Mavericks Dallas champions of the NBA Western Conference. Opinion
But, living in the state of Texas is giving me many emotions in one of the activities I enjoy the most, sports. Within these there are two that I am passionate about: Baseball and basketball.
For those who do not follow sports in this geographical area let me tell you that the state of Texas can have at the same time the champions of the Baseball World Series and the Champions of the National Basketball Association (NBA) because, at this moment, the Texas Rangers are the current champions of the Major Leagues, while the Dallas Mavericks will try to win their second ring in history, when, starting June 6 they will face the Boston Celtic.
To reach the finals, they had to face one of this season's sensation franchises: the Minnesota Timberwolves, who pulled off the big surprise in the NBA playoffs by defeating the reigning NBA champions, Nikola Jokic's Denver Nuggets, in seven games.
Going back to the Western Conference Finals series, I must say that the Dallas team was superior all along the line with a lethal duo that commanded the team from end to end and gave no room to their opponents except in Game 4, when the series was practically decided.
In all honesty, the first games were close, but the experience and technical quality of the Mavericks players left their Minnesota rivals without many options. The third game was vital for the Timberwolves because they had to win and avoid being down 3-0, but they lost again. With this result and four games remaining, everyone knew that it was practically impossible for them to turn the score around.
Apparently, the tremendous effort they had to make in the semifinals took its toll. Despite being down and on the verge of death, they came out on top and won the fourth game. This raised their hopes, although, the task was titanic because never in the history of the NBA has any team been able to reverse a series that has been losing 0-3, best of 4 games.
Game 5 took place last night and from the first quarter it was clear what the outcome would be because the Dallas Mavericks came out to take down the Minnesota Timberwolves and they succeeded. In that game, the winners' lethal duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving shredded the opposing defense. These two players scored 72 of their team's 124 points, or 58.06% of the total points. In addition, they were strongholds in rebounds and assists to their teammates.
Overall, we can say that the Mavericks came out to demolish the Timberwolves and they succeeded. Simply put, the underdogs could not stop the Dallas duo, while their two star players, Karl Antonhy Towns and Anthony Edwards, and were not at the expected level. Another element to highlight was the good defense of the winners. If you look at the final score, it may be misleading, but, in reality, it was of superior dominance than what was seen at the end and it was largely due to the excellent defense of the Dallas team.
It should also be noted that the winning team had better field goal shooting and the players who came off the bench did their job and contributed significantly to the team's overall victory.
The Slovenian Luka Doncic's contribution to his team's victory was so important and decisive that he was selected as the Best Player of the Conference Finals.
On June 6, the final will begin, and beyond all the favorites, I hope it will be close and will go to the seventh game.
In a future post I will give my favorite for the ring.
