Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 28:19-22

Today's reading

That does it for Chapter 29! That is a lot of Hebrew read if you have been following along and learning with me.

Jacob woke from his sleep and pondered the message from God last week. Today, he names the place Bethel (Beyt El: The house of God). And he makes a vow saying he would give a tenth of all that God gives him because he believed the promises in his dream.

English

He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then YHVH shall be my God, and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you."

The story continues with how wells worked back then...

So, do you think this "El" God - YVHV is in fact the God of Creation or- perhaps - an alien entity that showed up here on earth and created an alien hominid hybrid - which is human? Otherwise how could it be accounted for YVHV acting like an alcoholic father in the way He treats His children? Being that my mother is Jewish, I feel that I have the right to ask this question of you... it's simply something I struggle with and this is not meant as an insult to you or your faith - it is meant to open a dialogue so that I might gain some insight.

Yes, He is the God of Creation and since he was not born on earth, I guess he would be an alien. God lays out instructions for people to follow and when they do not follow them, bad things can happen. You cannot say that he did not try to tell us how to avoid pitfalls.
I had an alcoholic father and I do not see any similarities between him and YHVH.
