Jingle All the Way, another classic Christmas movie.

Hello, hello, my dear cinephiles.

Although it was not in my plans to spend these days reading, watching movies and series, it was time, so I have taken the opportunity to catch up with many works that I had pending, and also to review those that are a classic of these dates, on Christmas Eve it would be unforgivable not to remember the classics, especially when they have made us run against the clock so that the long-awaited Christmas gift is just in time under the tree.

Aunque no estaba en mis planes dedicar estos días a leer, ver películas y series, pues tocó, así que he aprovechado ponerme al día con muchas obras que tenía pendiente, y también para repasar aquellas que son un clásico de estas fechas, en víspera de nochebuena sería imperdonable no rememorar los clásicos de siempre, sobre todo cuando estos nos han puesto a correr a contrarreloj para que el tan esperado regalo de navidad esté justo a tiempo debajo del árbol.

On a day like today, several years ago, back in 1996, Howard Langston played by Arnold Schwarzenegger got on everyone's nerves, because he promised a special Christmas gift for his son, but got caught up in the multiple responsibilities of his job and forgot to buy the gift on time. That wouldn't be a problem in a city full of toy stores unless the gift was the most coveted doll of all children for Christmas, the superhero Turbo Man.

Un día como hoy, hace varios años atrás, por allá por 1996, Howard Langston interpretado por Arnold Schwarzenegger nos puso a todos los nervios de punta, porque prometió un regalo especial de navidad para su hijo, pero se dejó consumir por las múltiples responsabilidades de su trabajo y olvidó comprar el regalo a tiempo. Eso no sería problema en una ciudad llena de jugueterías, a menos que el regalo se tratase del muñeco más anhelado por todos los niños para navidad, el super héroe Turbo Man.

Unfortunately, Howard not only forgot to get the promised gift for his little son but also assured his wife that he already had it in his possession, that he had everything under control. Pious lies to justify an oversight that could ruin a child's Christmas illusion, especially when dad has been known for constantly failing to keep his promises. But Howard is not the only dad who needs at all costs to get a Turbo Man doll, so he will have to fight for the only one available in the store, negotiate behind the scenes a fraudulent purchase, compete in raffles and contests, all in order to get the doll. Although initially, the quest for Turbo Man was nothing more than a compromise, it soon becomes an obsession for Howard, as he does not want a disappointment at Christmas for little Jamie (his son) to cause him future frustrations that will make him a failed and unhappy man in the future.

Lamentablemente Howard no solo olvidó ir por el regalo prometido para su pequeño hijo, sino que le aseguró a su esposa que ya lo tenía en su poder, que tenía todo bajo control. Mentiras piadosas para justificar un descuido que podría arruinar la ilusión de un niño en navidad, más cuando papá se ha caracterizado precisamente por faltar constantemente a sus promesas. Pero Howard no es el único papá que necesita a toda costa conseguir un muñeco de Turbo Man, por lo que tendrá que pelearse por el único disponible en la tienda, negociar tras bastidores una compra fraudulenta, competir en rifas y concursos, todo con tal de conseguir hacerse con el muñeco. Aunque inicialmente la búsqueda por el Turbo Man no era más que un compromiso, pronto se convierte en una obsesión para Howard, pues no quiere que una decepción en navidad para el pequeño Jamie (su hijo) le puede ocasionar frustraciones futuras que lo conviertan en un hombre fracasado y desdichado en el futuro.

After undertaking several desperate and not at all audacious actions to get a Turbo Man for Jamie, the tormented father decides to attend the Christmas parade that he knows his little son will attend, fortuitously he is mistaken for the actor who will play the great Turbo Man who would also have the opportunity to give a doll to a child in the parade, however, as I already mentioned, he was not the only father willing to do anything to deliver the promised gift to his son, which triggers a whole show for the audience in which reality and spectacle intersect.

Tras emprender varias acciones desesperadas y nada audaces para conseguir un Turbo Man para Jamie, el atormentado padre decide asistir al desfile de navidad al que sabe asistirá su pequeño hijo, fortuitamente es confundido con el actor que interpretará al gran Turbo Man quien además tendría la oportunidad de obsequiar un muñeco a un niño en el desfile, la oportunidad de oro para cumplir su cometido, sin embargo, como ya les mencioné no era el único padre dispuesto a todo por entregar el regalo prometido a su hijo, lo que desencadena todo un show para el público en el que se cruza la realidad y el espectáculo.

After the crazy adventures of his father, Jamie discovers something that has much more value than a simple doll, he discovers his father being the superhero he wanted so much, so in his generous heart, he decides that another child will receive a Turbo Man as a gift that night.

Después de las alocadas aventuras de su padre, Jamie descubre algo que tiene mucho más valor que en un simple muñeco, descubre a su padre siendo el superhéroe que el tanto deseaba, por lo que en su generoso corazón decide que sea otro niño quien esa noche reciba un Turbo Man como regalo.

I have seen and enjoyed this movie many times, I still find it beautiful, at a time when an actor like Arnold Schwarzenegger represented the rudeness of cinema for his action roles, having enjoyed this different facet was pleasing. In addition, the final message is really touching, a child who despite the desire he had for a toy decides to give that moment of happiness to another child because he simply got a gift of true value that transcends the material.

Esta película la he visto y disfrutado muchísimas veces, me sigue pareciendo hermosa, en una época en la que un actor como Arnold Schwarzenegger representaba la rudeza del cine por sus papeles de acción, haber disfrutado de esta faceta tan diferente fue grato. Además, el mensaje final es realmente emotivo, un niño que a pesar del deseo que tenía por un juguete decide ceder ese momento de felicidad a otro niño porque sencillamente él consiguió un obsequio de verdadero valor que trasciende a lo material.

Right now I can think of many Howard wanting to beat time to make their children happy this Christmas Eve, overcoming all kinds of obstacles in order to give smiles and illusion to their little ones; however, there are gifts that are neither bought nor sold, those that are born from the heart, that are translated into love and dedication, those that leave an indelible mark on our loved ones.

Ahora mismo se me ocurre pensar en muchos Howard queriendo ganarle al tiempo para hacer felices a sus hijos esta nochebuena, sorteando obstáculos de todo tipo con tal de obsequiar sonrisas e ilusión a sus pequeños; sin embargo, hay regalos que ni se compran ni se venden, son esos que nacen del corazón, que se traducen en amor y entrega, esos que dejan una huella imborrable en nuestros seres queridos.

I doubt that 25 years after the premiere of this film some of you have not seen it, but if that is the case, it is a good time to enjoy it with the family in the quiet and warmth of home. Jingle All the Way represents one of those classics that we see over and over again this holiday season, whose story is enjoyed and appreciated.

Dudo que 25 años después del estreno de esta película algunos no la hayan visto, pero si fuese el caso, es propicia la fecha para disfrutarla en familia desde la tranquilidad y el calor del hogar. El Regalo Prometido, representa uno de esos tanto clásicos que vemos una y otra vez en esta fechas festivas, cuya historia se disfruta y se agradece.
