[ENG/ESP] Val Bormida a valley between mountains, sunsets and enchanting chestnut forests.
In Italy there are many valleys, surrounded by mountains with spectacular forests of conifers, pines, cedars and other alpine and Mediterranean vegetation.
To celebrate my 200th post in #HIVE I want to share with all the users of this travel community my experiences lived in the Italian peninsula for five years in the mountain community of Val Bormida, between 2001 and 2005, in the midst of a spectacular natural environment totally unspoiled and surrounded by forests of chestnut trees, in this case.
At the foot of these plants grow countless mushrooms, but one of the most appreciated are the so-called "porcini" for their delicate aroma, their exquisite fragrance in meals and the real adventure that means to go out in search of them, a true passion that has its maximum expression in the area in early autumn, including the organization of festivals (sagras) that have them as main components along with other artisanal products typical of the area.
The Bormida Valley, made up of 19 municipalities with mountainous characteristics, is just a few minutes from the Ligurian Sea, which is part of the Mediterranean Sea, and from the rolling hills of Piedmont.
It is a valley made up of extensive forests, not too high alpine peaks such as all those that form the chain of the Apennine Mountains, together with an extremely valuable fauna and flora.
All this natural scenery, wonderful and unspoiled, inextricably intertwined with the action of man and the passage of time over the centuries that has shaped a landscape perfectly integrated with the action of man expressed in an admirable synthesis formed by all the mountain villages, some with medieval vestiges, which are part of the region.
These photos correspond to the woods surrounding the municipality of Pallare, a mountain village located in the hinterland of the province of Savona, which is crossed by the main branch of the Bormida river that gives its name to the whole valley.
It is surrounded by a mountain range, of low altitude, surrounded by green, undulating and wooded ridges, with intermediate valleys absolutely inaccessible to human transit other than walking or trekking if possible oriented with the help of guides of the region.
Getting lost gathering mushrooms in these forests with medium height trees that form a thick canopy making visibility difficult is not uncommon. It happened to me once so I speak from my own experience.
It is an environment that invites pleasant excursions on foot, horseback or mountain bike, when the conditions and the environment allow it, and offer the refreshment of fresh and healthy spring water that comes down from the mountains and is omnipresent at every step.
There are even plastic spouts coming down from the top of the hills positioned at regular intervals with taps so that tourists or hikers can get the water they need to quench their thirst.
All this part of the Bormida Valley preserves intact its ancient charm of "border" town, between Liguria and Piedmont.
In fact, for its characteristics it is closer to Piedmont than to Liguria, to which it belongs.
Of particular note is the so-called "Passo del Melogno", near which is still preserved an anti-aircraft bunker from the Second World War. Surrounded by a constant mist due to the altitude, fascinating, mysterious object of ancient legends, it descends steeply to the sea.
