Wednesday walk : Way to the side of Town
Greetings,
The cities on the island of Java are not all densely populated, there is still a lot of empty land that has not become a residence and there are still many people whose in come is from agriculture or gardening such as the city of Sukabumi, West java.
I tried to walk to the city side of Sukabumi and the distance from the city center is about 2 kilometers by walking along the road. The road in the city although on the side is quite good, it's just not wide enough.
Where the area I passed was full of bamboo trees, bamboo was on the side of the road, in gardens also planted in be side the river. I saw and visited a small hut building in the middle of a garden. There is someone who is quite old, the old many who is in the hut building is working on splitting bamboo to be woven tobe used as a vegetable bean sprouts container.
The old man who is in the hut building is his main job is gardening and looking after the land because the land belongs to other people. They grow crops such as bananas, cassava and other crops, in their spare time, they make moven bamboo handicrafts to be sold to customers who have ordered them.
This woven bamboo maker can produce 20 basket a day, bamboo plants have special properties that cannot be found in other types of plants for example high elastis properties, straigh fiber. The type of bamboo that is widely used for woven crafts is the type of bamboo Tali which has a high level of elasticity and fibers.
Before being made into woven bamboo, it is soaked first so that it is easy to split thinly for one bamboo tree, usually 30 mats can be made, while this gentleman's ability can complete about 20 plaited bamboo, be sides making plaited bamboos making plaited bamboo for vegetables bean sprouts. The also make toy kites using a bamboo frame made of small diameter.
