Regular Health Check-Ups!! | Random Chamber Talk | Mar 06, 2025

(Edited)

The first patient was in his early 30s! He recently developed a bit of uncommon symptoms. He feels severe burning pain in his inner thighs, buttocks, private areas, etc; above the knee but below the belly button level! There were no skin lesions in the area. He also didn't have typical pain. He had no significant history of accidents.

On check-up, his HbA1c (one of the tests for Diabetes mellitus) was found at 8.8%! It's pretty high, indicating that his diabetes wasn't new—it's been there for a pretty long time! One of the complications of DM is peripheral neuropathy, which may present with burning pain or numbness. Our initial diagnosis was DM neuropathy! If he had done a sugar test before, DM would have been diagnosed and managed from the beginning! Hence, the complication could be prevented!

Another young patient came for left upper back pain. A few months before, he came to know that his fasting blood sugar was beyond the normal limit. He wanted to repeat the test. He also wanted to check his lipid profile and liver enzymes. His fasting blood was still a little bit high. His lipids were also somewhat abnormal. However, none of the tests warranted medicines. Lifestyle and food habit modification may bring the results within normal range. He wanted to do that too. As he knows about his current status by doing regular health check-ups, he can take steps to prevent further deterioration.

Regular health check-ups are crucial!

Did the first man not know he had diabetes or did he not tell you he had it?

I have regular check ups with blood work and agree, they are important, but I get aggravated when they can not find what is wrong. I finally got in to see the Vascular Doctor and had the vascular surgeon's PA tell me she has never heard of anyone having what is going on with me and she does not think it is vascular. I have seen a Cardiologist, Neurologist, Neurosurgeon, Vascular, General Practitioner, and my Pain Management Doctor, and none of them know what is causing it. I have had so many tests run and they all show nothing that would cause this. They now want to run an ultrasound on the arteries coming from my heart but she said she would be surprised if that is what it was. This is why I give up on seeing them but I know I need to get it figured out before I have a stroke, I feel lost.

Sorry for dumping all of that on you but maybe you would know what kind of doctor I should see next, the Vascular PA did not say anything to me about who I should see. Thank you

He didn't know that he had diabetes. He presented with such complication, directly.

Vascular surgeon, Cardiologist, Neurologist, Neurosurgeon, Vascular, General Practitioner, and my Pain Management Doctor-All doctors failed to reach the diagnosis!! Rare incident!!!

I feel sorry for you!
