Home Education Curation Collection. 11th September 2022

Thank you for joining us for the collection. It's been another busy week in the community. Sadly, I have had to mute a couple of posts that didn't fit the theme of the community. So a reminder if you're new and aren't sure what we're about here, this is a community focused on those who educate their children at home rather than school. General parenting posts can go in the Motherhood community and those that are traditional school focused and don't contain anything useful for educating at home can go in the Education community. You don't have to be homeschooling to post here, just remember to keep posts helpful to homeschoolers.

As our children's guides on their educational journey we sometimes need to do a bit of learning ourselves. This week @ingridontheroad covered some useful things to think about when helping our students/children to develop their maths skills. She shares some useful resources and highlights how important foundations, connecting with real world applications and even enjoyment are.



I like a project that has multiple processes whereby children can get involved. @eumelysm shares a fine motor skills building project that can be made by the child themselves, giving a variety of different motor skill building opportunities along the way.



Play incorporates development and literacy in @cirangela's post on coloured rice for textural play. I love the alphabet stencil and other methods for forming shapes and generally experimenting with this medium.



I can just imagine myself playing with @josief27's interactive booklet for forming and learning words! It's a real hands on technique for literacy where they can learn not only letter and word recognition, but about letter sounds and pronunciation, with some input.



@virgilio07's post caught my eye this week with his attractive visual use of letters to form words. What struck me was how it can be used not just for your own mother tongue, but for teaching another language too.
