Birthday Feast at Limapulo: Baba Can Cook!
Finally, I got to blog on this special day, where my husband and I celebrated our dear friend's birthday🎂💐. My husband chose this place to give her a special treat, knowing that this restaurant serves really delicious food. Let's!
Limapulo: Baba can cook!
This is one of the restaurants being selected for Michelin Guide and had been frequented by celebrities and influencers. They serves really authentic Nyonya cuisine, owned by Baba Nyonya, aka the Peranakan, the subgroup of Chinese communities. Baba is usually for the men, Nyonya for the women, I hope I am correct.
Location: 50, Jalan Doraisamy, Chow Kit, 50300 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Embark on a delectable journey to savor the most authentic Nyonya cuisine! Limapulo Baba Can. Elevate your weekends with unforgettable food. ~ taken from their IG.
Ambience
I really love the ambience, slightly towards the dim side (not using bright white light) to create the sense of calmness and home-feeling. They have outdoor's section as well as inside. If you prefer air-conditioning, then inside you shall be seated.
The decoration wise — loaded with traditional items as well as photo frames. It was a way to preserve and to show the relics, I guess. Well, most people come here for the food. So let me show you the menu.
Menu!
It has ala carte menu as well as the dishes menu. I noticed most working people who came for quick lunch would order the ala carte, while family and friends would order dishes type, to be shared among all. We, of course, ordered the dishes type.
Food we ordered
Pai Tee
We ordered one appetizer, they called it 'Pai Tee', which is a crispy top-hat-biscuit, filled with ingredients such as julienned cucumber, jicama, finally topped with juicy fresh prawn. One wouldn eat this with the chilli sauce too. If your mouth has enough space, you will be recommended to put the whole thing in, and bite all at once, the savour the blended taste. So so delicious!
Cucur Udang
We wanted to let our friend tried more stuff, so we ordered this too. In English, it is called prawn fritters. Limapulo's 'cucur udang' is really one of a kind. Instead of just the prawn fritters, they mixed it with 'tempeh aka fried fermented beans, fried beancurd, fish cakes, cucumbers, and drizzled with good amount of their homemade sauce of garlic-based chilli sauce. We squeezed the lime juice too. What a savoury, appetizing snack!
Ayam Berempah
This was highly recommended too. Actually, all the food was highly recommended. Lol... Spices chicken is famous Nyonya dish. This one was specially created by their chef with some secret ingredients between curry and spices, and came out this dish, the sauce would make me into cloud-9, so to speak. I think I could eat this on its own with big plate of rice. And would finish all the sauce clean and clear, if I ate it by myself without sharing.😂
Calamari Petai
For seafood, we chose calamari stirred fry with stinky beans, and their homemade 'sambal' aka chilli paste sauce. Perfectly done. Calamari so soft, blended well with sambal and petai. So glad we ordered this. I feel like eating this now while I type.
Kangkung Lemak Keledek
This one was another special dish. It was a type of water spinach vegetables, cooked together with pumpkin, stewed with coconut milk, making a super flavorful vegetables soup. This wow-ed. I wished my stomach was bigger, because I was getting reallyyyy full and couldn't eat too much of this soup vegetables.
Egg cincaluk
Cincaluk is fermented baby shrimp, a super appetizing food. Fried this with egg, and we had a delicious omelette. More towards the salty type, so if you don't prefer salty, you may not like cincaluk. But we loved it.
**Love their heart-shaped rice too! ❤️
Sago Gula Melaka
For dessert, we ordered this. One of our famous Malaysian dessert. It is made from chewy pearl sago and ate this with palm sugar and evaporated milk. Every mouthful was so satisfying. Good thing we only ordered one to be shared, because by dessert time, my pants almost exploded. 😂
Drinks
We had cold coffee and hot coffee, and our friend ordered Peranakan Ale, one type of refreshing ginger drink.
Felt so good after a great meal, and with someone who had been with us through ups and downs. She totally deserved this and much more, not only good food but all the blessings a human should have. We just wanted to give her a great treat and to pamper her too on her big day. Cheers to many more years of exploring life together and doing awesome stuffs together. Love your beautiful heart, Michelle. Such a precious woman of God!
