A Plague Tale: Innocence - Better than it seems as first? [Let's Play Games #91]

plague.jpg

Hello gamers! What are you playing these days? Any cool discoveries? πŸ˜ƒ

Even though it's been a while since I completed the game I'll write about today, I still have all the gameplay fresh in my mind because I loved playing it and I honestly look forward to see being released the next one!

If things are not clear already, I'm talking about A Plague Tale: Innocence which will have a continuation entitled A Plague Tale: Requiem that is already on the Steam market indicating that it will be released in October, but if you don't want to miss a chance when it will come out, there is already a pre-purchase button for it.

Honestly, I don't know if there will be too much of a connection between the two and if for example, it's mandatory to complete the first one in order to understand the whole action, but even if it won't be needed I still recommend playing A Plague Tale: Innocence because from my own experience it was totally worth it, coming with a whole package including stunning graphics, cool soundtracks, nice story, and lots of emotions you are going to feel.

What seems to start with a normal journey taken in the woods with Amicia's young brother, father and dog, quickly turns into a disaster when a not-so-common event occurs seeing a bunch of rats attacking the animal and even taking it into the underground world.

I've never been a fan of revealing spoilers and that's why I try to avoid doing so in both my game and movie reviews, but it's not a surprise anymore that you will see plenty of rats at every step of the game, these being part of the official logo and featured image too.

Anyway, I won't lie saying that it's a cool thing to see the rats on your monitor while gaming, especially if you avoid horror or violent games in general as I do, but as gross as it seemed at first, as fast you will adapt to the game's requirements understanding that you have to learn living with your fear that sooner or later might become the most powerful weapon. Just like it happens in life, right?

Even though the whole action is mainly based on dark moments and very few times when you won't walk through the forest, a stormy night, or lighting the way with some torches, there are also some cinematics that would make you appreciate seeing light and colours more than you were doing before.

While from time to time you will get to meet some secondary characters too, the main ones remain Amicia, her little brother Hugo, and the negative character which you will discover pretty quick, already feeling a powerful desire to confront it and make the world a happy place as it used to be a while go.

As for what really means dark times no matter whether it's day or night outside, we are talking about a game that not only that it shares the cruel journey two siblings have to go through, but also a historic moment when a plague changed the whole existence of France's Kingdom in 1349.

Now, I'm sure that even if we have more or less details about what truly means to live during a plague is not close enough to what it feels like, the game shares some aspects that would make everyone understand better how a whole world might be changed in just a matter of time while you don't even know whom to ask for help or if you should help someone in turn.

Do you remember when the whole world has been hit by COVID and you were afraid even to meet your family and friends anymore, to go to your favourite shop for some food, or even just to take a walk outside your house? Well, this is just the 'first level' of what a plague means, the whole action being intensified by a bunch of soldiers that are devasting the villages trying to stop the whole madness by killing people.

As horror as everything already looks like, Amicia, a girl who was just 15 years old when the action starts, turns herself into a woman in no time, waking up with a stronger desire than ever to protect her 5 years old brother who represents her family now, but also to build their fate and strength together while facing all kind of challenges that will make the two struggle to survive.

That's where the adventure begins and innocence ends.

Conclusions πŸ€”

A Plague Tale: Innocence represents a mix between innocence and strength; between happiness and anger; between dark and light; but especially between family and everything you can do to keep it safe and far from any danger that we all might have already felt at least one time in our life.

Even if the whole atmosphere leans towards horror and dark moments with quite a few gore and violent sequences too, this is not the main genre of the game but only a way of sharing the situations the characters are needed to go through. Additionally, the soundtrack, cinematics and whole story, create a new presentation than originally seems like.

Also, the game offers one of the most excellent story games with a female protagonist in 2019, combining various elements of the gaming industry and emotional phases that led to nothing else but a highly recommended game to be played, everything being even encouraged by the over 10 awards received by now.

Did you play it? 😁

Now I'm sure this might go to a pretty particular section of gamers since Multiplayer games are the most played ones lately, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on this one even if you tried it out already or not.

If you did though, how much are you looking forward to seeing Requiem being released?

Same here! Even though I had some hesitation at the beginning, I'd happily play it again one day

I waited until the PS5 version came out and claimed it for free. I can't believe I slept on it for so long. I would have paid for a game of that quality had I known it would be that much fun.

That's so cool that you could claim it for free. I keep saying to myself that one day I should get a console too!

I really liked how you separate the story from the characters. I haven't tried it yet, but I have seen a lot of stuff about this game for quite some time now and have always wanted to play it because of how pretty it looks, maybe I will soon. The conclusion you gave about this game is pretty deep haha.

Haha, thanks for taking time to read and stop by!

I've heard about this game since it was released but it took me two years to add it in my library and play it, lol.

It's usually around 15€ during the sales, which in my opinion is the right price for it, but in the end it's worth any penny and all the time needed to complete it πŸ˜πŸ™Œ

I bought this but still have it in my library, waiting to be picked. I hear that the story is amazing! This also has a very good rating too!

Hell yeah! I've always thought that the soundtrack of a game is as important as the story and in this case I can guarantee you won't be disappointed!

I'm also surprised to see so many great ratings even after 3 years since it was released, but that's another confirmation how much is worth to be played πŸ’š

A Plague Tale is not very long but on The Witcher 3 I remember spending 85+ hrs to complete it xD

Yeah, it's a huge game as I've heard. Usually I'd put these ling games in the end and finish off the smaller ones but here we are.
