The Unforgivable | My impressions and review of the film

Hello, hello, my dear ones, I was anxious to write my impressions of the movie I'm going to review today, it's been a while since I've felt so shocked and moved by a story. Last Friday while I was talking with the guys of the team, the recommendation to watch the new movie starring Sandra Bullock that had just been released on Netflix that same day came up. Although it was already quite late, I decided to watch it at the risk of falling asleep, but it was impossible to fall asleep with The Unforgivable, the plot is so captivating that keeps you engaged to the screen at all times.

Hola, hola, mis estimados, estaba ansiosa por escribir mis impresiones de la película que hoy les voy a reseñar, hacía rato que no me sentía tan impactada y conmovida con una historia. El pasado viernes mientras conversaba con los chicos del team surgió la recomendación de ver la nueva película protagonizada por Sandra Bullock que acababan de publicar en Netflix ese mismo día. Aunque ya era bastante tarde, me decidí verla a riesgo de quedarme dormida, pero que va, imposible quedarse dormida con Imperdonable, la trama es tan cautivadora que te mantiene atada a la pantalla en todo momento.

Blindly and without even reading the synopsis I decided to see The Unforgivable just because it was Sandra Bullock, it is the truth, there are movies that hook me in the first instance by the cast rather than by the story per se, this has caused me some disappointments, but this is not the case this time, here we will see a story that seemed complete to honor the talent of this woman who I did not see on the screen since Bird Box. By the way, Viola Davis, another of my favorite actresses, is also part of the cast.

A ciegas y sin ni siquiera leer previamente la sinopsis me decidí a ver Imperdonable solo por tratarse de Sandra Bullock, es la verdad, hay películas que me enganchan en primera instancia por el elenco antes que por la historia per se, esto me ha ocasionado algunas decepciones, pero no es el caso en esta oportunidad, aquí vamos a ver una historia que me pareció redondita para rendir honor al talentazo de esta mujer a la que no veía en pantalla desde Bird Box. Por cierto, que también forma para del elenco Viola Davis, otra de mis actrices favoritas.

The Unforgivable is a dramatic film, which I understand is based on a British series on which I can not comment because I have not seen it, therefore, I do not know the fidelity in the adaptation of the original script, I will limit myself to comment on my impressions based strictly on what I enjoyed while watching it. Ruth (Sandra Bullock) is a convict who, after having spent 20 years in prison on a murder charge, is released under a special regime to be incorporated into society, this regime establishes, among other things, not to try to establish contact with the victim's relatives, nor with other members of her past.

Imperdonable es una película de corte dramático, que entiendo está basada en una serie británica de la que no puedo emitir ningún comentario porque no la he visto, por ende, desconozco la fidelidad en la adaptación del guión, me limitaré a comentarles mis impresiones estrictamente apegada a lo que disfruté mientras la veía. Ruth (Sandra Bullock) es una convicta que tras haber pasado 20 años en la cárcel acusada de homicidio, sale bajo régimen especial para incorporarse a la sociedad, dicho régimen establece entre otras cosas no intentar establecer contacto con familiares de la víctima, ni con otros miembros de su pasado.

However, Ruth is deeply tormented to know the fate of her little sister, whom she has not heard from since she was incarcerated 20 years ago. To this end, she seeks the help of a family lawyer to serve as an intermediary in the process without causing a breach of the special clauses of her parole. Along the way, her plans will suffer the consequences of a past she refuses to forget and, above all, to forgive.

Sin embargo, Ruth vive profundamente atormentada por conocer el destino de su pequeña hermana de la no ha sabido desde que fue encarcelada hace 20 años, para ello busca la ayuda de un abogado de familia que sirva de intermediario en el proceso sin que eso ocasione incumplimiento de las cláusulas especiales de su libertad condicional. En el camino, sus planes sufrirán las consecuencias de un pasado que se niega a olvidar y sobre todo a perdonar.

A somber setting is a scenario in which the plot develops, a woman visibly wounded by time and circumstances, with a lost look, whose face only transmits suffering. Something that is not exactly innovative in films of this type, it is usually part of that which gradually takes us into that something we expect to happen and impact, and although probably the expected impact is another, the twist that gives the story at a certain point gives identity to the film, which I particularly loved.

Una ambientación sombría es el escenario en el que se desarrolla la trama, una mujer visiblemente golpeada por el tiempo y las circunstancias, de mirada perdida, cuyo rostro solo transmite sufrimiento. Algo que no es precisamente innovador en películas de este tipo, normalmente es parte de eso que nos va adentrando poco a poco a ese algo que esperemos que ocurra e impacte, y aunque probablemente el impacto que se espera sea otro, el giro que da la historia en un momento determinado le imprime identidad a la película, lo que particularmente me encantó.

From that point of climax when you say "what?", it was impossible for me not to empathize with Ruth's suffering, the following scenes are accompanied by a soundtrack that appeals precisely to sensitize us and touch our most human emotions. I didn't cry, honestly, I didn't cry, but it did touch my heart and even made a little knot in my throat. It is a story of true love that perhaps not everyone understands, at this point I would love to say a lot, but the risk of suggested spoilers is high.

A partir de ese punto de clímax en el que dices "¿qué?", me fue imposible no empatizar con el sufrimiento de Ruth, las siguientes escenas van acompañadas de una banda sonora que apela precisamente a sensibilizarnos y tocar nuestras emociones más humanas. No lloré, sinceramente no lloré, pero sí me tocó el corazón y hasta se me hizo un pequeño nudo en la garganta. Es una historia de amor verdadero que quizás no todo el mundo entienda, a estas alturas me encantaría decir mucho, pero el riesgo de spoilers sugeridos es alto.

Surely there will be conflicting opinions among critics of the genre, as I always say they are opinions that should be respected because they are the result of the individual impressions of each person. I particularly liked the film, the story caught me, her story, Ruth's story, because in the film there are parallel stories whose affliction has her as the epicenter, this at some point seems not to fit or to be too much in the plot, but well, it is part of it. Now, Ruth's own story, in which the real reason for her torment and the real reason for the actions of her past becomes evident, was really touching for me.

Seguramente habrá opiniones encontradas entre los críticos del género, como siempre digo son opiniones que deben ser respetadas pues son el resultado de las impresiones individuales de cada quien. A mi en lo particular me gustó la película, la historia me atrapó, ojo la de ella, la de Ruth, porque en la película hay historias paralelas cuya aflicción la tienen a ella como epicentro, esto en algún momento pareciera o no encajar o estar demás en la trama, pero bueno, forma parte. Ahora bien, la historia propia de Ruth, en la que se evidencia la verdadera razón de su tormento y el motivo real de las acciones de su pasado, me resultó realmente conmovedor.

I loved enjoying Sandra Bullock's talent again, maybe it's not her most masterful performance considering her career, but it's a great work just the same, she's still one of my favorite actresses forever. Of course I would recommend it, without hesitation, it is one of those movies that you want to discuss with other people, aware that some will be in favor and others against, but it generates precisely that, the need to comment and criticize it. I appreciate that is a movie, always.

Me encantó volver a disfrutar el talento de Sandra Bullock, tal vez no es su actuación más magistral considerando su trayectoria, pero es un gran trabajo igual, sigue siendo de mis actrices favoritas forever. Por supuesto que la recomendaría, sin dudar, es de esas películas que deseas discutir con otras personas, consciente que algunos estarán a favor y otros en contra, pero genera eso precisamente, la necesidad de comentarla y criticarla. Aprecio eso es una película, siempre.
