Another Day, another Shift. The Turbine Test Tower.
Our mission here was to take out these things, which we called lovingly cassettes.
The purpose of this entire project was to check the areas behind the cassettes and steel beams for damage to themselves and the concrete on the walls.
The cassettes are noise absorber panels which hang approx 25 m high in a tower. The tower is part for turbine tests.
There are two towers, one where air goes in and another one to let air out. The whole system is a wind channel to run the tests.
To protect ourselves from falling, we attached several ropes, to which we could attach ourselves before the start.
Any damage or rust found was meticulously removed and repaired. Because you don't want anything falling into a running turbine test. The test would come to an immediate end.
In order to complete all of these steps, we had to disassemble some connections on the bottom of the cassettes, take out all the cassettes from the outer row. The steel beam were placed on top of the three other steel beams in the middle.
Then the game was repeated on the level below. First one side then the other as the space for four steel beams is a bit tight.
You have to abseil to get to the lower part of the cassettes.
This is what it looks like between the top and bottom part.
We used the 70-year-old underslung crane to move the cassettes. Each of them weighs about 300 kg.
Handover to the big crane outside.
Second level.
Tricky part.
Another one of many handovers.
Having some fun with the roofers.
Taking out the steel beams.
We used our dexterity, heavy armour and the force.
One of our colleagues needed to pee so badly that he wasn't patient enough with his locking carabiner and uncharacteristically opened it.
On the other side.
What's better, to do some grinding in a fantastic sunrise breeze.
Rust protection and paint.
Et viola! Like new.
I couldn't catch much on the concrete part as I was busy with moving the cassettes and steel beams around.
Also, I didn't stay until the end because I was booked for another job. But everything went very well.
That was a unique job I enjoyed. The colleagues and work was great. I like the insights I get through these jobs and hope for more I can show you.
Thanks for reading!
I hope you enjoyed it 🧗🏼♂️
There are so many cassettes there, it will take ages!
So each cassette weighs 300kg and they all have to be passed out to the crane? 😬
I forgot to write that information. The whole action took us three weeks.
Two days of taking the cassettes out and two days of taking them back in.
Yes, each cassette weighs 300 Kg but not all of them had to be taken out.
There are 4 rows of cassettes. Only the two outer rows had to be taken out to reach the wall. For the two rows in the middle it was enough to push three cassettes together of each end. Same for the second level.
Could I explain it better now? Let me know if I shall explain it in a different way, like, on a photo with drawings. I'm happy to explain 😌
Wow! This was informative and I'm intrigued.
I guess health and safety is of paramount importance for a job like this.
All good wishes:)
Thank you so much 🙏🏽😌💗
Indeed, it is. Otherwise I could not share my experience with you ☝🏽🤓
All good wishes to you!
😊 Thank you 🤗
It was scary just to read about it, let alone be there and do the job. In any case, well done! You're a brave guy.
Brave or insane? It's a thin line between them 😁
Thank you so much... Calling me brave 🙏🏽😌
Have a good one
Lol, you're definitely not wrong there, there's a thin line but you're brave enough to do it, so hats off in front of you 😁 and stay safe!
Thank you ❣️😌
OH my, these pictures really make me dizzy. Respect for you and your co-workers for taking on such dangerous jobs!

Always happy to share some dizziness 😉
Thanks a lot 🙏🏽
Likewise, hope you're doing great ❣️
Haha, yeah you tend to do that, share dizziness :)
But I salute you for doing such work, I mean, someone has to do it!
And yes, actually feeling much better now. Grinding hard and feeling really confident and positive about these new ventures.
Already excited for HiveFest? It's cool that you guys go, you must share some stories here, please :)
Thank you ❣️😌
I am very pleased to hear that you feel better. Blessings to you future ventures 🙏🏽
About HiveFest... Well, things have changed. We won't join this HiveFest. It's too much of financial matters and we are in a further training until end of October (check it out) .
But strongest reason is my mum's 60s bEarthday. Totally forgot about it. Last year was okayish. But not this year.
So, even the HiveFest is fun and would probably push us further to connect more with and get more trust from the community, we'll miss out on it 🥲
