My opinion about the Sword Art Online anime [ENG-ESP]

Friends of The Anime Realm community and #hive in general, I hope you are all well, it really is a pleasure to share again my opinion about a new anime. This one is called Sword Art Online, also known as SAO. Before watching the anime and each of the seasons, I had a high expectation about it, my best friend recommended it to me and well I decided to watch it. In this review I'm going to tell you about my experience with the seasons I watched of the anime series, based on a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec, but actually what I'm going to talk about is the adaptation since I don't usually read manga.

The first season of SAO tells the story of Kirito, who is a player of the virtual reality video game named after the anime, Sword Art Online. In this game, players control avatars, where they must traverse a world called Aincrad. One day the players were told that they were trapped in the game and that those who died, would also die in real life, so they panicked and the only way out was to pass the game, go through each of the levels and face the bosses. This news was given by the creator of the game himself, Akihiko Kayaba. It is important to remember that these characters being in the game and using an avatar, no one knew their real identity, not even the name. Our protagonist is actually named Kazuto Kirigaya, known in the game VRMMORPG, as Kirito.

Kirito is a great character, really in the whole story is my favorite, a very good player in the game, he is even the best and the reason for that we can know in the anime. As every male protagonist, also has the female protagonist and this is Asuna, who is one of the few girls who play Sao, she is also a really good player, not in vain is the sub captain of the Knights of Blood guild, this being the strongest of the whole game. The game really has good characters, each one with a personal story, which some are told in the anime, but I also feel that they can go deeper in this aspect, but in this first season they just wanted to focus more on the main story which was that the players should try to pass the 100 levels to be able to be released in the game.

Amigos de la comunidad The Anime Realm y de #hive en general, espero que se encuentren todos bien, realmente es un placer volver a compartir mi opinión sobre un nuevo anime. Este se llama Sword Art Online, también conocido como SAO. Antes de ver el anime y cada una de las temporadas, tenía una alta expectativa sobre él, mi mejor amigo me lo recomendó y bueno decidí en verlo. En esta reseña les voy a comentar mi experiencia con las temporadas que vi de la serie animada, basada en una serie de novela ligera japonesa escrita por Reki Kawahara e ilustradas por Abec, pero en realidad de lo que les voy a hablar es de la adaptación ya que normalmente no suelo leer lo mangas.


La primera temporada de SAO nos cuenta la historia de Kirito, quien es un jugador del videojuego de realidad virtual llamada como el anime, Sword Art Online. En este juego, los jugadores controlar a los avatares, donde deben recorrer un mundo llamado Aincrad. Un día a los jugadores se les he anunciado que han quedado atrapado en el juego y que aquellos que murieran, también lo harían en la vida real, por lo cual entraron en pánico y la única forma de salir era poder pasar el juego, recorrer cada uno de los niveles y enfrentarse a los boss. Esta noticia fue dada por el propio creador del juego Akihiko Kayaba. Es importante recordar que a estos personajes estar en el juego y usar un avatar, nadie conocía su verdadera identidad, ni siquiera el nombre. Nuestro protagonista se llama realmente Kazuto Kirigaya, conocido en el juego VRMMORPG, como Kirito.


Kirito es un gran personaje, realmente en toda la historia es mí preferido, un jugador muy bueno en el juego, incluso es el mejor y la razón de ello la podemos conocer en el anime. Como todo protagonista masculino, también tiene la prota femenina y esta es Asuna, quien es una de las pocas chicas que juegan Sao, también es una jugadora realmente buena, que no en vano es la sub capitana del gremio Knights of Blood, siendo este el más fuerte de todo el juego. Realmente el juego tiene buenos personajes, cada uno con una historia personal, que algunas son contadas en el anime, pero también siento que se puede profundizar más en este aspecto, pero en esta primera temporada tan solo quisieron centrarse más en la historia principal que era que los jugadores debían tratar de pasar los 100 niveles para poder ser liberados en el juego.

Kirito was a specialist in using his swords, although we also see how he possesses other great abilities. Something that I really loved about the story of the first season is the fact that the animated series had a certain genre of mystery or suspense, we did not know the stories of the characters, even some of them kept secrets, but I also did not know whether or not to get attached to the characters, since some of them could die. I liked the plot of this first season, it was not perfect, it had some slow moments, with a lot of dialogues and less action, but when the fights started and we were advancing in the story, it became more and more interesting. This is an anime that covers many genres such as action, video games, adventure, science fiction, drama, fantasy and romance that can never be missing, since in most of the anime I have seen, most fall in love with the main character, in this case Kirito, and this anime series is no exception.

The story is centered in the years 2022, so it was expected that by this time the technology was as advanced as for this kind of games. Yes virtual reality has played an important role in recent years, but not at the level of the game, although to be honest I like games, but not of this type like SAO. Even so this first season fascinated me, both for the story, that while not perfect but there were many moments where I was hooked and wanted to keep watching more. Another thing I liked about the anime is the low level of filler, I can even say that there is none, although I have never read the literary story, nor the manga, so I can't tell you how was the adaptation.

The animation and soundtrack is another thing I liked about this anime. SAO has very well represented characters, but what I like the most are the animations in the battles and the effects shown when one of the characters use their abilities. The music is very well created, it is really a success, at this point my favorite anime is Naruto Shippuden, they have very emotional music and others for more nostalgic moments, although I feel that Sword Art Online is not at the same level (personal taste), but they are also pleasant at the time of seeing what was happening in the story.

Algo que realmente me encantó de la historia de la primera temporada es el hecho de que la serie animada tenía cierto género de misterio o suspenso, no conocíamos las historias de los personajes, incluso algunos de ellos guardaban secretos, pero tampoco sabía si encariñarme o no con los personajes, ya que algunos de ellos podían morir. La trama de esta primera temporada me gustó, no fue perfecta, tuvo momentos lentos, con muchos diálogos y menos acción, pero cuando empezaron las peleas y fuimos avanzando en la historia, se volvió cada vez más interesante. Este es un anime que abarca muchos géneros como acción, videojuegos, aventura, ciencia ficción, drama, fantasía y romance que nunca puede faltar, ya que en la mayoría de los animes que he visto, la mayoría se enamora del protagonista, en este caso Kirito, y esta serie de anime no es la excepción.


La historia se centra en los años 2022, por lo cual se esperaba que para estos tiempos la tecnología estuviera tan avanzado como para esta clase de juegos. Sí la realidad virtual ha jugado un papel importante en los últimos años, pero no al nivel del juego, aunque no ser sincero me gustan los juegos, pero no de este tipo como SAO. Aun así esta primera temporada me fascinó, tanto por la historia, que si bien no es perfecto pero había muchos momentos donde me enganchaba y quería seguir viendo más. Otra cosa que me gustó del anime es el bajo nivel de relleno, incluso puedo decir que no lo hay, aunque nunca me he leído la historia literario, ni el manga, así que no les puedo decir que tal fue la adaptación.


La animación y la banda sonora es otra de las cosas que me gustó de este anime. SAO tiene unos personajes muy bien representados, pero lo que más me gusta son las animaciones en las batallas y los efectos que se muestra cuando uno de los personajes usan sus habilidades. Las músicas están muy bien creadas, es realmente un acierto, en este punto mi anime favorito es Naruto Shippuden, tienen músicas muy emotivas y otras para momentos más nostálgico, que si bien siento que Sword Art Online no está al mismo nivel (gusto personal), pero sí que también son agradables al momento de ver lo que estaba sucediendo en la historia.

The main idea of this review was to talk about my opinion of the whole Sword Art Online anime saga, but to be honest, I really liked the first season, I thought it was good, with a lot of emotions and I wanted to continue watching more. The truth is that for the following seasons I didn't like it at all, the second one I fell asleep in almost every episode, yes I was tired because of the long day I had had but it is also true that it didn't capture my attention so much that I didn't lose interest. This is not to say that the second season was bad, personally I liked the first one better, the story took a turn that I didn't like. The animation and soundtrack if not great, it didn't lose its point.

Such was the disappointment in the second season that I decided not to watch the anime anymore, I was even told that the following ones were not good either. The first season had 25 chapters, it is a fairly long anime in seasons, with several arcs and story to tell. The second season had 24 chapters, one less than the first installment. Then other special anime installments came out, although not with many episodes and I guess with less success. If I had to give the anime a score, it would be 7, for the first season, which was quite correct.

La idea principal de este reseña era de poder hablarles sobre mi opinión de la toda la saga de Sword Art Online anime, pero para serles sincero, realmente me gustó la primera temporada, me pareció buena, de muchas emociones y con ganas de seguir viendo más. Lo cierto es que para las siguientes temporadas no me gustó para nada, la segunda me quedé dormido en casi todos los episodios, sí estaba cansado por el largo día que había tenido pero también es cierto que no capto mi atención tanto como para no perder el interés. No quiere decir que la segunda temporada haya sido mala, en lo personal me gustó más la primera, la historia dio un vuelco que no me agradó. La animación y la banda sonora sino que fueron geniales, no perdió su punto.


Tal fue la decepción que tuvo en la segunda temporada que decidí no ver más el anime, incluso me comentaron que las siguientes tampoco eran buenas. La primera temporada contó con 25 capítulos, es un anime bastante largo por temporadas, con varios arcos e historia que contar. La segunda temporada contó con 24 capítulos, uno menos que la primera entrega. Luego salieron otras entregas especiales de anime, aunque no con muchos episodios y supongo que con menos éxitos. Si tendría que ponerle un puntaje al anime sería de 7, por la primera temporada que sí estuvo bastante correcta.
