As an accountant in the public sector,Local Government level to be precise, my dream has always been the position of the Director of finance.

In Local Governments/Local Councils, Lagos State Nigeria, there are over 3500 Accountants, Chartered or non-chartered, and there could only be 57 Directors of Finance.

The reason why there could only be 57 Director of Finance is because, in Lagos Nigeria, there are just 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas, and as a result, the position of the Director of Finance is limited to 57 persons and has become the dream of every Accountant.

Not because the position is very juicy, but because the position comes with lots of amazing opportunities, such as having access to the Governor of a State, traveling to different Countries for seminars, workshops, or training, standard official vehicles, and lots more.

To be qualified for the position of Director of Finance, you have to be a member of professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants(ACCA) to mention few.

To be part of the professional bodies mentioned above, I have to get registered, make payment for study packs and lectures, and as well as making payment for examinations for a series of stages.

So, since my dream is stated and I have put up strategic plans to achieve the stated objective/dream, the next line of action is to do the needful.

The following is the cost implications of being a Student member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN):-

*Registration - about 15 HBD
*Exception - about 81 HBD
*Lectures - about 54 HBD
*Examinations - about 70 HBD

  • Total = 220 HBD

In conclusion, objective is set and strategic plans to achieve the stated plans have been drawn, I wish myself the best of luck.

Hey!!! Glad you meet you, I'm an accountant as well, working in a private company,
So they need all these professional certificates to be eligible for the position, wow these are much and it costs lots of money

Professional examinations are very expensive, involved, and very standard, you just have to keep writing until you pass all, the lord is our strength dear.
