A Parcel Filled with Love ❤️ 📦
What happened was I was supposed to go home to Kuching, Sarawak which is another side of Malaysia but due to being really close contact to a covid-positive friend, we decided not to endanger my parents and we actually aborted the plan less than 30 hours from my flight time. That will be the second part of my post today.
First part is..... MY PARCEL FILLED WITH LOVE WHICH WAS FLOWN OVER THE SEA
I was actually quite devastated not being able to go back as I have planned this trip since last year after not seeing my family for 2 years. Nevertheless, as I was finding out from a friend what I could do to try to get refund or minimise the loss of the air tickets which cost us about MYR1500 for 4 of us. Surprisingly, I found out that this friend is flying back from my hometown to Kuala Lumpur where I am at. He offered to help me bring some tidbits which my mum had prepared beforehand for me in view of my return.
Told my youngest sister and mum about it and then see what they packed finally. 2kg worth of goodies!! Many of these are my favorite or something I by pass mentioned to them over the phone or video calls.
So what are my treasures that were sent to me?
There is this most important delicacy that I crave every Chinese New Year and we call it kuih momo! It is a cookie made of flour, ghee and milk powder. I used to make it myaelf last year but thinking I will be back to a place with abundance of it, I did not prepare to make it this year. My mum sent me 2 cans of it! Happiness!
Next, my mum sent me a variety of ingredients to cook soup to nourish our bodies as well as to strengthen our immune system. A mother will always be a mother. Here are some red dates, dried mushroom and Chinese herbs.
She also sent me this acar timun Sarawak. It is pickled cucumber with some shredded carrots. SUPER DELICIOUS TO BE SERVED ON PRAWN CRACKERS. I could not find the authentic taste over this side of Malaysia so yes she has to send it to me too!
Other than that, she sent me a type of longish dried prawn that we love to fry with long beans. This, she travelled back to her hometown to purposely get it for me. Oh my.
There is also this type of sugar pieces which she thinks I cannot get it over here when I want to use it as a filling to my glutinous rice balls. Of course it has to come along too. Hahahahah.
I miss my family so much!!!
I used to wish how nice if I could drive home to my fanily and need not fly. But there is a huge South China Sea separating us. Some time last week, I suddenly checked my airline credit account and realised they have credited the whole amount into my credit balance. They allow me to use the amount within 2 years, Hallelujah! This was a really close one and I thought they will not refund my departing tickets as we have exceeded the time to change our flight which is supposedly 48 hours prior to the flight time. But wow what a favour received!
Here I am, snacking and planning my next trip HOME!
This is really good!!!
The love of a mother crosses the sea and can reach beyond thousands of miles away. I need and must and want to go home to my family!!
