Saludos a todos los que disfrutan de esta linda comunidad dedicada a las mascotas. Muchas veces conocemos animales que sin ser nuestras mascotas se convierten en nuestros amigos por compartir con ellos todos o casi todos los días. Me ha pasado muchas veces con los gatos que han estado en los edificios donde he vivido y con perros de lugares que visito con frecuencia.

Greetings to all who enjoy this beautiful community dedicated to pets. Many times we meet animals that without being our pets become our friends by sharing with them every or almost every day. It has happened to me many times with the cats that have been in the buildings where I have lived and with dogs in places that I visit frequently.

Uno de esos animales especiales fue Gardel, un gato negro que era de la tienda de unos chinos y que casi todos los días venía a mi edificio a dormir, pasear, comer o a cantarle románticas canciones gatunas a las gatas enamoradas de la vecindad. Era el galán de la cuadra. Aquí su historia.

One of those special animals was Gardel, a black cat that was from a Chinese shop and that almost every day came to my building to sleep, walk, eat or sing romantic cat songs to the lady cats in love in the neighborhood. He was the hunk of the block. Here his story.

En mi edificio sólo está una gata que se llama Negrita, Gardel venía casi todos los días a estar un rato con ella, a veces se acostaban a dormir juntos en la sombra y otras simplemente se sentaban uno al lado del otro sobre el muro haciéndose compañía. Cuando venía en las tardes siempre se quedaba hasta las 6 porque sabía que le bajaría su ración de comida.

In my building there is only one cat called Negrita, Gardel came almost every day to spend a while with her, sometimes they went to sleep together in the shade and other times they just sat next to each other on the wall keeping company. When he came in the afternoon, he always stayed until 6 pm because he knew that I had a food ration for him.

Cuando alguna de las gatas del vecindario estaba en celo Gardel regresaba en las madrugadas a cantarles y a enamorarlas. Si aparecía algún otro gato a tratar de conquistar a alguna de sus novias, Gardel se encargaba de correrlo y de que manera jajaja. Del resto era un gato muy tranquilo.

When one of the neighborhood cats was in heat, Gardel returned at dawn to sing to them and make them fall in love. If any other cat appeared to try to conquer one of his girlfriends, Gardel was in charge of taking him away from there and he wasn't nice hahaha. From the rest he was a very calm cat.

Después que los chinos se mudaron de local Gardel se quedó viviendo en el centro comercial donde estaba la tienda anterior, en las mañanas salía a la calle, le daba la vuelta a la cuadra, llegaba a mi edificio y entraba por el portón del estacionamiento, se quedaba un rato y luego se iba, en las tardes regresaba al edificio por la parte de atrás que está conectada con el patio trasero del centro comercial.

After the Chinese moved to another place, Gardel stayed living in the shopping center where the previous store was. In the mornings he went out into the street, go around the block, arrive at my building and enter through the parking gate, he stayed for a while and then leave, in the afternoons he returned to my building from the back that is next to the shopping center's backyard.

Desde hace unos meses estaba planificando castrarlo en una de las jornadas a bajo costo que se hacen mensualmente en la ciudad, ya había podido ahorrar el dinero y como él se dejaba agarrar no habría ningún problema. Castrarlo lo ayudaría a estar más tranquilo y a no buscarle pelea a otros gatos.

I was planning to castrate him in one of the low-cost sterilization days that are held monthly in the city, I had already been able to save the money. Neutering him would help him be calmer and not pick a fight with other cats.

Tres semanas antes de la jornada no vino ningún día a comer, no me preocupé mucho porque él a veces solía pasar días sin venir al edificio. La semana siguiente tampoco vino, casualmente una vecina me comentó que la encargada del centro comercial le había preguntado si había visto al gato porque tenía días que no lo veía. Ahí sí me empecé a preocupar.

Three weeks before the sterilization day he didn't come to eat any day, I didn't worry much because he used to spend days without coming to the building. The following week he didn't come either, coincidentally a neighbor told me that the janitor of the shopping center had asked her if she had seen the cat because she hadn't seen him for days. That's when I started to worry.

Gardel siempre tenía una actitud muy zen, como un rastafari jejeje ✌️ / Gardel always had a very zen attitude, like a Rastafarian hehehe ✌️

Así fueron pasando los días y me resigné a que ya no aparecería más. Prefiero no pensar en qué pudo haberle pasado o pensar que alguien lo adoptó y ahora está mejor 😔. Extrañaré esos hermosos ojos dorados y la manera como me miraba cuando le hablaba, extrañaré verlo haciéndole compañía a Negrita y esperarme en la puerta del estacionamiento 🥺😥☹️.

This is how the days went by and I resigned myself to the fact that he would no longer appear. I prefer not to think about what could have happened to him or to think that someone adopted him and now he is better 😔. I will miss those beautiful golden eyes and the way he looked at me when I spoke to him, I will miss seeing him keeping Negrita company and waiting for me at the parking gate 🥺😥☹️.

Puede que Gardel ya no esté en el vecindario pero aquí sigue su querida amiga Negrita y sus dos hijos, Tommy y Xica. Quiero esterilizar a los tres así que para poder reunir el dinero estaré haciendo varias publicaciones de ellos.

Gardel may not be in the neighborhood anymore, but his dear friend Negrita and his two children, Tommy and Xica, are still here. I want to sterilize all three so in order to raise the money I will be doing several posts about them.

Lamentablemente, la mayoría de los gatos que andan por la calles, incluyendo a los que tienen un lugar donde se quedan, terminan atropellados, envenenados, heridos o atacados por perros que también están en la calle. Eso es algo que me entristece mucho y siempre que puedo trato de hablarle a las personas sobre la tenencia responsable de mascotas. Bueno amigos, gracias por su tiempo y apoyo y recuerden ser amables con los animales.

Unfortunately, most stray cats, including those with a place to stay, end up being run over, poisoned, injured, or attacked by stray dogs. That is something that makes me very sad and whenever I can I try to talk to people about responsible pet ownership.
