Chinese New Year Celebration has begun!
Today is actually Chinese New Year Eve but it felt like the first day of Chinese New Year to me because my husband's family has decided to eat out for reunion lunch this year to avoid the usual CNY dinner crowd.
So my mum-in-law and I surveyed this restaurant named Keong Kee near our area and went to taste their food. We have placed booking for the last room with 2 tables.
Today is the reunion day to see relatives whom we haven't seen for long!
Lunch was booked at 12pm for 16 pax. Let me show you how this restaurant looks like. We have eaten at this same venue before this but now it has changed ownership to become a seafood restaurant with live seafood and has gone through renovation nicely.
The entrance was also nicely decorated to have the Chinese New Year touch.
After everyone has arrived, we started our first dish with lou sang that has soft shell crab in it. Lou sang is a tradition that some Chinese restaurants prepare for us to toss the ingredients as high as we can as we speak good wishes to each other. The higher and messier it gets, the better!
The second dish was my utmost favorite- chicken soup with cordyceps flowers and mushroom. So nourishing and refreshing to my soup as I am a soup person.
Third dish was a fish dish - steamed King Grouper with soy sauce.
Next was herbal boiled live tiger prawns. The prawns were really fresh and were boiled in some white wine as well as herbs. Nice! Everyone was trying to be courteous to peel the prawns with fork and spoon before some gave up and started using hands instead hahaha.
After that, the next dished served was Taiwanese style fried baby sea cucumber with some bell peppers.
Followed by fish maw, abalone, wild mushrooms all stir-fried with some broccoli.
Next up is the Hong Kong Style waxed meat rice. I didn't try this at all as I was already quite full and I don't fancy rice so much.
Last but not least, desserts!!! They served their signature cold coconut jelly with the coconut milk and some Chinese pastry. These were delicious and refreshing after all the other food.
While everyone were busy eating, my youngest son kept dragging me out to see the live sea creatures which were really quite impressive. He dragged me out for about 5 times! Oh my goodness. Well, he wanted to say hi to all the sea creatures especially the fishes. 🤣
I am impressed by their washrooms which was nicely renovated and also the comfort of their VIP rooms to host us especially for my young son to run about.
I always appreciate clean toilets hehe.
See how happy my sunshine boy was at the end of the gathering.
That is all for our first round before we have a second round at night!
Group photo with the whole clan!
And then he..... KO!
Here is us from my little family wishing everyone a blessed and prosperous Chinese New Year to all who are celebrating this occasion! Good health and strength be our portion!
Usually I will forget to take photo of my outfit but since my youngest son was still napping today, I quickly asked the husband to snap a photo of me!
