Introducing The Chicks To The Coop

This weekend I thought it was time to introduce the new chicks to the coop. They have already grown so big in such a short amount of time! The one I’m holding here might be my favorite now. Mainly because she doesn’t throw a fit when I pick her up lol new house pet?

Raising chicks and chickens has become my favorite here on the homestead. They are low maintenance, give such an abundance and are a joy to watch and be around.

The chicks are now in the center part of the coop while the main flock is on the side. This should start to get them a little used to each other until the chicks are larger and can be integrated in with them. I’m not so sure about the white leghorns though they seem to be the most aggressive on the chickens.

Out of all of the chicks I believe I have more roosters than what I thought. It’s still hard to tell as all of them are starting to have their comb come in. The only way I’ve been able to sell so far is because of the shape of some of their wings.

A one step or solid curve of the wing would make it male while a two step curve (you’ll notice it as an indent in the wing is female. It’s one of the easiest ways early on to tell if you have a rooster or not.

I’m still undecided on what I’m going to do with the extra roosters because I can’t have a bunch of roosters running around on the homestead!
