DIY projects gone wrong
Did not have time to write about it yesterday, but I will cover today, both siblings and DIY projects gone wrong, as they go hand in hand in my family.
DIY projects gone wrong, wow, how do I even begin. For once, I can think of my brother doing a shoe rack, and all good and nice, until he brought it into the house. Guess what, the garden space where he did his work was inclined, so while it was straight outside, once he brought it to the house is was a bit inclined, like the Tower of Pisa.
Using an old door and some wood pallets to make a garden bench. Well, this was technically fine, until it broke, as 3 people waiting more than 100kg each sat on it, and the door gave up. All of them upside down, Boom.
And the best of, it is the story of how we find that there is a special tool that can detect electricity cables in the walls, and why we need to use it. Something innocent like putting a nail into the wall, combined with a slight chance of hitting the electrical cable straight in the middle, led to a short that took the electricity off the whole street. Nobody was hurt, only some slight explosion from inside the wall, blackening the hole, and nothing else.
That being said, my parents and grandparents could repair anything that was needed, more or less, they could do fences, and houses even. As for my brother and I, we can do small tasks like changing a light bulb, repairing a sink or a toilet, can even checking and sorting out a door lock if needed. At home. At work apparently, we need to call the maintenance guy, even for a broken lightbulb, as we are not properly trained. But then, this is life in UK!
All the best,
George
