Alameed Me Some Coffee; A Review
There are few better advertisements for coffee than the enthusiasm of a fellow coffee lover. When @Yaziris received an excited text from his niece that she adored the flavor of this particular brand we knew we had to try it too!
As fate would have it, when we needed to buy coffee, it was available in the small store we found ourselves in! Here in Jordan big grocery stores aren't the norm, it's far more common to shop in what I would normally consider to be a corner store. Whereas these shops are a great place to get ripped off on household products in the US, the total opposite is true here.
So, I was surprised and happy to find the exact coffee we wanted in one! The brand offers both the traditional cardamon roasted variety that is popular in the Middle East and also some spice-free beans. Although I like the addition of cardamon, I've gotten a bit burnt out on it.
We decided to go with the company's straight dark roast, as both of us enjoy a strong brew with a pronounced flavor.
I found it distinctive and interesting that the bag was inside this box, although I also felt it was wasteful. The bag already works fine, does it not?
Regardless, it did give it a bit of visible production value, which helps when justifying it's slightly higher price I suppose.
The back of the package gave a brief description of the beans, as well as some general info.
Although preparing coffee on the stove top is just the way it is done in this neck of the woods, I found myself curious how this roast would take shape if it were made inside a french press or drip coffee maker instead.
Regardless of my imagination, a stove-top kettle is what we have.
Let's make coffee!
Much like with cooking, I measure with my heart when it comes to preparing coffee.
I put something like 4-10 teaspoons into the kettle after filling it just below the top lip with water. Before stirring it all the way in, I stopped to snap this pic so you could see some of the fluffy grounds on top. The aroma of this coffee is lovely, very deep and earthy.
As the water heats up, you stir the grounds around to stop them from sinking to the bottom and getting yucky, or worse producing lack luster coffee! Don't ask me if there is a particular method to this little kettle otherwise, I haven't the foggiest idea.
Speaking of which, have you used one of these cute little buggers before? I hadn't until I moved over here, I rather like them! It's quick, efficient, and makes damn good coffee.
Now here is where I tend to totally mess up. As this foamy goodness forms on top, the risk of it all boiling over is HIGH!
If you were to say, stop and take a photo of what this looks like? Woah-ho-ho BUDDY! Yeah, you'd have a big ole mess on your hands. Ooopsy!
In fact, it's probably best to just stir away until you are satisfied with the strength of your coffee and pull that sucker right off the heat.
I've noticed that the coffee is optimal Yazindan strength after it's done the foamy stuff for at least a minute. This tests my attention span, which I consider a kitchen therapy for my ADD riddled brain. Multifaceted!
And your little mugs too! 😈
Another thing that really threw me through a loop in the Middle East coffee wise is the size of the mugs here. I'm American, I like things to be larger than life, it's just the way it's done in the land of hotdogs and bald eagles. The mug I'm used to is the size of a soup bowl, a real unit...
Imagine my surprise when I learned that here you drink coffee by the sip. NO, I am not kidding. These coffee mugs are made for babies, or perhaps people who hate coffee. Is that the same thing?
Either way, they are hella cute, so we use them half the time. After filling up two SIPS of coffee, I snapped this picture and finally got to enjoying it with my love.
Overall, I'd rate this coffee a 10/10! The price isn't bad, the aroma is wonderful, and it kicks like a mule. I think it's safe to say we will buy it again!
Now, this post has made me alameed some coffee, off I go...
I'm not a coffee drinker, but I am happy to get to have a little insight into your new life @grindan xxxx
Wow I am impressed that you can do so many cool things without coffee! As soon as I became a mother I needed several cups a day 😂
Do you drink tea instead, or are you caffeine free?!
💗 xxxx
That coffee looks so good !
I heard a theory about the difference between the way the English & Americans drink coffee, and the way the rest of the world does it. England and America drink tea and coffee primarily for hydration, while the rest of the world uses it as a mild stimulant as well as something to have around when you're being sociable.
Before the Industrial Revolution, water was poison (parasites & diseases), so the English drank loads of beer and were basically permanently drunk. All of us. But then machinery came along, and if you were too drunk you might fall in and lose an arm. So we switched to tea and coffee. By the time the rest of the world industrialised, they'd learned from our mistakes and did sewage systems early in the process !
Woah what a cool comment! I knew about beer being basically the only safe way to consume water in the past, but I never knew coffee/tea were the next phase of that! You've given me a new perspective 😄
For sure coffee is more just social here, and I think that's part of why the cups are so small- you can fill 4-6 of these tiny guys even from the two-cup kettle. It's standard to pour guests coffee when they arrive, and when you'd like them to leave you pour another round LOL!
Too bad we don't have that in the USA, I'm from the Midwest and we just say "Welp..." many times until our guests get the idea 🤣
Thanks for checking out my post and teaching me something! 💚
Lovely story. It makes me wanna have a cup of coffee ... tomorrow !LOLZ
Yes, I am using a two-cup kettle at home. Bought in Sarajevo on Baščaršija. They are famous for their coffee kettles and sets.

Ahahaha not an all-day coffee drinker?
I just googled Baščaršija coffee sets and WOW! They are so ornate and lovely, I can see why they've become renowned for them! It's awesome to hear you're in the two-cup kettle club too 😄
Nope, I try to avoid coffee in afternoon and evening. If it doesn't clashes with social activities, of course :)
Have a great weekend.

Very nice cups you show us, the coffee looks great in them.
When you were talking about coffee on the fire, I remembered what happens with milk.
Milk is very deceptive and when we stopped watching it, it makes a tremendous mess.🤭
Excellent Thursday.☕
Haha I've definitely made some messes steaming milk too... All in all I'd much rather clean up a spilled over kettle!
Thanks for checking out my post 😄
It's so nice to seeing you getting immersed into a new culture. Yeah, corner shops are big in UK and not to mention many of the countries that I've lived in. They are convenient and it's good to support the local community.
Haha! The kettle is cute, indeed!
I've never seen one like it before, but it's the kind of thing we'd use on the boat... anything manual.
You seem to be enjoying Jordan, and I think that everything is smoother since Yaz speaks the language and is used to a similar culture, right?
Now, that's my kinda coffee.
I used to have a coffee cup set like that. My husband called them my egg cups 🤣
On another note: I'm curious to know what you think of the size of ice cream scoops there compared to the US. That was the biggest shocker for me when I went to live in Europe. A single cone in Jamaica is the size of 3 scoops from a normal person or 4 scoops from a heavy-handed server.
I think 'sip' is funny though:)))
It's interesting that corner shops are the place to go in much of the world— maybe it's just the US where they are a giant rip off for anything outside of smokes and beer haha!
I'm not sure I'd like Jordan as much if Yaz were not a native Arabic speaker, outside of tourist areas most people do not speak any English, and my Arabic is terrible at best still. 😂 The culture here has a lot of similarities with Syria, but Jordanians do not have the welcoming and hospitable nature the way Syrians do, which throws Yaz through a loop sometimes.
All in all we've been loving our time here though!
This cracked me up (no egg pun intended) cause I can picture one fitting perfectly into them! 😂
Hmmm, as for the ice cream, now I want to go visit a proper shop to find out! We bought some pre-packaged cones and those were small scoops. It was notable that the ice cream tasted WAY better though! I bet I'd love getting a cone in Jamaica, heavy handed is the right way to do ice cream in my book 😎
I get that! I observed something similar when I was in Bali compared to the Philippines.
🤣
Take as many photos as you can. You might not feel to write about all your experiences at once, but maybe a few months/years down the line, you'd regret not having taken photos.
I've been reading some horror stories about Dubai and unmarried couples, and it looks like Jordan is proving to be a better destination anyhow. I think culturally, it has way more to offer 😍
Those mugs are soooo cute😂😂😂
I haven't used such kettles, but here we pour our ground coffee into a cup then pour piping hot water and stir....
I doubt you'd see a good working coffee maker as a household appliance in my country....
Well unless the owners are collectors or effing rich!
Where are you from Seki? I feel like I know, but I also don't LOL
By ground coffee do you mean from beans or instant coffee? I've been drinking some instant coffee here, which is odd for me... But I get to lazy to use the kettle for all of my 17 cups of coffee a day 🤣
And meh, real coffee makers are over-rated I think now... That's the standard in the US, but I have to say the coffee tastes much better like this!
This thought often crosses my mind!
The little mugs are cute and what you say about them is so funny 😁 I guess that mugs must be little if your coffee is strong and of intense flavor. The whole thing is kind of charming 😍 The magic of Turkish coffee...
Hope you make friends with the mule 🤭😂
Hehe Hey there my lovely friend 🤗
The mule is treating me well, although I am enjoying it in larger mugs the last few days to help stay warm... I thought being over here would mean skipping winter, nope!
Turkish coffee really is magic, in general the coffee here is so much stronger than what I'm used to... I'm ruined for when I visit the states again lol!
Thanks for the smiles 💗
a community encouraging first-hand content, and each individual living their best life.
Among all the things that caught my attention was the teapot with which you prepared the coffee.
Opening up to new cultures is always wonderful. It gives a greater perception of everything. Coffee will always be a means of connection.
I couldn't agree more! My love for coffee has taken me to some pretty cool places here, and allowed me to understand the culture in new lights 💗
The love of coffee transcends nationality and language in the coolest ways ☕️
