skinned roast pork. It was absolutely mouth-watering.
I ordered milk coffee for myself and I must say, the local coffee here was great. Thick enough and yet fragrant and had that aroma of well-roasted coffee beans. I asked for less sweet and indeed, I could tell only a little condensed milk was added.
We had such a great time of coming together albeit a brief one. I always love good company with good food. After our breakfast, we quickly vacated our seats because we noticed there was people waiting outside for seats. We continued our episode 2 of chitchat at the roadside. And took a group photo too!!! =)
Hope can come back here one day with our parents.
