An interesting mini series with highs and low: Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

I think that was one of the Netflix's Halloween releases that I was more excited for. I watched slowly because of lots of things happening in my personal life, during my slow watching I read the fun review from @trumpman which I also recommend if you want to see a second opinion of this mini-series. Why I was excited? I love Guillermo del Toro work, he is a Mexican director/writer, which succeded in the fantasy/horror area, and Pan's Labyrinth is the climax.

It is an interesting mini-series, which each episode is independent, with different stories and different directors! It reminds me a bit of old horror series shows like Tales from the Crypt and The Twilight Zone. It is good to see different stories in a roll. I wish that he can continue with this project, I miss this style of horror production. Anyways, since we have 8 different stories with different directors, of course, that there are episodes that you enjoy more or less. But one thing is clear, it was a nice variety of styles and types of stories for sure. We had two episodes based on H.P. Lovecraft stories, a great horror writer, which usually there is a real monster in there. In addition, the second episode "graveyard rats" was based on the Cthulhu mythology created by H.P. Lovecraft, despite not being written by him.

We had episodes with horrible aliens in a mix of sci-fi and horror, and also a psychedelic horror (episode 7 ). I agree with @trumpman review, the episode "The outside" was the less important episode of all 8. Despite bringing up an interesting debate about how far someone could go to reach beauty. The last episode, with a story written by Guillermo del Toro was also fascinating, it didn't have an ugly and scary monster, but it brought personal ghosts in a hunted house plot, I guess this is the only episode that ended well, with a nice and pretty resolution, in my opinion, the best actress in all the 8 episodes was the main character of this episode, a bird biologist/scientists haunted by the loss of her own child, which was creating problems to her marriage.

If I could choose my preferred story, with a nice plot and scary moments I would choose "Dreams in the Witch House" and " The Autopsy". The first one is about a guy that loses his sister to a disease when he was young and he spends all his life to find a way to reach her in the "other world" in the end he messes up with evil spirits that also want to come back, and the second one is about an autopsy of a possessed body by an evil outside world creature, a very ugly creature by the way

So it is a mini-series that is worth watching for sure you will have more and less favorite episodes, but you must watch them all to have an opinion! Below you can find the trailer.

How someone could lost a sister when he was young, so unfair, I can't even reason how he will feel seeing life like that for him, this is a nice review, it took all of me while reading.
