"It is Icicle, not Popsicle"

(Edited)

There are three things about winter that makes me wonder : the freshly fallen snow covering everything in its path; a frozen lake or river and icicles. Icicles ( for people like me who are not familiar with cold weather) are fascinating because of their stunning, but menacing beauty. Icicles are spiky ice formations that are formed when water dripping from an object freezes. Icicles resemble the stalactites and stalagmites found in some caves. Icicles are nothing but fascinating. In this post, I will show photos of some fantastic icicles I found in houses in my neighborhood.

As I have commented in previous posts, recent heavy snowfalls have turned Kent into a wintry landscape with snow and icicles. Lots of Kent homes have icicles hanging from the eaves.Icicles occur when the sun comes out and the snow melts on roofs, trees or other elevated surfaces.

The reason for the title of this post was that one day I misspoke: instead of saying icicle , I said popsicle. That was very embarrassing for me. I had never heard the word "icicle" before, and I did know "popsicle"; so one day this word slipped out. The title also applies to the dangers of eating icicle. Given the fact that the water icicles are made of may contain bacteria from bird feces and other pollutants found on roofs and gutters, eating icicles is not healthy at all.

Icicles are beautiful but dangerous. A falling icicle may lead to injuries and even death. People should avoid walking or standing still under a roof where icicles are present. I had to be very careful when I took these pictures. They can also cause damage to houses as they add a tremendous amount of extra weight to eaves and gutters.

And you? What do you think about this staple of Winter?
